Micronutrition - Vital for Thriving and Striving into your Nineties

Micronutrition - Vital for Thriving and Striving into your Nineties

Micronutrition is critical to KABOOMER livelihood. Yet, as KABOOMERs' birthday candles grow in number, their capacity and ability to absorb and replenish tiny "vita" elements and compounds diminish.  Further, each KABOOMER faces unique conditions - age, possible gluten intolerance, drug prescriptions - that can impact livelihood.  This podcast addresses three categories of available MicroNutrients - minerals, vitamins, and Phyto compounds.  Koach Dave highlights a few - including "the missing link of regeneration."  He cites an assertion by double-Nobel winner, Linus Pauling, that we can "trace every disease in man to a mineral deficiency."

Overviews of "Micro" absorption, replenishment, inhibitors, and enhancers are offered.  Koach Dave stresses both the importance of whole foods and "undercooking" Vitamin P(lant) foodstuffs to help with absorption. You should gain a comfort level of why Fitness professionals are often checking on clients' micro- (and macro)-nutrition. Be well!

Don't Go Down In Flames!

Don't Go Down In Flames!

Our bodily processes of inflammation are good and bad, pro and con,  or yin and yang. Our voluntary role in wellness and lifestyle can dramatically affect the chemical messaging seesaw that we ride daily.

Our 2020 global pandemic highlights cytokine storms as bodily OVER-reaction to an infectious disease.

Yet what about bodily inflammation and its role with NON-infectious diseases?

Listen to this IN FLAMES segment to appreciate what a delicate seesaw we ride.

And learn, or reinforce how voluntary actions we take can favorable balance anti-inflammatory cytokine messengers with those (mostly) bad PRO-inflammatory messengers in our cells.

Be well,

KABOOMER KOACH Dave

A Billion Dollar Bet - Lifespan vs Healthspan

A Billion Dollar Bet - Lifespan vs Healthspan

Our national and global demographics are shifting seismically to older and old. The oldest-old segment of global populations (85+ years of age) is growing in a non-linear fashion.  A Billion-Dollar Bet between researchers named Austad and Olshansky is over whether "average" life expectancies will reach ONE HUNDRED by the year 2050.  Your AK-67 podcaster is intrigued by this bet.

Yet I'm more concerned about Healthspan than Lifespan. About half of one's longevity is from nature - our inherited double helixes.  As a wellness advocate, I hope to promote simple yet hard chores and activities or habits of KABOOMERS to lessen demands on our national entitlements like Social Security and Medicare. Exercise over Drugs, for example.

Credible researchers at the Buck Institute and Salk Institute have identified geroprotection factors and exercise for healthspan extension.

Seminal articles in both Atlantic and New Yorker magazines are highlighted to bound this lifespan and healthspan duality.

Several wonderful books are commended for listeners:

  1. Bowers and Bowers' "Secrets of the World's Healthiest People"
  2. Buettner's "Blue Zones"
  3. Gratton and Scott's "The 100-Year Life - living and working in an age of longevity"
  4. Levitin's "Successful Aging"
  5. Tara's "The Secret Life of Fat"

Houston - we have a societal problem!

Let's move to live better as we live longer to address that costly problem!

Get your MBA on a road less traveled

Get your MBA on a road less traveled

Mind-Body Alignment [M B A] was consciously worked by Stoics in un-clothed Gymnasia 20 centuries ago.

       Just ask Seneca and Epictetus.

Our marvelous brains NEED Exercise for us to be happy, healthy and productive.

You will be well on a Frosty "road less traveled" when you sustain your happy hormones and physical capacity for both learning and physical activity.

Mindful exercise is an immunity booster for good times - and in bad - like now for our pandemic March/April Sadness.

Our Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett, shares his 5 not-so-easy pieces for MBAs.

Scientific American and other credible sources underscore indisputable facts that our human brains need exercise!

As 6 Russians learned in a 520(!) day experiment - if you DO NOT exercise - your cognitive skills decline.

      Wanna go to Mars?

Plus...

Jefferson Starship reminded each of us to "Feed your Head."

Morpheus advises you to get your 7 hours of restorative sleep, too!

KABOOMER Koach Dave offers serious and not-too-serious hacks to help you Feed your Head on your way to that MBA.

Enjoy, and by all means, text "WP40" to # 41259 to learn more.

Be well,

df

ps.  Robert Frost did have a sense of (droll) humor - honest!  My Uncle offered that our brain:

"starts working the moment you get up in the morning and does not stop working until you get into the office."

Now, there's one reason to work from home!
