EP 223: Is Nursing Worth it?
Nursing offers financial stability, with salaries ranging from $65,000 to $110,000. Despite the initial perception, this income compares favorably to the median middle-class household income in the US. Staff nursing provides the highest demand and earning potential, while travel nursing offers even greater financial rewards.
Overtime and shift differentials allow nurses to maximize their pay, with night and weekend shifts offering higher rates. Job security is a significant advantage in nursing, as healthcare needs remain constant. Even during emergencies, nurses are in higher demand, often earning more.
Nursing presents numerous career advancement opportunities, from administrative roles to specialized positions like nurse practitioners and nurse anesthetists. Additional schooling can lead to higher incomes, but a BSN alone positions you for success.
EP 222: Difference Between Men and Women Nurses
I delve into the intriguing differences between male and female nurses. I explore the fascinating world of nursing leadership, uncovering why male nurses often excel in leadership roles. We'll also unravel the interesting perception of male nurses as "mini-doctors" by some patients, and discuss whether guys truly have the reputation for being "nicer" than their female counterparts. We'll dive into the realm of workplace dynamics, examining the drama factor within nursing teams and how male nurses bring a unique camaraderie through shared snacks. Plus, we'll explore the invaluable physical and intellectual support male nurses provide, along with their remarkable personable nature.

EP 219: The Current State of Travel Nursing
I discuss the current state of travel nursing. During the pandemic, healthcare providers faced challenges in acquiring essential resources, leading to a surge in demand for nurses. This increased demand resulted in remarkably high salaries for travel nurses, reaching over $4,000 per week. The higher pay came from federal funding, general grants, and reimbursement for uninsured patients, totaling over $127 billion distributed to major hospitals.
However, travel nursing salaries have started to stabilize at around $3,100 per week since December 2022. The decrease in travel nurse pay can be attributed to a decrease in government funding. Hospitals are not hiring as many nurses as before, impacting travel nursing contracts. Despite this, there is still a strong demand for registered nurse positions, with an estimated annual increase of over 203,000 positions expected between 2021 and 2031.
The travel nursing market experiences seasonal changes, with different specialties peaking at different times of the year. Additionally, there has been an increase in incentives for staff nurses, such as higher sign-on bonuses and pick-up bonuses. Overall, travel nursing remains a lucrative option, but prices are stabilizing from the all-time highs seen in recent years. The video also mentions the rising trend of PRN nursing as an alternative option.

Our bodies have a language of their own, and if we know how to listen, it can teach us many things. When we understand our body language, we can also understand others and provide them with what they need but are too hesitant to ask. But how can we understand what our body says? And how do we know when our body is talking to us? In this episode, we will learn how body language works, psychosomatic bodywork, and how it can help us heal ourselves and others. If this interests your curiosity, join us as we tackle another exciting episode of Cup of Nurses. 😎

EP 199: The Renal System and RAAS
In this episode, we will talk about the renal system. Specifically, the anatomy of the kidney, how it filters blood and converts it to urine for excretion, and the RAAS system, the way your kidneys regulate your blood pressure.
The renal system produces, stores, and eliminates urine. The kidneys make urine by filtering wastes and extra water from the blood. Urine travels from the kidneys through two thin tubes called ureters and fills the bladder. When the bladder is full of urine, a person urinates through the urethra to eliminate the waste.

Nursing in Chicago & Thailand Trip | Nurse Debriefing EP28
We're excited to announce that this will be our last Nurse Debrief in the United States as we leave for Thailand! But don't worry; we'll be back, of course. We need to take some time off from travel nursing and enjoy some sun! So, Thailand, here we come!
If you want to be a part of our debrief podcast episodes, all you got to do is hit us up, and we'll be happy to have you on with us and share your nursing experiences! Send us a DM, comment, or email if you want to join us in our episodes. We will be waiting for you!
We are back in Chicago for this debrief, and it got us thinking about how it was for us as nurses working in Chi. We started our careers here and often stayed working during the cold months. Don't get us wrong, though; Chicago is one of the most beautiful cities here in the US, and the skyline doesn't compare to any city. But Matt and I agree that being in California is different than working here. The breaks and nursing resources are different. But compared to all the hospitals, as far as nursing goes, it's quite the same. Chicago is more trauma heavy as there is violence and crime. And if you want to learn more about our nursing experiences here in Chicago and our travel plans, keep watching! All of these and more on this Cup of Nurses Debriefing episode 😎

San Diego Travel Nursing Contract Reflection | Nurse Debriefing EP27
For this debriefing, we are happy to announce that we are on the last leg of our contract. We're excited to start our next journey, not having to worry about being floated to another unit, and getting enough sleep! Sometimes we just go with the flow and face the uncertainties of nursing.
The theme for this contract was adapting. We were floated a lot, take into consideration that we've worked ICU the majority of our careers. Getting floated to med-surg, oncology, tele, DOU, and ortho really taught us how to adapt. Each unit has different expectations and priorities. We also floated multiple times a shift usually to admit a patient or two. We had to adapt to not knowing where we'll be for the night and for how long we'll be there for. All this floating has made us more resilient but lets try to not do that again 😅
What is the most frustrating thing you've experienced as a travel nurse? ? 🤔 Share your stories with us in the comment section below! 👇🏼

In today's episode, Matt shares his experience as a nurse turned patient after injuring himself in a Ju Jitsu tournament. 😬 He got body-slammed into the mat and heard a clicking sound on the right side of his ribs. He knew immediately that something was wrong, so he went to the ER, thinking he had a fractured rib. They took an X-ray, which took a while. So, this doctor walked in after his X-ray and did not even touch Matt or assess the part where he felt the pain (shocking, we know!). He barely assessed Matt and didn't diagnose him until Matt did his research and diagnosed himself with a slipped rib.
Find out more about Matt's case, our patient with necrotizing fasciitis, and more exciting stories by watching this full episode! 😎
