#Creativeinspo, Seconds To Courage.
By Daisy Salvacion-Shields
These inspiring stories are told as a personal narrative read aloud by each guest, with follow up questions by me.
My hope is to encourage you to find the courage to take inspired action. It can take years on a whole, but really it takes a split second to make a decision to go for it, and my guests and I are here to CHEER YOU ON!
#Creativeinspo, Seconds To Courage.Feb 16, 2022
TRAILER: It's HAPPENING!! I'm hitting the publish button and it only took a second!
That's why I'm starting this podcast. I know how easy it is to fall into a rut thinking, there isn't enough, time, money, talent etc., to start that something that crossed your mind. You know what I'm talking about. The passing thought of, oh, that would be cool if I could, or, that would be so much fun, if only I had the talent. Here's the thing, you thought it. It's YOURS. Own it, whatever that may be.
How? Truth is, I don't have a formulaic golden answer for you, but I am hoping to bring you some creative inspiration to get you started with the stories that I will share. My guests read aloud their personal account of when they changed career paths, or made other decisions that lead them to creating a life they love. I'm am also going to share prompts of 'Creativeinpso' along the way.
In my experience, the craziest, most insane decisions happen in just mere seconds. Yes it can be terrifying, and you won't have all the answers right away but the other side is sooo worth it. You are worth it and Courage is there to help you as soon as you're ready.
Subscribe to #Creativeinspo, Seconds to Courage, wherever you listen to podcasts. I can't wait for you to see all your possibilities!!

Melanie Shields, Change your mind and do it scared.
This episode highlights how no matter what age you are, it’s important to listen to your inner voice when you feel uninspired. This can look like dreading going to work the next day, or having anxiety at work.
Melanie shares how you can overcome this with small steps by starting with doing things that you enjoy.
My Favourite Melanie quotes: “I find it really encouraging that there are people out there who make career changes of life changes of any kind so late in their life..there’s always time, you’re out of time when your dead. I can change my mind any time I want to and that’s really encouraging.”
“I went through the whole phase of oh this is the universe telling me I shouldn’t do this, or I’m being redirected in some way and I should do it as a hobby and jus leave it at that, but I found kind a surprising amount of success on Etsy..and just wanted to dive into doing it on my own to prove it to myself that was still interested in making this career change and this is the direction I wanted to go.”
“That year of pause and exploration of what am I interested in, is it cookies? is it bread? is it chocolate? is it this or that? Just did nothing but cement the idea that this is exactly what I want to do.”
“Do it scared, don’t wait till you’re ready, you’ll never be ready, especially if you’re an anxious person”
“Look at my eyes when I talk about it, the things that light you up like this don’t ignore it, it’s not to be ignored.”

Creativeinspo Message #6: Try, Try Again
Creativeinspo Message #6 is, Try, Try Again. This is for everyone who has experienced failure, in any capacity.
I touch on three ways you can find the confidence to get up and try again and apply it to your creative journey.
I talk about a personal experience I had and also, in regards to being a new mom, yes that’s happening soon!!! I know I can apply these things in those moments when I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing as well. When maybe perhaps, I might feel like a failure.
After all it’s about growing,
And learning,
Discovering new layers of yourself.
Enjoy the journey that is life.
Try again! I believe in you!!

Lori Laskowsky, How to make your Inner Artist Thrive
This week's guest is Lori Laskowsky, a visual artist who paints pictures of dreamy beach fronts, cozy homes, adorable pet portraits and more! But it wasn't always like that, having been through the toughest of times in her life, Lori sought out solitary serene walks to clear her mind and find motivation. This eventually led to her channeling the courage she needed to put herself out there, offering up her artistic talents, and the world is better for it!
If you've struggled with the term starving artist, or felt shy to call yourself an artist, Lori's story will inspire you to find your voice to DO YOUR THING!!
My Favourite Lori Quotes:
"It was a tough time, but I guess I knew had to do something to change something"
"When it got to point where it was really difficult, I would just give up and say, well I'm not good at this...but believing, alright, if you do the hard part you'll get it eventually, it doesn't have to be perfect at first."
"I didn't actually want the people in my life to see my art, because they are going to think I am crazy for this"
"It's just doing, just do it, if you don't love it, just do it again, try to make it the best you can, instead of sitting back and saying it's too hard."
"If you don't believe in yourself then who else can believe in you..if I do have that belief then I can do anything."

Creativeinspo Message #5: If not you, who?
Some of my favourite quotes:
Mary Oliver:
Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
Oprah:
Your passion leads you to your purpose.
These are great reflections as this week I chat about why you should absolutely DO. THE. THING. that you've thought about.
When you think things have been done,
it's a saturated market,
that you're too late.
No one can do it the way you do it.
So please know that out of 1 in 4 trillion chances, you were made. You have a purpose. Only you can answer the questions as to what it is.
So please GO. DO.

Creativeinspo Message #4: Break
Creativeinspo Message #4 is Break.
In a world of pushing out content, keeping busy, hustling, there is the inevitable time(s) that comes when a "Break" has to happen for you. Time to take to unwind for your body, soul, mind.
When we are "in flow" and striving to achieve deadlines, taking a break seems counterproductive but sometimes it's out of our hands. Am I right??
In this solo episode, I chat about what unexpected breaks look like and how you can work through them, even if it means breaking the momentum you finally had.
I also have a verrrrry special announcement!!!

Creativeinpso Message #3: Tell Your Story
Creativeinspo Message #3: TELL YOUR STORY
That's write! WRITE it down.
Whether you are already doing what you love or just starting to follow what makes you happy, start at the heart of why you are doing what you do. It's important to remember this because at times when you feel doubt, when said 'ego' gets in the way, defining your story will help you stay aligned with your purpose.
This week I share my talk from the Creative Abundance Leadership Forum, hosted by our own guest, Clarissa Castillo-Ramsey. My topic was Story(TELL)ing, The importance of storytelling. I share my journey of quitting my 9-5 , what I did to give me the courage to do so, to where I am today.
Thank you so much for listening!! As with all Solo Episodes I've included a worksheet attached with some key questions and takeaways into writing out your story.

Jackie Amsden, How to find your voice (again) by having fun and building community.
In this week's episode I chat with Jackie Amsden, this girl is funnnnny, and she has a pretty fantastic story. As a teenage model who got to work and travel in Asia, she was able to turn her adventures into a novel. From what I learned through Jackie's story, the most important thing to remember is, outside validation can only go so far. Until you can truly fulfill what is lacking inwards, it is only then when one can build their voice authentically, and have a good time doing so!
Jackie Amsden is a mum, indie YA author and podcast host living in Port Moody, BC. These Mums Write is about helping mums achieve their writing goals and dreams.
My Favourite Jackie quotes:
"I’m still waking up..I’m just starting to do that, before you thought there was nothing, then you start to see things that were always there, but you couldn’t see them before and that’s the really exciting thing thats happening now."
(On social media) "It's just about you showing up and sharing who you are and being authentically curious about other people and it starts to build that way."
"You do the writing in your head that’s part of the process, so even if you don’t have time, but you’re still thinking about the ideas, they’re simmering, that’s writing too."
Thank you for listening!

Creativeinspo Message 2: Self Love
For Valentine's Month the Creativeinspo message #3: SELF-LOVE.
What does it mean? What are the benefits of self love? I go over how you can activate the feel good hormones: Endorphins, Dopamine, Seratonine, Oxytocin and how can you cultivate a meaningful self practice love.
It's important to recognize you must put in effort to achieve a happier, healthier state of mind and it's not a matter of ignoring or being immune to bad feelings.
One of the most important reminders as well is, when things feel a little too hard, too sad, too much. Recognize your feelings, honour them and forgive yourself. Remind yourself no feeling is final. Above all else when in this state, just breathe. This can be the greatest form of self love.
I share a snippet of a song I wrote that speaks to this annnnd I sing it--TERRIFYING!!! But the message is there to pass on so, hope you enjoy it!
Thank you so much for listening!!

Susie Miles, Intentional change for a life you love.
This week’s episode is with Susie Miles, if you ever needed to look for inspiration on how and why you should leave a job that’s no longer serving you, listen to this episode!
Susie not only breaks it down how she did it, but shares the dreams she’s going for, after leaving a well established career. It’s not too late to start again, remember it’s not starting from scratch, and, it’s the only start that matters, to living an intentional life you love.
My Favourite Susie quotes:
"Even if fear is in front of me, I have no choice, I gotta knock it down, I just have no choice BUT to knock it down."
“No one is coming-and I think a part of me thought someone was gonna come, that someone was going to led me to where I had to go, to get out of the little prison I was in, the self imposed prison of course.”
"I was just getting impatient with myself, and I just came to a point and I’m like, I gotta do it, I just gotta do it and if I fail, well, I'll learn from that failure and I’ll just move on."
"Before you leave your job if you start making connections..start planting the seed early on, so it’s not as if you’ll be sort of bereft the moment you leave your job, you’ll have something either kind of waiting or something that you’ll be involved in, and I think that’s really helpful."
Susie's Bio:
Susie Miles lives in Northern Virginia and has for the past 25 years. She’s married, has two children, who are now in college, and a goldendoodle named Henry. Susie has worked in television throughout her career and but recently decided to leave the industry to pursue a new career in podcasting. She’s had a life long love of cooking and is currently developing her own podcast ‘Cooking and Convos’ which will be available in February 2022. Through the podcast, she’s hoping to inspire others to get in the kitchen to discover how they can easily prepare a good meal with simple ingredients, that won’t take a lot of time. She wants to show people they can love and appreciate the process of cooking without feeling burdened by it and that they also can look forward to the gift of a good meal at the end of the day. Susie has also written a children’s book this year ‘My Friend, the Light’ which had been in her heart for the past 20 years and is now available online at Amazon, Walmart and Barnes and Noble. It’s about a small boy and the love of his nightlight, which makes him feel safe (like a friend) throughout the night. She’s in the process of writing her 2nd book in the ‘My Friend’ series.

Anna Tsui, Shadow Magic teacher. How to work with your shadows befriend them and use them to create a life you love.
We talk about the challenges of being a successful asian women business leader, in a male dominated society, and how things are changing. The importance of sharing your voice, even when you are uncomfortable, and how, when you see your shadows come up, befriend them. You become stronger and it is through this work, you can create a life that feels purposeful, and ultimately feel empowered to help others feel/do the same.
My Favourite Anna quotes:
"I could feel my life before my eyes and if I want to do something, then I should do something now and not make any excuses."
"The more that you can sit in that discomfort, and make it work for you, you’re going to find that you have these intangible qualities, that’s the reason they hired you in the first place, it’s the reason why people enjoy working with you...You’re going to have to force yourself to see the whole package of you as a person-you’re a really compassionate person, you're a fun person to be with, you're a non-judgmental person. We all need to know these intangible parts of you."
“When we work on the speaking muscle, we also work on the receiving muscle…when we advocate for ourselves, when we ask for what we need, we also then need to learn I need to receive that all the support that is coming, or all the compliments, or whatever it is.”
"When I was getting to know my own shadows, I realized that it was actually really powerful, and this part of me isn’t meant to be killed, it’s actually meant to build a relationship, cause It can help me with connecting with other people who have the same shadows. It helps me with compassion, helps me to have a different perspective on certain things, that other people might not have, because they didn’t kinda go full circle on their healing journey."
"If anything, I want people to plan for self-sabatoge, which is a shadow showing up and saying, uh uh you want to do this risky thing? You’re not doing it, cause it’s scary, and then we self sabotage ourselves, we get sick or we get overly busy or whatever. Any time we take a risk, plan for it and build a relationship with our shadow so we are not sabotaging ourselves all the time."
"When a shadow show ups it’s a really good sign that you’re growing it’s a really good sign that you are taking risk and shadows almost always comes up to be healed."

Gina Clark, left brain analytic creative with a soul of a poet.
This week's guest is Gina Clark. She talks about how and why it's so important to reconnect with yourself creatively, while being a mom, a wife and wearing alll the hats. It might take decades to realize what you need to do, but if in your day-to-day motions of life, if you are feeling any sort of lack, a void and uninspired, these are signs that you need to FILL. YOUR. CUP. This is definitely different for everyone, but it can be starting as simply as Gina did, with saying goodnight at littler earlier to her family and spending half and hour reading before bed. Gina was able to turn her creativity curiosity into a meaningful career change. She founded Gina Clark Creative, supporting people as a creativity coach as well as exploring her love of arts through watercolour.
My favourite Gina quotes:
"I think how we stay young at heart is by being curious and by learning and there’s no end to that."
"If you don’t take care of yourself you can’t take care of anybody else, when you crash you are not good to anybody."
"Taking that extra 5min to yourself you are going to be a better mom, a better partner."
"5min a day, daliy-ish exercise, it’s usually the starting that’s the harder part but then momentum takes over."
"Just go make something small and crappy, it’s gonna get you creating."

(Solo Episode 2) 3 ways to RESIST the urge to DO and find ease in the process of REST.
Hello friends! This week's episode is just me and you. This kicks off the first episode where I am going to give you creative prompts in order to answer this question, How can I resist the urge to constantly do, be productive, be on the go-go-go and not feel guilty about taking time for ourselves.
But trust me. there is a method to the what we think is the madness, of unapologetic rest.
I share ways that helped me find moments to take a pause from work to see and respond honestly yes, this is the work that I want to be doing, or no, I need to change direction.
How talking a rest can actually give you more energy to get things done.
Here are my three tips:
Tip#1 ~Notice how you feel. Take stock and listen to what your body is telling you.
Tip#2 ~Look at your situation from a bird's eye view. Track your point A (where you are) to point B (where you think you want to be) and make sure you pre-plot in your rest stops along the way. For your day-to-day it can be a 15-30min dance or meditation. If it's over the course of a month, what day(s) can you take for yourself? What would fulfill you with absolute energized peace. Peace that fills your entire body. Ahhh..le sigh.
Tip#3 ~Be ***productively unproductive REST. FULL STOP. PERIOD. Put away social media!! Have compassion for yourself when you want to do absolutely nothing. There’s guilt and shame and attached thoughts of laziness when we don’t have the energy to do anything. BUT please, I’m not your MOMMA but I’m going to preach to you, give yourself permission to REST.
In these moments rest can ultimately lead you to heart centred peace!
Thank you for listening. I appreciate YOU!

Meltem Algan, Wellness Journey to Welcomely. How she worked through an alcohol addiction and how she persevered beyond.
My favourite Meltem quotes:
“On May 19th 2020, I decided to get sober."
"There is one thing that is really standing In the way of me being a) happy b) productive and c) healthy and it is alcohol and if I cut alcohol on its own and just abstain from alcohol that’s not gonna cut it. There is an underlying issue here and I have to put myself into a program, I need to work on my physical and mental health."
"I had to reprogram my brain into thinking look, you were not operating at your best, heres' a program that is introducing a new way of life and a new way of thinking, you need to be open to it..once I was able to open my mind to it, I found different ways to form my own understanding of spirituality and spiritual connection."
“Your inability to sit still, to not check out for 5-10min is a good indicator that you might be using something as a crutch to keep the noise level up around you..when you start trying to control your check out method, there might be a reason you are holding on to that try and seek even free guidance at first."
(on meditation) "10min of just resetting your mind, of pure clarity..changes the course of your day."

This week’s guest is Émely Steegstra-Hendrix.
This story is the epitome of following what fulfills you in every which way, especially when you are faced with a serious illness. The energy you get from following your passion can truly heal you from the inside out.
Émely has a long family legacy of female chefs. It wasn’t until she was faced with her own health challenges, that she became determined to find a way of growing her own vegetables while enjoying urban living.
Émely is the founder of Easy Urban Gardening-system, specifically designed for raised beds or containers on balconies and terraces in town, to help city dwellers enjoy fresh harvested vegetables without the exhaustive work. Of course combined with inspiration and guidance on how to turn those veggies in delicious, fresh home-made meals. She now passes on her family legacy in food, cooking, flavour combinations and fresh ingredients.
My favourite Émely quotes:
"Being unhappy in a job and frustrated of not being able to fully bloom, and fully contribute with all the talents that I have, was kinda necessary for me to realize that there was this other thing in life, which is called food and cooking..that was my passion, that was meant for me to do."
"Gardening is way broader than just healthy greens on your plate."

Pauline Busson, Love's Guide. How she found her calling as a sex, love and pleasure activist for women, after being a humanitarian and a yoga teacher.
My Favourite Pauline quotes are:
"It’s so important, getting awareness with our emotions..so much violence and hurt is happening because we are not aware of what’s going on inside our body and we are acting on it, we are reacting to it."
"For women (pleasure) is one of the ways to get to know yourself, to get to know what you like and don’t like , to find contact with your life force energy, your sensuality, with this very powerful force that you have, that is not only here to make babies but can help you become more creative, be more confident, be more grounded.
"Sexual pleasure, meditation or breath work are three different ways to get in the zone and access deeper parts of you."
"(Pleasure) It’s another pathway to go deeper and change those messages, about worthiness, self-love, conditioning, all the things we want to release, being in that moment is a beautiful, very powerful state to change that and plant new seeds"

"My value in this world exists not because of what I do, but simply because of what I am."
"I know there is no real destination, it's just the journey and if you stay present to every moment, every emotion, every whisper and pay attention to what does excites your spirit, you will ultimately be led to expressing your purpose, to feeling fulfilled, and it's likely not gonna look like the way you had envisioned."
Thank you for your time! Thank you for your energy! I appreciate YOU!!
