Child Development and Education
By Daniel Wilder
I’m Daniel Wilder. I’ve met and taught children from around the world and listened to their stories. I’ve studied the research in developmental psychology and combined it with innovative thinkers from 6 continents. This is the podcast where I deliver the outcomes of that research to critique the way we raise children and light a new path forward. Teachers, parents, psychologists, and caregivers, join me to prepare the next generation by tuning in to the CDE Podcast.

Stages of Moral Development — Lawrence Kohlberg and Moral Progress
Aristotle once wrote, “I have gained this by philosophy: that I do without being commanded that which others do only from fear of the law.”
Important to note is: Kohlberg never summed up his research in a diagram. In terms of the first three stages in particular, various interpretations exist of his research. I believe that the views expressed here are the best interpretation utilizing correlative developmental psychology research and moral philosophy for clarification.

Transformations in Learning — Piaget’s Stages of Cognitive Development
We have a different perspective as adults than we had as children. psychologist Jean Piaget began one of the most sophisticated early studies of childhood perspectives and how they develop into adult perspectives. Contrary to the shiver many scientists will feel as they read this sentence, this research which later spawned the field of developmental psychology is actually a scientific investigation of the classical field in philosophy known as metaphysics. Join me in this 30 minute segment where I will explain the first 5+1 ‘simple’ stages of cognitive development studied by Piaget and his contemporaries. In the followup episode we will explore the relationships of cognitive development to moral development.

How do we Learn? — the 6 Styles of Learning shared by All Human Beings and their Psychology
In this episode, I discuss the 6 ‘vertical’ styles of learning which bear on childhood education. The 6 vertical styles are also stages, as the vertical stages are universal to human beings and develop in a pattern of increasing complexity. The vertical styles are distinct from ‘horizontal’ learning style models like multiple intelligence theory and personality typing theory, which are not discussed in this episode. Vertical learning styles has been a key subject of psychological research for some time from Pavlov to Piaget. Join us, subscribe, and continue the discussion in the comments.

What is the best way to discipline a child?
Children are primarily experiencing the world “hypnotically”, an experience correlate to delta- and theta-brainwave frequencies. ‘From the child’s perspective, the mom’s punishment came out of nowhere. He is wandering through the world and during this dreamlike wandering, something begins to hurt him.’ Is it best to incentivize good behavior, punish bad behavior, or can we implement a values-focused approach that circumvents this dilemma altogether?
