42: Structuring a DAO // Origami DAO Launcher

Matt is one of the Co-Founders of Origami, which helps ambitious communities create the world’s most valuable DAOs. Origami supports these groups through their open and effective framework for growing DAOs. Matt and his Co-Founders got together to talk about crypto projects, fun NFT investments, and what would happen if networks could be owned and governed by people, instead of corporate giants. To organize their relationship, they formed a DAO called Orange. The early days were full of challenges, while complying with regulations, creating a scale system to ensure thousands more founders could join, and keeping their Discord from melting down to chaos.

As they overcame each challenge, Orange DAO grew to over 1,300 founders, raised $80 million, and invested in over 130 crypto projects. They even created a Fellowship program to educate future web3 entrepreneurs. As it all came together, other DAO creators asked for advice. They need guidance, introductions, documents, and user-friendly software. That’s why four of the DAO creators founded Origami. They realized that together, they had all the skills needed to help other communities create and grow their DAOs.

04: CityDAO Lead Developer & Discussion About DAO Development // Greg Anonymous

04: CityDAO Lead Developer & Discussion About DAO Development // Greg Anonymous

Greg is the original lead developer of CityDAO. Ever since that fateful tweet last summer, Greg has been tirelessly working to make the technical aspects of this venture become a reality. For this interview, Eric provides more interesting questions that give more clarity towards the CityDAO project. Greg shares his views and opinions about DAOs, NFTs, and the CityDAO project itself. He also offers some advice and recommendation to the CityDAO citizens and how they can contribute to this awesome project.

CityDAO is exploring making assets and governance digitally legible to unleash accessibility, interoperability, and opportunity. If you want to get more involved in this project, stay in touch on Twitter @CityDAO, and join the Discord! They have lots of interesting discussions happening around DAO structure, land rights and governance, urban planning, and more.

Key Points from the Interview:
  1. “I’m really excited about using NFTs to represent physical objects. I think that’s the end goal, that’s the world we want to truly work within. You hear a lot of talk about the metaverse, which is cool, but the physical world is where we live, the physical world is where we operate, and if we can more closely tie that with the digital world, that opens up a lot of possibilities in terms of interoperability and how creative I can get with my physical ownership.”
  2. “I think by the end of 2022, it is extremely likely that there will be multiple people living in a CityDAO owned property.”

02: CityDAO Ideator; From First Tweet to Successful Launch // Scott Fitsimones

02: CityDAO Ideator; From First Tweet to Successful Launch // Scott Fitsimones

Scott Fitsimones is the Founder of CityDAO and the Co-Founder and CTO of AirGarage. His previous working experiences include being a Production Engineering Intern at Facebook, Software Engineering Intern at CERN, and iOS Engineer at MobilBytes. Today, he is putting land on-chain at CityDAO and building better cities at AirGarage. Usually, Scott writes about cities, crypto, and mechanism design. He also believes in building things you want to exist and writes about the things you want to change.

CityDAO is building a network of assets on-chain, starting with a single parcel of land in Wyoming. Each parcel of land is an NFT that can be owned collectively by the DAO or by individuals. It is a DAO, or Decentralized Autonomous Organization, meaning it is managed by the community. It is also a DAO for decentralized asset ownership.

Key Points from the Interview:
  1. “CityDAO is aiming to decentralize ownership of land and assets, and so I think there’s a trend here, which is, these assets formerly only accessible to the wealthiest Americans, and now they’re being democratized through these DAOs that are coming together to own them collectively.”
  2. “One of my core motivating beliefs is that mechanism design can make the world better.”

01: Introduction to CityDAO & The CityDAO Podcast // Oisin Lyons

01: Introduction to CityDAO & The CityDAO Podcast // Oisin Lyons

Oisin Lyons is from Ireland & he's one of the founding citizens of CityDAO. This introduction episode focuses on some of the key issues and topics being discussed around DAO's & topics within the CityDAO Discord. So what is CityDAO all about? CityDAO is exploring decentralized asset ownership on chain, starting with a piece of land in Wyoming. Each parcel of land is an NFT that can be owned collectively by the DAO collectively or by individuals. It is a DAO, or Decentralized Autonomous Organization, meaning it is managed by the community.

The goal of CityDAO is to be able to buy land all over the US and world. They are starting in Wyoming because of the state's new 2021 DAO law, which recognizes DAO governance of LLC corporations. Because LLCs can own land, this creates a powerful pathway for decentralized land ownership. If you want to get involved, check out their twitter @CityDAO, and join the Discord! They have lots of interesting discussions happening around DAO structure, land rights and governance, urban planning, and more.

Key Points from the Interview:

  1. “CityDAO is ultimately a DAO that is aiming to build a city on the Ethereum blockchain.”
  2. “By bringing that land on chain and by building up the CityDAO, you have a lot more of these people coming in and a lot more people getting interested. And now, as I’ve said, we have a lot of people that are in the DAO, that are experts in all these areas that may not have been there if we decided to take the more slow and structured approach.”
