Mills Will Never End
The spirit of Mills College–its magical madness–will never go away. While the standalone school won’t exist after a June 30, 2022 merger with Northeastern University, Mills's legacy can continue. Host Isabella Forti-Lynch interviews alum Lila Goehring about organizing Save Mills during a pandemic and what's next. Contributor Jessica Williams also brings us voices from the student community.
For Us, Resources For Us
Who’s there to help students of color find our power? In this episode of Cyclone Radio, host Rosina Ghebreyesus talks about needs with Mills students Josie Hall, Kendall Bobo and Meron Andebrhan. Rosina also interviews Mills alum Myila Granberry about getting support from the Alumnae of Color Committee. Co-host Camille Schmitt delivers an Oakland dispatch from the Gold Beams event Second Mondays. Plus co-host Anisa Aguirre shares a personal story about family and discovering much-needed resources.
It’s OK To Bleed A Little
We’re going to get a little vulnerable today ... In this episode of Cyclone Radio, we explore the journey to wellness. Host Bella Jude Garcia connects with Chanel Ortiz, Coordinator for Health & Wellness Initiatives at Mills College. Together they talk about finding resources in order to thrive. Also contributors/Mills graduate students Liz Mariani and Tashandra Poullard share their personal insights about cultivating mental health. Because we are all deserving of wellness.
I Am the First
It’s hard to be on your own for the first time. And being a first-generation college student, when your parents or grandparents can’t share guidance, it can feel like such an impossibility to care of yourself and your school work. But we’re not completely alone. On today’s episode of Cyclone radio, host Erin Maher talks to Mills student Cielos Santiago about what it means to be “the first.” Co-host Rosina Ghebreyesus also speaks with Mills student Alia Phelps for perspective.
A More Inclusive Space
Too often our school is described as “Mills College, a women’s college.” So many gender identities get overlooked. And in this episode of Cyclone Radio, host Camille Schmitt spends time with August Bachand, a transgender male student at Mills. August offers insight into how he’s found community, and shares ways to put our allyship into action. Co-host Isabella Forti-Lynch also interviews former Mills student Jaden Young about his experience. A BIG thanks to all of you.
