Ep. 285 - Shutter Up: Capturing Life One Click At A Time! | Adam Belmont & Bryan Ward
🎙️ Welcome to a new episode! I’m excited to share this important announcement!
🟫 Shutter Up: Capturing Life One Click At A Time! | Adam Belmont & Bryan Ward | Ep. 285
👉 Adam Belmont’s photographic journey began when his first child.
👉 He considered bringing home a child to be probably one of the most natural opportunities for an adult to pick up a “real” camera for the first time, especially for those who weren’t raised with any influences in photography growing up from family or other outside sources, as was the case for Adam.
👉 Before his daughter’s birth, he knew he wanted to approach documenting her life in a unique way.
👉 So, he specifically envisioned capturing childhood and her development through what he later learned was from a reportage, photojournalism and documentary perspective (through more of a ‘fine art’ lens) in which he captured the ‘real’ - the honest moments, the quiet moments, the mundane moments, happy moments and, yes, even the challenging moments.
👉 Adam’s passion for family documentary photography specifically covers documenting my childrens’ upbringing because, quite frankly, that’s all he had time for outside of work hours.
👉 Needless to say, he caught the bug and the rest is history.
👉 Please make sure you follow him on IG and check out his website.

Ep. 273 - Redemption & Resilience | Casey Diaz & Bryan Ward
🎙️ Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast.
🟫 Redemption & Resilience| Casey Diaz and Bryan Ward
👉 Darwin “Casey” Diaz is a former gang leader and growing up on the mean streets of Los Angeles, he was forced to fight for his life.
👉 He was eventually incarcerated as one of the most violent criminals in California.
👉 While in prison, several dudes from two long-established gangs—18th Street and Florencia 13—asked him to become a “shot caller.”
👉 One of the shot callers’ responsibilities was to control the shanks within the prison population—the crude homemade knives used for stabbing another prisoner.
👉 Casey was the one who slept with the shanks—all thirteen of them under his mattress. It would be suicidal not to give him your shank because if you don’t, then he’d have you killed.
👉 Then Casey was transferred to New Folsom State Prison outside Sacramento, California, and placed in solitary confinement because of his “shot caller” status.
👉 Social interactions with other inmates were nonexistent and severely limited with guards.
👉 After a year or so at New Folsom, he heard the guards come by his cell with an announcement: “Church service. Any inmate wanting to go, stand by your gate.”
👉 His life was forever changed in that cell when one day God approached Casey in a miraculous way.
👉 Upon his release from prison, Casey landed a job making signs and today runs his own company, Samiah Signs.
👉 Casey enjoys teaching at church and sharing his story with audiences around the country.
👉 Grateful for a second chance at life, Casey wrote a book called The Shot Caller.
👉 When you read Casey Diaz’s book, you will understand why he knows firsthand how gangs destroy lives and ravage neighborhoods.
👉 Casey was caught up in a destructive lifestyle and was in deep about as deep as you can go. It’s amazing he’s still alive.
👉 Everyone needs to be concerned, especially parents of teens and young children who ask, “What can I do to keep my kids out of gangs?”
👉 Casey says there’s no easy answer, but you can certainly take steps to greatly reduce the odds of one of your children being caught up in a gang.
👉Make sure you check out Casey’s links in the show notes.

Ep. 247 - A Race Against Blindness | Dr Johnston and Bryan Ward

Parenting Pep Talk: How Do I Build A Strong Connection With My Teenager | Bryan Ward | Ep. 246
Click the links below or in the show notes!
Welcome to a new episode of The Dad Up Podcast. I’m excited to share another episode of Parenting Pep Talk.
In today's episode, I want to share a question I received from a fan of the show.
So I thought we could dive into the topic of building a deep connection with your teenager.
As parents, it is crucial to maintain a strong bond with our teenagers, as this connection plays a vital role in their emotional well-being, development, and overall happiness. So, let's jump right in!
Segment 1: Understanding the Teenage Mind
During adolescence, teenagers undergo significant physical, emotional, and cognitive changes. They are exploring their identities, seeking independence, and experiencing intense emotions.
Understand these emotions.
Segment 2: Active Listening and Effective Communication
Important to Practice genuine interest in their lives, thoughts, and concerns. Encourage open and honest communication by creating a safe and non-judgmental space. Avoid interrupting or dismissing their feelings, and instead, validate their experiences.
Segment 3: Quality Time and Shared Activities
Spending quality time with your teenager can strengthen your bond and create lasting memories. Find activities that you both enjoy and make time for them regularly.
Segment 4: Respect and Trust
Building a deep connection requires mutual respect and trust. Respect your teenager's opinions, even if you disagree. Involve them in decision-making processes and show that their input is valued. Avoid excessive control or micromanagement, as it can hinder the development of trust.
Segment 5: Empathy and Emotional Support
Adolescence can be a challenging time emotionally. Show empathy and provide emotional support for your teenager.
Validate their feelings, offer guidance, and help them navigate through difficult situations. Safe to come to you.
Building a deep connection with your teenager is a journey that requires patience, understanding, and effort.
By practicing active listening, effective communication, spending quality time, and providing emotional support, you can create a strong and lasting bond with your teenager.
Remember, the teenage years are a precious time for growth and self-discovery, and your role as a parent is crucial in helping them navigate this transformative stage of life.
