Coach Adrean's FIT Tip : The Norm To Conform
A hidden camera experiment was conducted to see if most people conform to the behaviors of others. The goal was to see if a woman (who was being monitored without her knowledge) would stand up at the sound of a tone simply because everyone else stood up. Surprisingly, after just 3 rounds of witnessing others stand up at the sound of the tone, she conformed perfectly to the group without even knowing why. Jonah Berger of the University of PA explains that this internalized form of behavior is part of social learning which starts at a very early age. Conformity not only effects how you act, but similar forces are subconsciously shaping the way you think. If life is like a routine and you want to find time to find ways for something important for you, here’s what you can do:  (1) Find your focus. It might be to get a promotion, increase your skill on the piano, or become a more effective parent.  (2) Pursue progress and forget perfection. The goal is on moving forward not how fast you go or how well you do it.  (3) Then schedule time for yourself.
