Mental Health in Construction with MATES NZ
This week we are joined by James Sendall and Damian Tuiloma who are two field officers for MATES in Construction NZ.
MATES is an evidence-based workplace suicide prevention model, developed to reduce high suicide rates in the construction industry. Their peer-based support programme takes a "boots on the ground" approach to changing the conversation around workplace mental health in male-dominated industries. James and Damian are two field officers who share how mental health impacted their lives and the roads that led them to dedicating their lives to helping suicide prevention with MATES.

This week we are joined by Maddie Walsh, Head of Relationships & Business Development at One Eighty Inc. One Eighty is youth mental health done differently. Run by young people for young people. One Eighty offers free peer to peer support groups (in-person and virtual) for young people going through mental health challenges.
Maddie talks us through how One Eighty got started in Sydney's Northern Beaches and how peer to peer support is a proven, effective method to improving youth mental health.

Cheski Walker (from Episode #2) returns to interview me as I open up about my experience with an eating disorder and how it had a big impact on my mental health. I am conscious that speaking openly about my eating disorder may be triggering for some people so please only listen if you are comfortable with this.

Join me in this extended episode to meet my lovely Kinesiologist, Natasha. Natasha started her own clinic in Bondi Junction where she works as a qualified Kinesiologist, Integrative Medical Practitioner and Life, Health & Wellness Coach. I started seeing Natasha in May 2020 and I am so thankful for all she's helped me with.
Natasha has played a very important role in my mental health journey and I wouldn't be where I am today without her help. In this episode, Natasha talks about what got her into kinesiology and how she works to support people with their mental health. I also share some more parts of my journey and open up about my experience across some of my sessions.

In Episode #1, Zara introduced us to the 1 Giant Mind Meditation Course. Inspired by her growth, I reached out to Stelios and signed up for his 3-day online meditation course. Boy was my mind blown.
Stelios has had an incredible journey, from depression to finding fulfilment & joy in meditation. He now practices as a certified meditation teacher to share his passion for the practice of meditation with us all. I'm your host, Juliet Kirby and for this pilot episode, I'm joined by a close friend Zara Mahood. Zara and I have shared a similar experience when it comes to mental health and this is the first time opening up and sharing some difficult parts of that journey with you all. We both struggled with eating disorders and anxiety which we crack open the conversation about in this episode.
For both of us, reaching out for support, learning to connect with our body and practicing meditation played a big part in strengthening our mental health. We felt it was important to share our journeys to crack the mental health stigma, one conversation at a time.
