This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 2009 action film, Fast & Furious.
Thomas swaps democracy sausages for Fish & Chips, and once again walks to earn it. Colin gets trapped in a MTB/Walker disputed territory.
Colin apologises profusely for not registering The Deranged Cat Studio as a No-Fly Zone during the recording, and not pausing the recording as the Boeing 777-9 flew overhead during Thomas' reading of N₂Osferatu's (Hi, N₂Osferatu!) story.

Bullet Train Explosion
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 2025 Japanese action thriller film, Shinkansen Daibakuha, or Bullet Train Explosion.
Thomas suffers catastrophic bipodal failure, but not before scoring himself a democracy sausage. He namedrops a heap of non-existent TV shows. Colin has a faceoff with a denizen of the deep. Or shallows.

This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 2020 American superhero film, The Old Guard.
Thomas finishes two sets of Blueprints. Colin misremembers: The "Bad Guy" in the Famous Five was NOT a Harry Potter Alumni, but a Game of Thrones Alumni! He is also most apologetic for not formally greeting e of pi.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 1948 American neo-western film, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
Colin gets a bit quirky. Thomas gets wrapped up in Blueprints and Explainers. He also completely misses what is arguably Australia's most recognised bird.
The number 1.37:1 refers to the Academy ratio (not "Cinema Ratio", as Colin foolishly calls it), a standard aspect ratio for film that was widely used from the 1930s to the 1950s.

The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 2006 action film, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
Thomas gets lost in the Northern Suburbs. Colin discovers muscles he never knew he had, and the pair may or may not have had cake - for extra-special reasons they totally fail to disclose! Colin loses his left kidney.
According to movie-locations.com, "Apart from scene-setting, though, most of the film was shot around LA. The vast garage with the spiral ramp, where Sean gets to meet all the kids, is Hawthorne Plaza Mall, Hawthorne Boulevard at 120th Street, Hawthorne, to the south of Los Angeles (those nighttime views over ‘Tokyo’ from the garage roof were added digitally)." https://movie-locations.com/movies/f/Fast-And-The-Furious-Tokyo-Drift.php
Looking at google maps, the carpark of the mall - abandoned since 1999 - is only four levels high, so although the scene WAS all filmed here (not two different carparks) there was some "playing" with carpark heights! https://maps.app.goo.gl/TkbXzhMroDMhDuc16

Thomas buys socks, and Colin misnames the ball of the foot, because he ain't got no sole. Colin also realises that he'd missed a comment on last weeks episode: Sorry ★Katelyn★!
Even though it received negative reviews from critics, Jumper was a box office success making $225M WW on an $85M budget.

The term "closed captions" indicates that the captions are not visible until activated by the viewer, usually via the remote control or menu option. On the other hand, the terms open, burned-in, baked on, hard-coded, or simply hard indicate that the captions are visible to all viewers as they are embedded in the video. It should also be noted that Subtitles are a form of captioning used to translate the audio dialogue from one language into another. Simply put, subtitles translate a video's language into another. On the other hand, Closed Captions are in the same language as the original audio.

Thomas finds something funny on the internet; it's a Paradox... Paradox. He alienates the Joe Rogan fanpersons. Colin performs surgery.
Colin would like to point out that, although old and decrepit, he never personally experienced smoking in cinemas; that was banned in Australia in 1935(!) for fire safety reasons. He also notes that it is "angostura", not "agnostura" (a mixer for those who believe nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God.) "French utility EDF on Tuesday again pushed back the start date on its long-delayed 3.2-gigawatt (GW) Hinkley Point C reactor plant in Britain to at least 2029, with a new estimated cost of between 31 billion and 34 billion pounds ($43 billion) based on 2015 values.
"The project in southwest England, Britain's first new nuclear plant in more than two decades, was at the last update expected to start operations in June 2027, with an estimated cost of 25-26 billion pounds, which also was a revision of a previous 2025 start date at a cost then estimated at 18 billion pounds. EDF had initially said it would be powering British homes in 2017.
"Other similar new-build nuclear projects in Flamanville, France, and Olkiluoto, Finland have been delayed and faced big increases in costs."

The Verdict (1946)
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 1946 American film noir mystery drama film, The Verdict.
Thomas does Art. Colin notes that "This isn't a Science Podcast."
Sydney Greenstreet was born in 1879. The Silent Motion Picture Era is generally recognized as being between 1894 to 1929. The Jazz Singer (1927) is recognised as the first "talking" motion picture, and within only a few years "talkies" were the default. So Sydney Greenstreet, at 62, waited 14 years after Talkies kicked off before acting on film in The Maltese Falcon (1941, so FIVE years prior to the Verdict). The great silent film actor, producer and director Charlie Chaplin was the big Talkie hold out; he didn't make a talking film until The Great Dictator (1940).
It seems that my hunch was right; Peter Lorre (born László Löwenstein) is, indeed, pronounced "Peter Lorre".

Battle for the Planet of the Apes
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 1973 American science fiction film, Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
Thomas expresses his delight in cost-overruns even before any planning applications for a certain building are drawn up. Colin Has a treat for Thomas!
(Reddit Opinions: "if someone asked me to describe it I wouldn't know what to say. I just don't know what it tastes like it's like water to me I'm so used to it Idk what it tastes of.", "tastes kinda like rust and battery acid and it's magic.", "A bubbling highland stream mixed with casual violence. But in a good way.", "Orange. Not the fruit, the colour. And sugar.", "It tastes of unicorn blood, thistle juice, and the sweet, sweet tears of the English women mourning their dead at Stirling Bridge.")
"It" finally appeared while we watched the film. It was glorious!

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 1972 American science fiction film, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
Thomas plots how to defend his honour. Colin has the gall to unreservedly apologise from the bottom of his gallbladder. He also continues to infuriatingly say "aspecially" instead of "especially"! Why!?! He KNOWS it's "Especially"! Thomas "Went there!" (Truth be told, if you listen back, so did Colin!)
Most commonly one renal artery will supply the right kidney and another separate renal artery will supply the left kidney. Accessory renal arteries are a common variant of the renal arteries. They are present in ~25% (range 20-30%) of the population and bilateral in ~10%. Triple renal arteries are seen in ~2.5% (range 1-4%) of the population. Colin has TWO arteries going to one kidney, and THREE going to the other. He's a FREAK!

Paralympic Sailing debuted at Atlanta in 1996 as a demonstration sport, then gained full status in Sydney 2000. The IPC announced the omission of sailing from Tokyo 2020, due to lack of global participation. World Sailing campaigned for reinstatement for LA28 (thus no Paris), but the IPC announced it would not be reinstated for LA. Parasports for Brisbane32 have yet to be announced.

Reign of Fire

Escape From the Planet of the Apes
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 1971 American science fiction film, Escape from the Planet of the Apes.
Thomas has problems with his mobility! Colin likes to keep a cap on things, but for a time is disastrously unable to do so! Is that clickbait-y enough for you? Colin and Thomas bemoan the ever-rapid death of local children's television production.
It was in 1985 that the hyphen was permanently deleted from the brand name 20th Century-Fox, changing to 20th Century Fox. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20th_Century_Studios#Marvin_Davis_and_Rupert_Murdoch )
Side note factoid: Production of Escape From the Planet of the Apes was rushed due to the low budget ($2 million), being filmed in only six weeks, from November 30, 1970 to January 19, 1971. The film went on to well and truly recoup its cost, making $12.3 million at the box office!

United Kingdom's version of Dr Pepper, along with various other countries, is manufactured with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup (much like Heritage Dr Pepper in the United States). In August 2014, the UK version was reformulated, adding the artificial sweeteners Aspartame and Acesulfame K, which reduces the amount of sugar from 10.3 g per 100 ml to 7.2 g. In 2018, due to the Sugary drink tax implanted in the UK, the sugar was reduced to 4.9 g.

The Iron Giant
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 1999 American animated science fiction film, The Iron Giant .
*This week's episode is dedicated to Nathan, and Brother of Nathan.*
Thomas has Olympic Artistic Commentary Befuddlement Syndrome (OACBS). Colin utterly refuses to talk politics, other than DSG stands for Department of State Growth. He also fails to notice the parallels between the influence of John Carter, and the influence The Giver.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes
This week, Thomas and Colin watch the 1970 American science fiction film, Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
Thomas can barely contain his vocal acclamation. Colin sees it through a different, second-hand lens.
It seems that, with 20th Century Fox on the verge of bankruptcy at the time, Beneath the Planet of the Apes only had half the budget of the first film.

Thomas is lacking a peel. (A peel is a tool used by bakers to slide loaves of bread, pizzas, pastries, and other baked goods into and out of an oven. It is usually made of wood, with a flat surface for carrying the baked good and a handle extending from one side of that surface.)
Colin made a blog post: https://inspokennotoutspoken.blogspot.com/2024/06/i-had-whole-area-to-myself.html
