Monday I don't Fear You
This week I am sharing with you my journey on how I learned to master my time and look forward to Monday Mornings as a key starting point in my weeks towards achieving my goals. It all starts with defining what you want to achieve and be clear about your individual ambition. Work by quarters: what are your top 3 priorities? Those three priorities become then your compass for keeping track where you are going and if you are staying committed towards your goals. What do you need to do for those three priorities to be completed in the given time? How can you increase your odds to succeed? How do you let math support you and don't allow the drama tot take over. Tune in and listen to this week's episode about time mastering! The Power of Visualization
Look around you: everything that you see was first just an idea. If you believe in the sentence seeing is believing, let me challenge you on inverting the sentence: BELIEVING IS SEEING. Yes because you first need to imagine something, a goal, a destination, an objective, before you can actually commit to reaching it. This week I talk about this amazing tool we all have in our arsenal which is visualisation of a goal. Tune in and find out how it works, the science behind it and how to apply it in practice.  And then take action: apply it straight away so you can see this powerful tool in action for you. Grow Your Influence: Hard & Soft Tactics
So many people strive to be more influential and wish their opinions was more heard and considered. But is there a myth about influence? Are we not overcomplicating it? In this week's episode I deconstruct influence in different tactics and I am sure you will be positively surprised of actually how much influence you are already exercising.  Start where you are: understand what is already working and clearly define which areas (tactics) you feel you would like to try and practice more to become better at it. From intent to Impact
How often do we find ourself confused by how our actions have impacted others and the only thing we can say is... "I did not intend this to happen! " This week, I discuss how you can be more effective translating your actual intent into the impact you meant to start with, and avoid any misunderstanding or avoidable hurt feelings on the way. Why Sleep Drives Performance
Why do we sleep? And do we need to sleep for 7-9 hours to be fully functional?  When doing my research for last week's episode, I got so interested in sleep and I finally decided to answer my own question around why is sleep important and why it affects my mood and energy so much. I am adventuring myself into territories of neuroscience and talk about hormones and neurotransmitters as a non-scientist (OBS: I am a statistician by education) but some of these terms are so recurring that I think among non-scientist we can get a grip on them in a way that it is useful. Tune in and find out more about  why we sleep   what happens during our sleep   how we regulate the day & time rhythm naturally how sleep affects business performance. Your Brain Is Your Asset
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about company assets is not usually people. And this week I would like to stress the importance of People as a company assets and then, for individuals highlight how our brain is our most important asset. If you agree with me on this point then you will naturally follow my train of thoughts around questioning how much we spend and invest in our brain power to maintain its capacity and maximise the output from this asset. Yes we do that very much in the first 20 years of our life, but what happens then? In this episode I also explain (in very simple terms!) the difference between two parts of our brain, to help you become more aware of your thinking patterns and provide you with insights and inspiration to leverage that amazing asset you have: your own brain! The Performance Formula
How often do you hear people at work saying "This person is not good." "He/she is a poor performer." The trouble I have with sentences like these is that they don't leave much room to change and new possibilities. Already by changing the sentence to something like... "This person is not performing very well in the current circumstances." you will notice immediately how it gives hope to change and opens up to a lot of possibilities. In this episode, I introduce this formula Performance = Potential - Interference And I go through the three elements of the formula one by one. Because I know that the potential of all of us, in the different roles we have in our life, is enormous, but that there are thoughts, habits and attitudes, as well as skillset that affects and reduce the potential impact we could have in the world. So listen in as I unfold these concepts and inspire you to greater and deeper awareness. Links at www.chiaracovone.com/ep58 Access my free Masterclass to stop procrastinating here.

Your Identity
What makes your or my identity? What aspects are there that define our identity? As leaders, being explicit about how different aspects of our identities and lived experiences have informed who we are, what we value, helps us understand how we perceive situations and how we interact with other people.  Spending time in understanding our own identity also means reflecting on our place in the world, in society, and in organisations.  To truly get to a deep understanding of who we are, we want to examine those aspects of ourselves that are part of our "normal" as they might be the result of the dominant culture we live in or grew up in. Join me in this week's podcast where I discuss the importance and value of increasing curiosity towards our own identity as a way to live more intentionally and with greater mindfulness in all aspects of our life. Humbleness vs Bragging
Humbleness is noble but can damage your visibility and - in the long run - also your motivation.  Bragging is also not recommended since people that brag are seen as inconsiderate and not believed to be better performers than their humble colleagues.  How do we strike a balance between those two behaviors?  I discuss what you can consider and reflect upon in this week’s episode. Assertiveness
Asking for what we 'need', asserting our desires can feel incredibly difficult, at times. Growth Matters
I want you to ask yourselves, “why should I grow?" "Why should I go to the next step and do the next thing and pursue the next goal?" " Why should I even bother trying to become self-actualized, or fulfill my potential, or learn something new?" " Why should I even listen to my own desires when I can just settle in here, and be comfortable?”  In this episode I discuss the reason and try to convince (if needed being) why growth matters.  And if it resonates, I want to encourage you to not take a little step today toward self-growth, to take a huge step, to stop comforting yourself with false pleasures, and to put a line in the sand and make a decision to grow. It matters. I know it does. Access my free masterclass here. And for more resources and to leave a comment go to www.chiaracovone.com/podcast/ep54

Impostor Syndrome
Do you find yourself feeling out of place in a meeting or even in a relationship and doubting your skills you’re right to sit at the table?  If you’re suffering of imposter syndrome you are letting self doubts and self criticism influence you. Despite external evidence of your achievements, those experiencing these thoughts remain convinced that they do not deserve everything that they have achieved and in fact it can go so far as they self-sabotage their success. But impostor syndrome has also its positive sides. Balance and self-awareness are step #1 for us to master our mind and use it to the best of our ability. Confidence in Self
Everybody seems to wanting to be self-confident.  And yet, so many people are not actively working towards its attainment. Self-confidence is not something we are born with. When we try new things but we know how to handle our own mind and the emotions that our thoughts will provoke - that's when self-confidence supports our ambitions. Self-confidence is about knowing that things won't always go the way we thought, and being fine about it. Having our own back, not make it mean more than what it is: an attempt where we have an opportunity to learn. If you are somebody who is insecure and has low self-esteem and a low opinion of yourself, and also high demands from yourself, I want to tell you that the only thing you have to do to generate self-confidence is practice feeling your emotions. Leaning into those feelings of discomfort, fear, and desire to run away when the turn up, and be curious about them.  Because they are just emotions.  And you can handle any emotion.  Access my free Masterclass "Stop Procrastinating. Achieve Massive Results" at https://www.covone.se/Goal.

Your Zone of Genius
What work do you do that doesn’t seem like work? In your work, what produces the highest ratio of abundance and satisfaction to the amount of time spent? What is your unique ability? Gay Hendricks' book 'The Big Leap' clearly made an impression on me. I love how he talks about the 4 zones and how committing to staying in our zone of Genius can be beneficial for our growth and for the world. Tune into this week's episode as I summarize the concept of our Upper Limit and distill the 4 zones of:  Incompetence Competence  Excellence Genius Ultimately, it’s about identifying what comes most naturally to you, and then capitalizing on that, rather than identifying what has come naturally to other people, and trying to teach yourself those skills in order to mimic and recreate their genius. You can absolutely be successful in the zone of excellence. But to take your life to the next level, you cannot keep playing by other people’s rules. Your Executive Presence
Executive Presence is what you tell the world, what you signal to the world and is the result of three distinctive factors:  1. Your gravitas. In Latin gravis means ‘serious’. It is about your seriousness. Your dignity. Your gravitas is about how well you know your stuff. Cold. Do you know your stuff three questions deep? This is about your expertise. 2. Your Communication skills. Your style. Can you get your message across? Do you know how you be heard? No matter how profound your gravitas, if you can’t get your message across, it is going to be very difficult. 3. Your presence - how you dress how you stand. If that is not right it will stay in the way for your gravitas to shine. I know for some of you the above list might feel daunting so I wanted to give you a very easy tip to increase your executive presence and convince you why this small detail can make such a huge difference. Slowing Down. Tune in to listen to the full episode and reflect with me on how you can increase your executive presence to have the highest chances of being heard and be the leader your world needs. In this week’s episode I talk about 6 types of outcome that I believe are good reasons to have meetings. I have spoken about journaling before on this podcast and I a big supporter of this daily activity because that was the first activity I have introduced in my life when I started my journey to regain power and self-confidence in myself. Reacting vs. responding
Reactions are done on impulse, without putting much thought into it or considering what the end result may be. A reaction is a reverse movement or tendency, or an action in a reverse direction or manner.  Responding can be defined as saying something in reply. Response is more thoughtful and done with reasoning.  Many times, depending on the situation, we can go into ‘fight or flight’ mode. This is an acute stress response that can lead to over-reaction.  As leaders, knowing the difference between reacting and responding can be a great deal as it can have a huge impact on how you show up in your world.  Reacting is fuelled by our emotions. And I know it might seem that the circumstances are causing you to feel a certain way which leads to a reaction, but there is actually a thought between what you observe, and how you feel about your thought. Often that thought is so fast that we are not really aware of it: it is automatic and driven by memory of your brain related to similar experiences that you have already accumulated and so  your subconscious thinks on your behalf and the result is an emotion that provokes you to react in a certain way.  But we can decide instead to respond, to be more intentional and focus more on the question 'who do I want to be?' and 'which result do I want to have?' Tune in to explore how we can show up as our ideal us in this world by rehearsing our future. Full show notes and links at www.chiaracovone.com/39

When Judgement Holds Us Back
What is judgement? It is evaluating something and deciding what to think about it. It is about deciding if what we see/hear/experience is good or bad, whether we like it or not. Essentially, it is having an opinion about someone or something. And we all love have opinions, don't we? Our brain loves to judge because it helps us quickly evaluate and categorize the world.  But when is judgement not serving us? What about those situations (and there are many of them) where we just judge ourselves or others automatically without paying attention?  Tune into this episode to reflect with me about the role of judgement as survival mechanism and how we can be more deliberate and intentional about how we use it in our everyday life. The Power of Intuition
In many cultures, we are tought to believe that rationality is what we should tap into when we are making decisions about anything that is of high importance: like business decision, but even when it comes to choose what to eat for lunch.  But what about that "inner voice," that gut feeling, that little something instinctual from within that tells us how we feel beneath those thick layers of logic? When we make space for intuition, when we stop the chattering of the rational mind, this is when we get our intuition back.  The rational mind doesn’t nourish you. You assume that it gives you the truth just because the rational mind is the golden calf that our culture worships doesn’t make it true. Rationality squeezes out much that is rich and juicy and fascinating. Access full show notes with links and other resources at chiaracovone.com/37

Other People’s Approval
In this week's episode we’re talking about people pleasing and seeking other people‘s approval.  This is a very natural behavior and it comes from our instinct for survival: being part of a group increased our chances of survival back in the days. Today this behavior often goes at the expenses of us showing up with our own creativity, with our full potential, and letting our own self down for the fear of feeling rejected. Tune in into today's episode where I talk about what is behind this natural behavior and how we can free ourselves from it with awareness and understanding. Stop Multitasking
Stop multitasking.  There is no real way to multitask.  We can’t do two things at once, so multitasking really means we keep shifting from one activity to the other. And what this doesn’t take into account is how long it takes us every time to go back to the activity number one.  We are much better working on one thing at a time until completion and then, only then, start the new activity.  Join me in this weeks' episode where I debunk the myth of multitasking and explain you why I know that multitasking is inefficient and how and what to do instead.  Full show notes at www.Chiaracovone.com/35

Motivation vs Inspiration
Adrienne Duffy said it beautifully:  “Motivation requires some things from the outside to activate you.  Inspiration is an internal energy that keeps you continually fueled”. Exploring the difference between those two terms really got me thinking. Many times, people might mix them up and believe they mean the same thing. And I am here to guide you through distinguishing between them: one comes from the inside and one from the outside.  Isn't it powerful? In this episode, I am going through both motivational leadership and what it entails, as well as inspirational leadership. And how, in fact, we want both to be present. I am also talking about movivation vs. inspiration at a personal level. Knowing where we stand when we set goals and activities for ourselves and tuning into our thoughts, beliefs and feelings and be clear if we are driven by inspiration or by motivation.  Motivation, meaning driven by an external force or reason is powerful but the risk is that it runs out of fuel. Inspiration, coming from a place of abundance and passion, and joy have, in my world, a bigger impact vs. willpower... I am curious to hear your take on these two terms. Come and leave me a comment here.

The Power of Rituals
We determine whether the day will be a good or a bad one. We choose whether everything is good or bad. Our attitude for success and optimism in all situations is what we carry around with us throughout the day. By being aware of how we feel, we can create a reality in which every situation, no matter what it is, provides us with an opportunity we can act on, if I only we look for it. In a world where so much is out of our control, committing to a practice where we do have control is a way of establishing and reminding ourselves of our own power. It is about preparation. It was about creating peace. Tune into this episode as I discuss how I created a routine that works for me for mornings and evenings. How it evolved over time and how there is no magic formula that works for everyone and that you can find the activities that serve YOU. Download my morning routine resource here.

Compelling Reason
As we start the new year with all the good intentions and new year's resolutions, I thought I would do an episode where I discuss what makes us follow through vs giving up on our intentions. All our goals and dreams start with a desire, a want. But that desire on its own is not enough for us to be prepared to stay focused on our goals. The second element that we need to stay on track is the belief. The belief in ourselves. The belief that we can handle any emotions that will overwhelm us at the first difficulty.  And to create and nurture that belief what we need is to be committed to our goals and ourselves. Have our own back when things get difficult, when people and situations and other options try to distract us from our goal. Commitment exists when we have a compelling reason, a deep why connected to the goal. So this is where we want to be honest with ourselves and spend time looking inside ourselves and find our reason to want what we want.  Because if that compelling reason is not strong, then there is good chances that we won't be staying focused on our goals. You don't have a strong why? great, then don't set that goal. I believe it is worse in the relationship with ourselves, to set a goal and give up, rather than being honest at the get-go and just say "actually, I don't want that so badly". And that is ok. Emotional balance
Life is 50:50. We are happy half of the time and we are feeling negative emotions half of the time.  Believe me: it took me quite some time to accept it, and stop fighting my negative emotions. I grew up with the believe that I was always supposed to be happy and look for happiness.  And now I am finally at peace with the reality that of course we want to be happy, but that it is also ok to feel negative emotions and enjoy the full experience as humans. In this episode I discuss the three types of emotions I identify: 1. The desired emotions - the ones we choose because we want to have balance as humans. What are the feelings you want to experience in the world? You’re coming in as a human— what emotions do you want to have in your repertoire to be able to have the full human experience?  2. The unwanted emotions - they are a fundamental part of the human experience; they don't feel good but we allow them and stop fighting them since we understand that they are caused by our thoughts and that they are part of the 50% of the life that does not feel great but these feelings are also often at the birth of great things we achieve in our lives. We allow them because we understand that they represent a way for our body to communicate with us. 3. The indulgent emotions - these emotions are the ones that don't serve us at all. And we want to replace them. We don’t want to resist them, but we want to stop indulging in them. You get to choose how to feel all of the time by choosing which thought you want to entertain and give space to. The world doesn’t cause you to feel anything by itself; it is the way you think about circumstances that causes you to feel a certain emotion; and you are in control of your mind.  So when you feel negatively, and if you want to feel better, go to the root cause (thoughts) of your negative emotion and decide deliberately if that thought serves you or if, instead, you want to entertain an alternative thought about the same circumstance.  Becoming emotionally aware is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. This is my gift to you and I trust that you will give it some 'thought'. Leave me a comment at www.chiaracovone.com/30

From Obstacles to Strategies
People that are successful in achieving their goals are the people that are willing to feel negative emotions, that are willing to walk into discouragement, into vulnerability, walk into fear.  They are the people that keep moving and that resist the temptation to quit.  Most people wish the obstacles to quickly go away and the greatest breakthrough people make in life actually comes when you are faced with an obstacle: then you have to become more creative and you leverage your courage to develop some higher capabilities. Tune in as i discuss the importance of obstacles for our growth and how the tension between the goal and the obstacles is the fuel to bigger and more important achievements: who you get to become in the process of evolving. links and full show notes at www.chiaracovone.com/29

How to disagree with someone
Can you have a conversation with a colleague / a friend / family member, and completely disagree with them without getting mad?  Do you feel like you need to make the other person agree with you or else you totally disconnect from them?  Most of us are not great at disagreeing with others and staying calm.  We look at some conversations as a competition you want to win.  One of the things I’ve learned from coaching people is that my ideas are not meant for other people, they are meant for me.  Disagreeing is an art, and I will share my suggestions for how to use disagreement as a way to connect instead of disconnecting, and to gain a better understanding of other people in the world in general. Awareness of Your Emotions
This week I’m starting a series about emotional intelligence and in this episode I introduce the importance of understanding and allowing our emotions and feelings. Emotional intelligence is not something I have been taught in school. And I understand how important it is and how little we are still talking about it. Every single thing we do in our lives is because of how we think it will make us feel. Every single thing we don't do in our lives is because of how we think it will make us feel. Isn't it fascinating? The emotions I am talking about here are the ones that are created by your thoughts: They start in the brain and create a sensation in your body. An uncomfortable feeling in your stomach, the loss of appetite, a sleepless night, ... this is the way your brain is communicating with you and when you are in touch with these feelings and listen to them, we can increase our agency over our actions. Tune in to listen as I discuss why understanding and making space for our emotions matters and how to allow emotions and practice the skill of emotion. Find Your 'How'
Do you catch yourself saying ‘I would love to, but I don’t know how’ and wishing to get a step-by-step, guaranteed-success process from some gurus or expert out there, to solve your problems or make your business work?  Trying to look for the answers outside of us is a sneaky way of avoiding the need to take responsibility if it doesn’t work. And it makes us feel like  we can skip over all the negative emotions that are part of the journey: Fear Embarrassment  Confusion  and all the rest. I have been there myself too, my friend. And I learned through coaching and consciousness how I was playing small and avoiding embracing discomfort and hard work to find my own how. I love 'Steve Jobs' quote that says 'you can only connect the dots when looking backwards'. In this episode, I’m diving deep into the concept of the importance of taking responsibility for your own success. If you determine your own 'how' you are building a skill that will serve you in all aspects of your life. If you want to be a real leader, you have to go through the trial and error path of trying out things, see if they work and scale them up; or go back pivot them and do something else instead. Until you find your unique how.  Sure you can get inspired by others and we don't need to reinvent the wheel every time. But if you are after something bigger and more meaningful, then there is a good chance that nobody else has done it before you yet.  The skill you will develop will serve you in every area of your life.  Tune in and listen to this episode as I cover: How asking for concrete directions can transfer the responsibility for your success to someone else. Why you should want the responsibility of figuring out how to do something. Why you have to accept responsibility for finding your how and accept that failure is part of the process. The four steps for discovering your own how. chiaracovone.com/22

Micro-Management & Under-Management
What is micromanagement and what is under-management (or even called abdication management)? Micromanagement is too much direction and feedback for a person about the task at a specific time.  Abdication managers know very little about what their direct reports are working on and defend their approach but proudly using words like trust, autonomy and empowerment. Finding the right balance is not that obvious. For every micromanager, data shows that organisations have dozens of under-management and the fear of being labelled as micro-manager has something to do with it. Abdication management can result in lack of guidance, delays in recognising problems, stalled professional development of key people, and anxiety among employees.  What are the most effective managers doing differently and/or what did you do differently when you were most effective? There is no need to make it complicated. In fact, it would be enough to go back to the basics of people management. Simple does not mean that it is easy and discipline and consistency will be the key factors. Because you can only find the right balance in the long term, where your people know what to expect from you and you are consistently providing feedback and rewarding success. Embracing Fear For Growth
Fear is an emotion that is responsible for most of the things we DON'T do in our lives. Back in the day, fear helped us stay safe and alive, and helped us evolve.  However, in today’s society, there are only few things we generally need to be afraid of, and fear often holds us back and prevents us from taking action and achieve our goals. And grow as human being. Feeling fear is totally human but we don't need to accept the default response of our brain every time we do experience fear, which is escape, withdraw or running away. I would like to offer for you to start listening to your emotions and understand. Be curious about what you are afraid of and ask yourself what thoughts are causing you to feel fear.  If you are not experiencing any fear in your life at the moment, it probably means that you are not challenging yourself enough. I would like to challenge you to find things that will make you uncomfortable and let fear come in, so you can train to be courageous to move towards fear and come out on the other side more courageous and more evolved than you were before. Tune in and join me as I discuss this fascinating topic. Full show notes and links to relevant sources at www.chiaracovone.com/19

Purpose Is Your Fuel
Purpose can turn up in different parts of your life.  You will have a moment, an epiphany, something dramatic that happens and all of the energy inside you wells up.  It is when you want to make an impact, make a difference somewhere... that is the birth of purpose. This week I wanted to share my thoughts around purpose - I know everybody is talking it and the reason why is that it is crucial. No organisation gets a pass on 'purpose'. And there is an opportunity for you as an individual to also decide what you want your contribution to be in this world and how you can make live your full potential. Look at your job: what is the bottom-line purpose of your job? What is the contribution of your work to meet the needs in your organisation? The most important contribution you can make in your work is not the work you do, but the person you are becoming. Because when you become the right person of course you will be dedicated: of course you will make a contribution. The more you evolve as a person, the better the quality of the fruit you will produce. And to do your best job you not only need a purpose, but you also need to understand the balance between rest and work, so you can stay in the game for the long haul. Do dates and calendar blocks
Naturally, we have an inborn resistance to deliberately manage our time. We believe that spontaneity, and being able to react and not have plans somehow creates a more free life. This couldn’t be farther from the truth! In fact, the opposite is true: The more you plan, the freer you will be. In the previous episode, in my conversation with Allan Langen, I’ve talked about “time blocks and how to deal with your to-do list and outcomes. This week, I want to go into greater detail around the concept and tools I use, so you can test them and apply them to your own life too. I’ve been using this approach now so regularly, to a point where they’ve become automatic for me and created a high level of productivity in my life.  Today, I decided to share with you this method to make sure that you know how to utilise those “Do Dates” to achieve your success. “To-do actions" are not simply concepts that we have in our minds that we would like to accomplish. They are the actual tasks we need to complete in order to achieve our goals. In other words, they are the structured way of taking action until you achieve your results. Listen in as I lay out the step-by-step process of listing your to-dos, decide your priority and get your reward at the end of the week!  On this episode, I explore a number of tools and techniques that will help you create more time in your daily life. From the importance of honouring our commitments to ourselves and saying “no” to multitasking, 'trying', and distractions, I cover everything you need to know to make time for the things that matter most. I explain why saying "I don't know how long will it take" is the wrong way of looking at the problem. And what to do instead. Conversation with Allan Langer
Allan and I met virtually in a very active and vibrant LinkedIn Group and I reached out to him since I noticed he was a fellow podcaster as well as had a really interesting background in Sales Thought Leadership. So we quickly decided we would get together and record a conversation that would inspire both mine and his audience. The result is a great conversation around achieve more with less. Allan has 27 years of experience in Sales and is the author of the best-selling book 📚 "The 7 Secrets to Selling More by Selling Less " Selling We talk about how we are actually selling all the time and yet we would not label all our activities as selling. If you go into any conversation worried about yourself, your outcome will always be mediocre. Instead if you are focusing on the person you are serving and focus on 'what's in it for them (WIIFT) then the result can really be surprising. When you sell, make the clients / the customer evoke the feeling and the emotions they will have when owning the product and service that you are serving them with. Do the effort of visualising that emotion with your senses and make an effort to elicit that emotion with your language. What you are choosing to think has a huge responsibility in the results you are getting and this is the power you have that often times we forget about. Paying attention to our thoughts and knowing that we can change our results if and when we purposely pay attention to our thinking is a very powerful awareness exercise that I would encourage you to practice. Stop being trapped by your to-do list When you don't have pressing deadlines with somebody holding us accountable for our deliverables, despite us writing to-do-lists, we often times tend to be pretty sloppy at keeping us focused and get things time within a specific amount of time. So my method (which I did not invent!) is to Decide ahead of time how much time you want to dedicate for the specific activity, Block that time in your calendar When the time comes, be laser focused - stop any distraction like you were at an exam - and get it done I talk about the push back I get from people that want to argue with me about the fact that they don't know how long it is going to take. I also highlight the fact that you don't want to aim for perfection : perfection is a way to procrastinate. Aim for a B- and not for an A+. If you have extra time you can go back and refine. But for the first draft you got to aim at B- Allan shares his store how he decided to write his book and he did so by taking time off his job. In 4 months the book was completed AND he did sell more than he did the year before - amazing isn't it? This is the power of commitment and determination, and how your mindset can really determine your outcome. My take aways from his story are: Trust your brain and let it work for you. Value-driven go will win against any other goal 100 times! If you work on your beliefs, the universe is going to help you get there... ... so powerful... I leave you with these questions: What legacy do you want to leave? What dreams do you have for yourself? What excuses are you finding to not believe you can make those ideas come true? All right, thank you for tuning in this week. Have a wonderful week! -Chiara Links at www.chiaracovone.com/14

Why Giving Advice Is Overrated
Picture this scenario: You’re going through a difficult time at work and you reach out to friends and loved ones for help and support. The response is overwhelming! You receive an insane number of tips and recommendations on what to do and how and when... you nod at the advisors and take mental notes. And then, on your own, you try to translate them into actions and  something goes wrong: it does not work! Let's look at another scenario: In this case, it is a friend or a colleague that you care about who is having hardships and you desperately want to help. So, you offer what you feel is useful advice that will assist the person in getting through this difficult situation. You arm yourself with your best intention and go into huge amount of details to help the other person being able to implement your solution right away. You leave the advice scene, you pat yourself on the shoulder for being such a good and caring friend or colleague. But, eventually, you get annoyed or frustrated when you realise that the person hasn't taken your advice further. Can't they see how simple it is to improve their situation? Why aren't they listening?! Any of these scenarios familiar? What is it that goes wrong when we try to give advice to people we care about, or we receive advice from people who care about us? Here are 3 reasons why our brilliant advice does not work: you are solving the wrong problem your advice is incomplete you are not displaying good leadership Stay curious for longer and ask questions to understand and help the person get to the bottom of the issue. A Good Day At Work
Laughter...  Are you 'allowed' to be seen laughing at your workplace? Birds connect with each other through singing. And laughter has a similar role among humans. Isn't it fascinating? And yet in so many corporate cultures, seeing people laughing will be immediately associated with poor work ethic, or not taking your job seriously. At best, laughter is accepted in very small amounts, and in very specific occasions. So how do we foster a different type of environment? one that is laughter-ready? Let's take a step back... If leadership was a staircase, the first step would be to build rapport with your people. And rapport is best built when the stakes are low. Laughter then becomes that magical thing that connects people and helps you in your efforts to let your people have a great day at work. Because, when people feel affinity, they will also strive to do a better job. And when they strive to do a better job, they will advance in their project and feel like they are making progress. And that is one of the key factors that MAKES A GOOD DAY AT WORK! You want to make something meaningful in your job.  You want to feel your job matters to the company   You want to make progress, to feel you are advancing and evolving. What are the barriers to progress then? too big goals  fear And, in times of uncertainty and remote work, fear can really take over and fill the lack of communication that we experience when we are away from our peers and managers. Studies prove in fact that working remotely increases productivity but significantly decreases interactions: these are down to 1/5 compared to when we sit in the same office with our teams. And not only this results in an overall sense of isolation, but it also reduces the amount of feedback from line manager, which can result in increased anxiety. So much we can do as individuals, as managers and as peers to ensure we all have more good days at work, and being aware of the impact that additional call can have on us and on the receiver could be a good enough motivator to pick up the phone, shut down the voice in our brain that tries to talk us out of it and ring or ping that colleague. The future of work is not about technology - AI will replace so many of our current jobs and activities. The future of work is about humanity: human connection and creativity.  If you are finding yourself having a bad day at work, reconnect with your job's why and connect with your line manager and other colleagues. There is no shame in being vulnerable. It is liberating instead. www.chiaracovone.com/12

Managers & Leaders
This week I discuss the difference between being a manager and being a leader. So often we mix the two. I found an inspiring article written by Abraham Zaleznik in an article from 1977. He wrote  how the difference between managers and leaders lies in the conceptions they hold of chaos and order.  Managers embrace process, seek stability and control, and instinctively try to resolve problems quickly—sometimes before they fully understand a problem’s significance.  Leaders, in contrast, tolerate chaos and lack of structure, and are willing to delay closure in order to understand the issues more fully. So in fact, business leaders will then have much more in common with artists, scientists, and other creative thinkers, than they do with managers.  Organisations need both managers and leaders to succeed, but to develop both there needs to be space for both logic and strategic exercises on the one hand, and creativity and imagination on the other hand. Leaders paint the picture of what is possible and inspire the manager to act upon that vision, break into actionable steps that can be monitored, executed and achieved. So Leaders are change agents vs. Managers are more about maintaining the status quo. The two roles are so different, and I discuss and elaborate on what I think are the main indifferences between being a manager and a leader.  Once we have understood and are able to differentiate between the role of a manager and that of a leader, we can look and identify different leadership styles, And in most of the literature I found, you will see that within the leadership style there are also mixed up management style, which I find very confusing. I don't think there is 7 or 9 different leadership styles.  Leadership for me is about: inspiration vision human passion Where you put a stronger emphasis between the three pillars can result in a different leadership style. Here are the 3 that resonate with me: Charismatic Leader style  Servant Leader Transformational Leader  Are you more a leader or a manager in your current role? And if you are a leader, which style do you identify yourself mostly with? Leave me a comment at chiaracovone.com/10

Succeeding as a Team
If you lead a team, a division, or an organisation, you know that one of the essential elements of your definition of success is knowing where you stand relative to your goals. What are the 'rules of the game' you are playing in?  And what does it it means to win in that game? Is it the points scored?  Is it profit?  Is it the number of people you serve? If a team is to accomplish its goals, it must know where it stands agains what the definition of success is.  This is the only way your team members can strive to continuously improve themselves and their situation.  The scoreboard dictates how the game needs to be played and then the team will plan  the way they want to play to win in the game.  As we discussed in episode #1, engagement increases when each person in the team understands their role and responsibility against the bigger team's goals, and how, fulfilling both, helps the team advance towards its ultimate aim.   In this episode I will discuss the main element of the scoreboard:  Define the rules of the game  Set SMART goals  Determine you KPIs  Decide which Metrics you want to track  Roles & responsibilities to individual team players  For full show notes visit www.chiaracovone.com/9

Live By Your Values
In this episode I talk about values and setting value-driven goals. Values are our North Star. But how often we live most our lives without spending any time in identifying what our values actually are? Our values are the reason why we feel excited about certain things and frustrated of other things. We are used to see the values written down in large posters, hanging in large corporations Corridors and so we are used for companies to have official values but it is not as often that we do the same exercise for ourselves. And it’s not enough if you did it once, a long time ago. Because you changed - we all do and so you can relook at the values that you had written down before and reevaluate them and re-decide if those are the values you want to live by today and for the future or not. Setting value-driven goals for yourself will influence your chances of success and how much you will be determined and decisive in achieving your goals.  For more info go to chiaracovone.com/7

Do you clean your kitchen counter every day? (that is if you use it of course :) ). Like we do a quick cleaning there, the same applies to our thoughts. Embrace Your Creativity Because it Lives In You
“I am not creative” doesn’t work: there’s not such a thing as creative or non-creative people. We are all born with a brain that allows us to find different solutions for problems and we just learned ourselves out of creativity as we grow - at least most of us do, as the statistics show. So join me in this conversation with Britta to rediscover your creativity and embrace it every day of your life! For my free worksheet on training your creativity go to chiaracovone.com/podcast/3
