The Waggledance Podcast
By Dave Courteen
A preacher, a leader and a designer who want to explore ways to live life with a little less friction.
Why Waggledance?
It’s a dance performed in the hive by bees to pass on information to thrive, how to find pollen or a place to call home.
There’s no dancing here though thankfully, just three guys foraging for insights to inform our life choices; a hive of conversation waxing lyrical on faith, family and friendship.
We'd love you to join in

A Personal Manifesto For A Post-COVID World - I Want To Be More Intentional About My Faith
Following 3 lockdowns and all those Covid related restrictions, people are now saying, “We just want to get back to normal”. Really? Normal? Don’t you want something better than normal? Let's be honest, normal wasn’t really working. Doing life normally meant people in the UK ended up with over busy schedules, broken relationships and extreme money stress. All this was normal pre covid. So in the last episode in this series of the Waggledance podcast Dave, Andy & Duncan ‘go public’ on their personal manifesto’s for life beyond covid.
When it comes to the hard times we face (like global pandemics and national lockdowns) they don’t create a strong inner life - they just reveal what's already there. In the same way our bodies need physical training then maybe we could all do with some spiritual training too. For the last time in this series the boys eat a guilt infested, Duncan created, Nigella inspired pud as they talk about their intention to pay more attention to whats going on inside.
A Personal Manifesto For A Post- COVID World - I Want To Work Smarter Not Harder
It's time for our boys reveal some secrets to the Waggle Nation. So Dave, Andy & Duncan ‘go public’ on their personal manifesto’s for life a better than normal life beyond covid.
When it comes to our work Covid has changed everything, right. From job loses to home working (and home schooling!) You might not have any control over your work situation right now but you do have control over your attitude towards it. Maybe that’s a smart place to start working? Sat once again around a shiny metal topped reclaimed kitchen table, the boys enjoy a meal fit for royalty cooked on Andy’s Aga as they talk about smarter ways of future working that they hope will bring them significance more than success.
A Personal Manifesto For A Post-COVID World - I Want to Keep A Healthy Lifestyle

When it comes to losing that lockdown belly or overcoming the inner stress a global pandemic has caused, how do we create a positive sense of physical well being? It's got to be more than what you look like in the bathroom mirror, right? Sat together on wooden school chairs in Andy’s medieval country kitchen the boys feel guilty as they eat Duncan’s homemade cheesecake while they tell their lockdown secrets of what they’ve learnt about living a more healthy lifestyle.

The advertisers? (They’d love that job.) Sat in Andy’s back garden around a shaker style wrought iron garden table (crafted by Nepalese maidens) the boys eat succulent butchers burgers whilst telling their lockdown secrets of what they’ve learnt about knowing where their money is going.

The One Thing You Need To Know About Being A Great Bloke
Most of us men want to be as cool as Daniel Craig’s Bond but end up being more like Rowan Atkinson’s Jonny English. Being a man in the 21st Century is very confusing. What do a real men actually look like? Can big boys cry these days? Do we have to have huge biceps to impress the ladies? And what do women really want from a man? In this 'season finale' podcast we are talking 'mano-a-mano'. And it could get messy. Andy flexes his muscles online. Dave gives us his lofty view as the bloke at the top. Banksy & The Bible wraps up by showing us how our idea of manhood might be different from God’s idea.
ChrIstmas with the Waggledancers!
Christmas is going to be very different this year for Dave, Andy & Duncan. Their turkey will probably taste of hand sanitiser and they'll all get a face mask in their crackers. In this one-off Christmas episode of the podcast Dave will be finishing the Christmas sherry, Andy will be eating his body weight in mince pies and Duncan will be roasting his chestnuts on an open fire.
It's supposed to be ’the most wonderful time of the year’, right?
But is that their experience? What really goes on in their homes on Christmas Day?
Duncan wraps up with reminding us who is the ‘reason for the season.’ (Spoiler alert - its not who you might think!)
The One Thing You Need To Know About Being a Great Follower
It's not hard to find a book on being a great leader - the shelves of your local bookshop are weighed down with hundreds of them. It's a lot harder to find a book on being a great follower. Which is crazy because we all follow something. You are a dedicated follower whether it's fashion, football or all those fabulously expensive Apple products. So this podcast is perfectly designed with you in mind. In this episode Dave (a leader of hundreds of followers) gets very honest about what his personal journey following God. Andy dives deep into the subject of follower-ship and looks at what culture has to say about big brands and why we follow them. Finally Duncan wraps us up by suggesting a simple 2-word phrase that changed everything for him as a Jesus follower.
The One Thing You Need To Know About Being A Great Dad
You can work out what to do when a new computer goes wrong, there is even a 24hour help line... but no one gives you an instruction manual for a human being. Being a parent is hands down the toughest job in the world. Its moments of sheer joy laced with long periods of guilt and inadequacy. So if you are a dad (or a mum) who thinks they've failed then this podcast is for you. In this episode Dave (a dad of two teenage girls) talks personally about his 'Dad & Daughter Days' and reveals the contents of a card he wrote to his first born 4 days after she was born. Andy (a dad of a teenage boy) asks some gruesomely honest questions about we've learnt from our own dads. Finally Duncan (a dad with 3 lads) wraps us up by talking about the four big lessons he’s learned from 24 years of parental failure.
What is the One Thing You Need To Know About Being A Great Lover
This episode comes with a 18 certificate. Its not for the faint hearted. Three old geezers talking about their love lives. So make sure you’ve got your headphone in as you listen to this love pod. In this episode Dave gets up, close and personal as he talks candidly about how he and how wife overcame a huge hurdle to intimacy. Andy goes all google again and takes a deep dive into the world of love & sex (please don’t look at his internet search history!) Finally Duncan wraps us up by giving us three ways to become a great lover according to the steamy writings of a 3,000 year old lover. Intrigued?
The One Thing You Need To Know About Being A Great Boss
It's not hard to see that right now we have a problem of leadership in our world. So how do you become the kind leader people actually want to follow? Leadership must be about influence. So don’t go thinking you’re not leader. You influence more people than you might imagine both at home and at work. This podcast is for you. In this episode Dave (a leader of hundreds of employees) talks about what he learnt about leading by watching his father-in-law conduct an orchestra. Andy goes all google and looks at what the world around thinks about leaders - the good the bad and the ugly. Finally Duncan wraps us up by seeing what Donald Trump, Steve Jobs and Moses have in common.
The One Thing You Need To Know About Being A Great Friend
What does it take to be a really great friend? How many people can you really be a great friend to? In this episode, Duncan, Dave and Andy discuss what friendship is all about. Andy takes the lead with a quirky look at what friendship really means whilst Dave takes his "view from the top" on what is the DNA of building a deep friendship. Duncan then brings the podcast to a close with his delve into what the Bible teaches us about friendship. We think there is something for everyone to take from this discussion and we'd love you to join in with the waggledance conversation.
Introduction to the Waggledance Podcast
What's a waggledance?
Well it’s a dance performed in the hive by bees to pass on information to find water, how to find pollen or a place to call home. It's a dance to help others to thrive.
So the Waggledance podcast is three guys, Andy, Dave and Duncan, who have been meeting up at least once a month for years, just helping and supporting each other through life. They’ve been through the highs and lows that life throws at us – it’s it's like they’ve been doing the human equivalent of the waggledance for each other.
Now they thought they would share their conversations through this podcast and they would love you to join in.
The first series will explore the theme of “what’s the one thing you need to know." Six editions covering topics such as being a great friend; great boss; great lover; great Dad; great follower and great bloke.
So here is a little introduction to the Waggledance Podcast, a taster of what you might hear if you tune in.
The podcast launches on 16th November and we would love you to be part of it.
