I am so excited that Emily Harrington and I were finally able to sit down and have this conversation. Emily and I have been wanting to record a podcast together for over a year. We have conversations often where we say, “Why weren’t we recording this?!”

We share our thoughts on women in business, the importance of women supporting other women, and how we are both passionate about how what we do with our uterus is no one else's business.

Episode 109: Embracing Change + Recognizing When You Need a Shake-Up
Since early March, we were all given a massive wake-up call. Whether we expected it, were ready for it, liked it, or not, it was forced upon us. For many of us, this forced wake-up call has made us look at many parts of our lives and examine what needs to be changed. One question I have been asking myself lately is, “do I really want every area of my life to go back to “normal” after this is over?”
So here we all are, experiencing so many collective wake-up calls. As you sit there, reading this, your life might be on the edge of a precipice. You may be in need of a change, and quite possibly, your life needs a shake up. Don’t worry, that is your wake-up call. It might feel scary, but I promise you, it gets so much better. But it only gets better if you wade through the emotional discomfort.

Episode 108: Moving Through The Stages of Grief
I wanted to share these steps with you because there is something really powerful when we can claim what we are feeling, instead of it claiming us. This is how we are able to move through the stages of grief (over any loss) with more ease. Not by bypassing our feelings, but in the awareness of what we are feeling. My hope is that knowing what each stage might feel like for you, the awareness will guide you through it.
Episode 107: The Emotional Scale + How To Use Your Emotions To Inform Your Decisions
We all have an emotional compass that guides us in our decision-making. This is really important because our decisions are made from how we feel, or how we think it will make us feel, or how we want to feel.

Life can feel so hard sometimes; especially during a global pandemic where there is so much learning we have to go through. And it can definitely feel challenging when you are in a state of learning, growing, changing and even unlearning. Episode 105: WalkSpiration - Giving Yourself What You Need To Feel The Way You Want To Feel
Every once in a while, I go for a walk in nature and the inspiration hits me. So I hit record on my phone and bring you a WALKSPIRATION. Last week I walked in the rain and got inspired by some ducks, had a little cry out on the trails with mother nature and felt my heart expand. In this share, I'm talking about feeling what you need to feel, including joy, stopping the negative self-talk, expanding your heart, giving yourself what you need, and allowing yourself to experience joyful moments.
Episode 104: GirlTalk with Jolene Watson
Every month Jolene and I chat about our life and give you questionably helpful tools :-) If you have ever been in a coffee shop and eaves dropped on the table beside you, that is what our conversations feel like.
This month we are talking about our visions and goals, why it is important to stay optimistic even during this COVID-19 challenge, redefining success and how we are both coping.
Episode 103: Ways To Cope When You Are On An Emotional Rollercoaster With Shulamit Ber Levtov
In this share, I sat down for a chat with Shulamit Ber Levtov, MA, RSW, CCTP. This was an amazing conversation and Shula is an incredible human being. We talked about ways you can cope when you are on an emotional rollercoaster, what you can do if you are experiencing trauma, what happens to our body and mind when our nervous systems response to threat is turned on, and normalizing our primal instincts to an abnormal situation. We talked about how all this relates to the COVID-19 situation we are in now and what might be happening in your body and mind. We even talked about why you might be eating more and moralizing language around food.
Connect With Shula:
Episode 102: Four Questions To Ask Yourself To Ride The Rollercoaster of COVID-19
I don't know about you, but I feel like the universe has put floaties on me and I'm learning how to swim again. I believe that right now it isn't just important to do a weekly check-in, but a daily check-in. These questions are a beautiful way to connect to your inner guidance system and help you to navigate your way through this unchartered water.⠀
In this podcast I share how these four questions are helping me to take inspired action on what I need each day to wade through the daily emotional rollercoaster that myself, and many of us are experiencing right now.
- What do I need mentally today? ⠀
- What do I need emotionally today? ⠀
- What do I need physically today? ⠀
- What do I need spiritually today?

Episode 101: Positive & Honest Communication With Your Team & At Home (During and After The Covid-19 Crisis)
Jolene Watson and I are back having what has become a weekly podcast chat. Being able to support and communicate with all of you with my best friend has made a massive impact on my mental and emotional health during this crisis.
In this conversation, we are talking about:
Introvert vs. extrovert communication (including engaging your team on conference calls).
The importance of expressing your needs based on your unique personality, or the needs of your current situation.
How now is the best time to learn about each others personalities and stress triggers.
Giving grace to your team, your leader, yourself and those at home while we all navigate these unchartered waters.
We also talk about getting out of busy work and how it seems to just be our default.
And Jolene shares her THINK acronym that we can follow before we speak.
And so much more because we are just two friends chatting, wanting to give you tools and a distraction :-)
I'll be offering free coaching until this crisis ends. If you need support, you can reach out to me anytime. My email is lauriesheldrick@contagiouslypositive.ca
Episode 100: Learning How To Teach Your Children at Home During COVID-19 with Lorraine Driscoll
In this episode, I sat down with Lorraine Driscoll of Building Better Brains to talk about how to continue educating your children at home during COVID-19 and school closures.
Lorraine has over 13+ years as an elementary teacher, and has studied and works in Neuroplastic Learning Therapies. She is also a Registered Nutritionist. Triple powerhouse!
We talked about ways you can continue to educate your children at home, how you don’t have to replicate the educational system, the importance of teaching your children emotional intelligence and resilience so this doesn’t become a trauma, and she offers advice on how to speak to your children about COVID-19. We also talk about tools to help your children (and yourself) process all the emotions we are feeling right now.
Episode 99: Adjusting To Working From Home
Jolene Watson and I are back and answering questions about how to adjust to working from home. When we first recorded episode 98, it was pre COVID-19, so we thought we better come back and do a part 2 addressing what is happening today and how to cope to a new work from home routine.
We discuss how to stay disciplined, planning and organizing your day, creating habits and rituals that strengthen your mind, the importance of doing the inner work and not letting fear run the show. We also talk about how it is no longer business and life as usual, so what does a new normal look like and how to stay connected to your team.
Show Link Mentions:
Episode 98: The Benefits of Working From Home For Corporations & Entrepreneurs
When Jolene Watson and I first recorded this podcast, over a month ago, we had no idea what was to come with COVID-19, which is why we don’t discuss it. It hadn’t reached us yet. We decided to still release this podcast anyway, and will create a part 2 shortly with what we are experiencing today.
With that being said, this podcast is a discussion about the benefits of working from home, from a corporation and entrepreneurial perspective. I believe that once this crisis ends, and it will, we will be implementing better strategies, policies and procedures that not only protect the physical health of employees, but also the emotional and mental health.
Episode 97: Asking For & Receiving Help - Why Is It So Damn Hard?
In this episode, I'm talking about how to ask for and receive help when you need it, without feeling guilty of being a "burden"
It is okay to say you can’t do it alone. It is okay to ask for help. It is okay to not have the answers. It is okay if the problem feels bigger than you can handle.
When my husband needs help with something, he simply just asks, “hey, can you help me with this?” He doesn’t stress over it for hours, or break his back trying to do it by himself. He simply just asks and accepts. I have always admired this about him.
My pattern is quite different. When I need help with something, my default tends to go to, “how can I figure out how to do this all by myself so that I don’t bother anyone or become a burden?” I proceed to try a bunch of different things, huff, puff, stress myself out, break my back, and finally I give in and I reluctantly ask for help. Or, I’ll get asked if I need help and I’ll proceed to say, “no, don’t worry, I got it.” Even though I know full well that I don’t got it!
Sound familiar? If yes, this share is for you. I also share some journal prompts so that you can do some self-coaching.
Episode 96: Sisterhood (why we crave it, why we need it) + Why There Is No Shame In Not Always Being Okay
We cannot be powerful women if we do not support those who are being or feeling disempowered.
The purpose of sisterhood is to feel supported and be supportive, without judgment, creating a deep connection with other women who will say, “me too! Let’s learn, grow and be, do and have all that we desire together!”
So much of the “work” I’m doing now is unlearning all the things the world has told me I big fat SHOULD be, do, feel, want and desire - you’re a woman, here are your rules. The moment we stop being so hard on ourselves about how we feel, is when we actually start to feel better. The moment we start to question the rules and create sisterhood, we UNLEASH!
Episode 95: The Judgments We Receive & The Judgments We Give + Creating a Non-Judgment Zone
This is probably the most important, must hear podcast I’ve ever recorded and shared. To someone, you will always be too something. There will be times when you are loudly judged, quietly judged, or perhaps you are thinking that you are being judged. I talk about ways to create a circle of protection and staying in our own lane.
This is our divide…judgment.
She’s too assertive
She’s too passive
She’s so self-judging
She’s so conceded
She talks too much
She never opens up
She spends too much time obsessing over her body
She should really watch her weight
To someone, you will always be too something. Someone will think you are too aggressive, and someone else will think you are too passive. Which one is true. The one you make true. The one you believe is true. That is why we have to learn how to question our internal and external judgments. It can only ever be true if we believe it to be so, and than act upon, or not act upon that belief.
Episode 94: Creating a Cohesive Team & Removing Toxicity In the Workplace
You spend, on average, 8 hours a day at work. That is 40 hours per week, 160 hours per month, and 1,920 hours per year. If you are working in a toxic environment, or are the leader of a toxic environment/team, that is way too many hours being stressed out and miserable.
Pre-Contagiously Positive days, I spent 10 years working in a corporation and have spent the last 7 facilitating corporate workshops. I’ve seen a lot about what makes a team work together cohesively, and also what creates a toxic environment.
In this podcast, I’m going to share two perspectives to create a positive work environment and put the HUMAN back into human resources.
1. What the leaders (those who make the decisions and policies) can do.
2. What you (and your team) can do.
I talk about toxic barriers, like gossip, and turf protecting and what you and the company can do, and what it means to fully take on the responsibility of leader.
Episode 93: Being Intentional About Your Time, Energy & Focus + Clarity On What Feels Fulfilling
In this carspiration quickie, I’m talking about taking pause and asking yourself, “what can I do today that is fulfilling?” I share why being intentional about where we spend our time, energy and focus can have a massive positive impact on how we feel and on our energy levels – making us contagiously positive.
I also share an exercise for you at the end that you can practice.
Episode 92: Creating Healthy Boundaries + Fulfillment & Protecting Our Time With Jolene Watson
She's back! Jolene Watson is back for another meaningful conversation; woman to woman, friend to friend and entrepreneur to entrepreneur. This conversation is jam packed with so many goodies! You will want to listen right to the end where Jolene explains the platinum rule that could transform all of your relationships.
We are talking about:
- Making sure we are spending 80-90% of our time on fulfillment.
- Being intentional with our time, energy and focus.
- Creating healthy boundaries with others and ourselves.
- Positive assertiveness vs aggressive assertiveness.
- How to have boundary conversations with friends, family and coworkers.
- The importance of taking pause before saying yes.
- And so much more!

Episode 91: Is Your Default To Get Defensive When Someone Says Something To You or About You?
In this episode quickie, I’m talking about what we can do to bring down our defence systems if someone says something to us, or about us that makes us angry and we just can’t let it go. I also give you questions you can ask yourself to see why you are reacting and responding the way you are, and if there is underlying trigger.
Episode 90: Overcoming a Scarcity Money Mindset
In this episode, I'm talking about limiting beliefs and scarcity money mindset. It’s not only okay to talk about money, but it is essential if you want to become financially abundant. I take you through a few exercises to get clear about your beliefs around money and then we go a little deeper and I share a few reprogramming tips to make you shift your mindset and overcome a scarcity mindset. I also share abundance exercises so that you can program your mind to work for you, instead of against you.

Episode 89: You Are So F**king Contagiously Positive
Pre-contagiously positive days, I worked in the construction industry in project coordination/management. One day on site, during the time I was right in the middle of practicing shifting my mindset, we had another five-alarm problem happen. The subcontractor who came to inform me was livid. As I sat there listening to him rip into me, I thought, I cannot control the way he is feeling, but I'm not going to go down this rabbit hole with him. Instead, I'm going to shift into a solution-based mindset.. After a few minutes he looked at me and said, “Laurie-ann, you are so f**king contagiously positive. I don't know if I hate you or like you." I don't think he meant it as a compliment, but I chose to take it as one.
In this episode, I’m talking about 5 things I was doing that made him say that to me, and that I continue to do today to keep my (and my clients) emotional, mental, emotional and spiritual muscles strong.
I’m sharing:
1. How To Program Your Mind To Work For You, Not Against You
2. How Not To Let Unrealistic Fear Be Your Decision Maker
3. How To Recognize When You Getting a Wake-Up Call
4. How To Use Your Past As Guidance, Not a Prison
5. How Happiness Requires Action
9-Week Self-Guided Course: Unleash Your Inner Contagiously Positive
Episode 88: All Things Entrepreneurial & Stress With Jolene Watson
In this episode, I'm having an incredible conversation with my dear friend, Jolene Watson of Clarity Coaching & Development. We talk about entrepreneurial stress, and how to avoid all the pitfalls that we have learned along our own entrepreneurial journey. You don't want to miss out on this conversation.
Episode 87: Unleashing Your Inner Leader
If you are leader, and want to stretch time, this one is for you. I talk about ways to unleash your inner leader by breaking habits, changing patterns and having the necessary (sometimes difficult) conversations.
Episode 86: The Power of Awareness with Cindy Lutes
This is a really exciting podcast. I'm interviewing my dear friend Cindy Lutes and we are having an amazing conversation, woman to woman, on the many ways we can be & feel abundant even through the difficult times in our lives.
We talk about:
- The power of our mind.
- Ways to reframe our negative thoughts.
- Why our words matter.
- Making love louder.
- And Cindy shares one thing we can start doing today to strengthen our mental and emotional muscles.
Episode 85: What Do YOU Really Want?
We see something on social media, or someone markets a new course, or service or product, that says: “this is what you need to do and if you don’t you will get left behind.” We think we need to have it, without really questioning it because it spoke to our fears, worries and doubts and all of a sudden for the next 3-6-12 months we are putting all our energy into working towards what we don’t actually want because we believe it will get us so much closer (and faster) to what we don’t want. But did we even think about what it was that we wanted? And are we getting closer to what we want? No, because we are following a road without a map. Stuck in a traffic circle unable to make our exit because we never entered where we were going into our inner guidance system. How can we get closer if we don’t even really know what we want (where we are going)?
In this episode I'm taking you through an exercise on creating the ideal vision of the life that you want.
What do you want for your health?
What do you want to accomplish this year?
What do you want for your career?
What do you want for your relationships?
What do you want for your finances?
What hobbies do you want to take up?
What do you want to learn?
What does your personal, professional and spiritual growth look like this year?
Who do you want to be?
What do you want to do?
What do you want to have?
Where do you want to go?
How do you want to feel?
Episode 84: Becoming a Master Problem Solver
I became dubbed the contagiously positive girl after practicing being a problem solver instead of always being a part of the problem. Over the years I have become a really good problem solver. In this podcast, I'm sharing two exercises to help you strengthen your problem solving muscles.
Being a problem solver means accepting the situation or problem for what it is - name the problem. Don’t sugar coat it, toss it in glitter or roll it in fluff – name it, own it, accept it. And then, start throwing solutions at it.
Episode 83: Being Mindful of Your Shadow Self
We all have a shadow self.
It’s the ying to our yang.
The sadness to our joy.
The impatience to our patience.
It is the negative thoughts/beliefs to our positive thoughts, and supporting beliefs.
It is the darkness to our light.
In this episode, I'm talking about how we go through life with these contrasts and that we are designed as humans to experience the entire human scale of emotions. You will learn how we resist this, and the problem with resisting it is that the more we fight to resist what are just natural emotions, the more it persists, and it persists by holding us so deeply in the dark corners of our mind that we are not experiencing the other side - the joy, the excitement, the magical light.
Your physical shadow doesn’t appear without there being a bright sun. Your spiritual shadow is the same. You would not know darkness had you never known the light and vice versa.
Episode 82: From Breakdowns to Breakthroughs
In this podcast, I'm talking about rock bottoms, and how to climb back up. I'm talking about breakdowns to blessings, and how to see the lessons within the struggle. I'm also talking about how your breakdowns don't need to be feared, or run from because they become, if you choose, your breakthroughs and blessings.
Episode 81: Staying Committed When You Want To Give Up
"I know what I need to do, why is it so hard to do it?"
The applying is really where the challenge lies. We know we need to work out. We know that we should be eating healthy. We understand that we need to take time to fill our own cup. So why is it so difficult to take consistent action and truly commit? In this podcast I talk a lot about fear and making new choices and that is really where it all begins; it starts with the choice and claiming what you want.
Episode 80: The Stories You Tell: Are They Supporting You, Or Holding You Back?
The stories that we tell are either supporting us, or holding us back. What is the narrative that you are living your life from?
Some of us are so caught up in our old stories that we don’t even realize that our life is on one big repeated loop. If you want to take your past into to the present, you are going to have to let go of living in the stories of should’ve, would’ve, could’ve. You have the choice to be the heroine or hero of your story. You can do this by embracing all the parts of who you were, who you are, who you will be, and who you want to be.
In this episode I am sharing one of my own personal negative stories that I perfecting + how to change the narrative and giving you a spiritual assignment to take action.
Episode 79: Embracing Change Through Life Shakeups
Change is inevitable. We can fight against it. We can resist it. We can ignore it. But it’s still there and it’s still going to happen. Resist it, and constantly fight against the current, or we can embrace it knowing that it’s the most natural thing that happens as we age, grow, learn and evolve, as the seasons of our lives change, and as our wants, desires and needs change.
Listen in to dive deeper as I give you some baby steps to embrace change and stop any mad hatter madness you might be feeling in any area of your life during a shakeup.
Episode 78: Pivoting Your Thoughts From Darkness To Light
The longer you think about a thought, the stronger that thought becomes because it is given the time and space to gain momentum. Saying to yourself, "I'm not going to think about this thought that I have been thinking about all day anymore" doesn't usually work. Why? Because saying you are not going to think about it, actually makes you think about it. Instead, it is more effective to think about something else. Meaning, activate new thoughts to deactivate the one you really want to stop stewing over.
In this podcast, I'm sharing tools on how to deactivate a negative thought by activating another thought. Stopping the momentum and not taking up permanent residence in negative-ville.
Episode 77: Honouring Your Self-Worth
We work the work to strengthen our spiritual, mental, emotional, attitudinal, and physical muscles (even when we don't want to) because we are worthy of all that we want to be, do and have in this beautiful life.
In this episode I'm talking about reframing how we perceive our self-worth and be confident in who you are. YOU are more than enough. YOU have always been enough. YOU will always be enough.
Episode 76: You Gotta Feel It To Heal It + Personal Anxiety Story + Grounding Exercise
Stuffing down our feelings never works - what we resist persists. So how can we work through the emotions without them taking us down? I share what I did recently when I was feeling anxiety rise up + a grounding exercise to help you bring yourself back to a more present and peaceful state.
Show Link Mentions: Unleash Your Inner Contagiously Positive
Episode 75: A Little Something To Boost Your Confidence
In this episode, I'm talking about speaking to yourself with self-love, compassion and kindness as a way to gain confidence. Confidence comes from taking action and a knowingness that success and failure go together.
Episode 74: Asking For And Accepting Help When You Need It
Being able to do everything yourself does not mean you have to. Thinking you should be able to manage everything, doesn’t mean you should. Asking for help isn't weak, dirty, inconvenient to the other person, or wrong. It is the strongest, most courageous, most freeing thing we can do.
In this episode I'm sharing a personal story about how I developed a limiting belief around asking for help. I'm also sharing how I now believe that being okay with asking for and accepting help, for external and internal things when we need it, helps us to unleash our inner contagiously positive.
