Javiera “Javi” Kostner (she/her) is an Advanced Therapeutic Yoga teacher, Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapist & Guide, Breathwork Facilitator and Coach. Specializing in Trauma Recovery Yoga and Mindfulness-Based Somatic practices, and cannabis specialist, Javi is a Ganja Yoga training lead and steward. Her sessions are infused with cannabis, community, relaxing vibes, grounded spirituality, and a touch of Latino spice. Originally from Chile, Javiera is a bilingual cannabis guide, and group facilitator.
In 2019, Javi, along with her husband Seba, founded Green Magic Yoga. Their mission is to bring together mindfulness, psychedelic healing, and yoga to foster holistic wellness. Both trained by the Center for Medicinal Mindfulness, noe training leads for Psychedelic Guide Training, they lead monthly Conscious Cannabis circles in the Bay Area and online.

Jesse Daniel has been a well respected name within traditional country music fans for years. Known for his relentless work ethic, roaring live shows and true to life songwriting, he has earned his place among the heavy hitters of today’s industry. The California native is blazing the trail for a new wave of traditional artists, bringing his kind of country music to stages all over the world. With three full length studio records and a newly released live album, he continues to rival the greats of the genre with his level of creative output. There are many making traditional country music in modern times, but there is no one making it like Daniel; his sound is uniquely his own, while rooted in the tradition of his Bakersfield heroes like Merle Haggard and Buck Owens.His new single titled “Workin’ Hard (Day and Night)” is a tip of the hat to Merle and is prominently featured on Netflix as the theme music for comic Dusty Slay’s new comedy special “Workin’ Man”. Jesse and his band have an extensive US and European tour booked for 2024 and there is no telling where this new year may take him.

Paul Tashiro is the new owner and executive chef of Miyuki Japanese Restaurant, in Watsonville, California. Miyuki has been in business since 1982! Miyuki has generations of families that have been dining at Miyuki since 1982. Miyuki’s traditions, its legacy menu, and its entire staff will all remain the same!
In 2018, Paul retired from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office after 31 years of service. He is a local kid raised in Watsonville and currently resides in Las Vegas, NV. His retired journey started out learning how to be a sushi chef at Imura Japanese Restaurant in Watsonville.

Today on The Cannabis Connection Show, we welcome our second guest and installment into our local music showcase, Herb Daly.
HERB DALY, a longtime resident of the beautiful Santa Cruz area, has shared his lifelong love of Jamaican music for almost 5 decades. First visiting Jamaica in 1976, he ended up living there for the better part of a year, meeting and working with many of the island’s top artists and musicians, and laying guitar on a number of tracks in the main Kingston recording studios. Since then, he’s been an integral part of several seminal reggae ensembles such as the otherwise all-Jamaican Rastafarians, all while raising a family and serving his community. Realizing how crucial the bass is to the Jamaican sound, he switched from guitar to bass and has never looked back. Decades of working with Jamaican and West Indian musicians taught him to “come correct” with their music, and he has been passing on his knowledge and experience to the younger generations of aspiring reggae musicians.

Chris Bennett has been researching the historical role of cannabis in the spiritual life of humanity for more than a three decades. He is co-author of Green Gold the Tree of Life: Marijuana in Magic and Religion (1995); Sex, Drugs, Violence and the Bible (2001); and author of Cannabis and the Soma Solution (2010); Liber 420: Cannabis, Magickal herbs and the Occult (2018); and Cannabis: Lost Sacrament of the Ancient World (2023) . He has also contributed chapters on the the historical role of cannabis in spiritual practices in books such as The Pot Book (2010), Entheogens and the Development of Culture (2013), Seeking the Sacred with Psychoactive Substances (2014), One Toke Closer to God (2017), Cannabis and Spirituality (2016) and Psychedelics Reimagined (1999). Malcolm MacKinnon - Photojournalist & Former Editor-In-Chief High Times 8/25/23
Malcolm MacKinnon is a veteran photojournalist and writer. He is the
former editor-in-chief of HIGH TIMES magazine who used the pen name of “Dan Skye” during his tenure. He also served as executive editor of HEMP TIMES, a sister publication (1996-1999). During his 25-year career with HIGH TIMES (1991-2017), Malcolm shot over 50 covers and centerfolds and traveled over a million miles on assignments, becoming the most published writer and photographer in the magazine's history. He is widely considered to be one of the foremost cannabis photographers in the world. His work has been published in over 200 publications worldwide and he has interviewed and photographed a wide range of celebrities.

October. “Pot Shots: The Journey of a HIGH TIMES Photographer." It’s a history of the legalization movement with hundreds of still life photos, garden shots, model portraits, as well as photos of leaders in

Gabriel Reeves is an educator, writer and Chef who presently resides in the central coast of California. Currently he trains staff and creates strain reviews and website content for Canna Cruz and their family of brands. Under his own brand Green Gourmet CA, which he founded in 2011, Gabriel caters and does various consulting work. Over his 25+ years experience in the cannabis industry, Gabriel worked with WAMM, Elemental Wellness Center, Canna Cruz and many others. He has been featured in VICE Munchies, NPR's Radio Lab, NBC News Bay Area, San Francisco Magazine, High Times, Metro Silicon Valley and many others as an expert in the field of cannabis and Chef of infused and non infused cuisine. Having been a judge of multiple competitions including the US and Northern California High Times Cups, Emerald Cup and Santa Cruz Cup established his reputation among the small group qualified to critique cannabis at that level. Brandon Potter joins The Cannabis Connection to discuss his work breeding cannabis seeds and furthering our understanding about molds and fungi like botrytis. Brandon has always felt a conneciton with plants and the outdoors. This led him to persue a career in Biology, first earning a Bachelors of Science in Biology from UNC-Asheville and a Masters of the same from University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, with a stint as a research forestry technician with the U.S. Forest Service in between.
Since 2016, Brandon has lived in Cottage Grove, Oregon. During that time he has served as the lead breeding technician with New Breed Seeds. In 2022, Brandon also became a Certified Crop Advisor in the Pacific Northwest Region.

Prior to joining in February 2020, Aaron Keefer held a ten-year tenure as culinary gardener for the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group (TKG), which includes famed, three-Michelin Star restaurant, The French Laundry, in Napa, California. Keefer’s green thumb and passion for the land emerged as a young child in his grandfather’s farm in upstate New York. In the restaurant world Keefer built a reputation as one of the most respected gardeners in the industry. From the life of soil to pest management, microbial and fungal elements to the weather, he understands that gardening does not exist in a vacuum. The finest ingredients are produced in harmony with nature and the elements that it brings. Furthermore, Keefer cultivated legal and top-shelf medical cannabis flower that sold at premium dispensaries like The Apothecarium, Grass Roots, and Peace in Medicine (now SPARC) before 2018 under Proposition 215 guidelines. Before developing his passion for culinary gardening, Keefer honed his culinary skills under notable Bay Area Chefs Michael Chiarello and Julian Serrano and subsequently became the Executive Chef at Marin Country Club, where he was later promoted as its Food and Beverage Director. He is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.
Jahan Khamsehzadeh PhD - The Psilocybin Connection 09/23/2022
Jahan Khamsehzadeh, Ph.D. completed his dissertation on psychedelics at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco. His book, The Psilocybin Connection: Psychedelics, the Transformation of Consciousness, and Evolution of the Planet—An Integral Approach was published by North Atlantic Books and distributed Spring 2022 by Penguin Random House. He earned his Masters in Consciousness and Transformative Studies from John F. Kennedy University, and his Bachelors from the University of Arizona with a major in Philosophy and minors in Physics, Psychology, and Mathematics. Aside from academic work, he has undergone several major trainings, including graduating from the Hakomi somatic-psychotherapy program and training within the Mazatec mushroom tradition. He assisted the Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Certificate training at CIIS for two years, and mentored at the School of Consciousness Medicine. He is an advisors for the Synthesis Guide Training Program and the PsiloHealth peer support training program. Jahan works as a facilitator for legal psilocybin mushrooms ceremonies in Jamaica with Atman Retreats.

Michael Backes is best known as the author of the book titled, Cannabis Pharmacy and opening the first science based dispensary in Southern California called Cornerstone Wellness in 2005. Michael is a respected pioneer in the cannabis industry and dubbed the "Morpheus" of cannabis after being convinced that the cannabis plant could be a legitimate medicine, because it helped him deal with migraines that had plagued him since childhood. Michael has helped patients find relief through cannabis since increasing his understanding of cannabis as medicine and providing better quality of life. Michael co-founded the cannabis company called Perfect Blends which designs blended formulations using 100% cannabis and cannabis oil, combined with breakthrough terpene preservation methods that result in dialed in effects, extended shelf life, product consistency and low dose, functional products. Most recently, Michael was tapped by the Emerald Cup to optimize and reinvent the Terpene Categorization system for competition entries and spearheaded the advisory board leading the reclassification for the world renowned Emerald Cup Competition.
