A Name and Format Change
For reasons explained in the show, Adventures in Voiceover is now becoming Seriously VO and is also becoming a blog instead of a Podcast. This is the FINAL Podcast but the same content will live on as a blog. Available at http://davidjacobsvoiceover.com/blog
Celebrate Every Victory
The beginning Voiceover journey can be tough. One of the things that is helping me is to celebrate every victory, no matter how small. Each one is a critical component in building the craft which will eventually lead to your success.
Paint the Fence
A new, more positive perspective on the Valley of Despair. What Karate Kid has to do with Voiceover and I talk about acting and the Meisner technique.
The Valley of Despair
And now we enter into the Valley of Despair. This is the moment where you either break or breakthrough.
Fight the Good Fight
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. I have a new plan/commitment for the new year.
The Future
What is the future of this Podcast and of all my Podcasts? I don't have time for all of them, so decisions have to be made.
Dog Days of Fall
I always knew intellectually this was going to be hard, but this week the VO world shows me just how hard. My grit, tenacity and faith are being tested and I come to you, dear listener, in accountability. If you are a VO artist of someone else who thinks they may have something to add and you want to be part of an accountability group, email me at david@davidjacobsvoiceover.com. I think this will be a weekly Zoom call, hopefully less than 30min. Or if you just want to email encouragement, you can do that too!
The Hardest Part of the Journey
We now enter the toughest part of the journey so far. Trying to get that first booking. Persistence and tenacity is my strategy. If you want to help put me over the top and forever be ingrained in my story, contact me for an audition or a job.
Pay to Play, changing DAW's and CRM
What? I am entering the pay to play Voiceover market? Yes, but on my terms. And I change up my DAW and CRM.
The Rubber Hits the Road
Now that I have my commercial demo, the rubber hits the road as I start my direct marketing attack. I also lock down the next phase of my coaching.
A Face for Radio
I finally locked down the domain name for the Voiceover business. This week, I venture into video marketing, even though I have a face for radio. God help us all. Instagram.com/davidajacobs.
Cracking the Code of Acting for Voiceover
I need a good acting coach who can help me crack the code of acting for Voiceover.
Nailed It! Kind of...
I make some changes to my studio config and nail a reading on Clubhouse. Then I don't so much nail another reading on Clubhouse. It's only a matter of time is my mantra.
The Other Side of VO, the Business Side
I have been focusing on the business side of my Voiceover business this past week, including a new website design. Note: Twice I say the name of my website wrong (doh!). It is http://davidjacobsvoice.com not plural.
A Big Day, Demo Day
A huge day in my VO career. Recorded my first pro demo. This Podcast also has new title and a new graphic, in case you didn't see.
A New Perspective on Audiobooks
Next Steps for my Voiceover Career
I am finishing up phase one of my Voiceover training. What is my next move?
Gear!
Are you a gear head? Today we nerd out about Voiceover gear.
Voiceover is Acting! Oh, no!
I didn't expect to have to act when I entered Voiceover. But it turns out, you do. So I have accepted that and oh my, I'm an actor now!
Sleep Apnea CPAP Machine Crisis
Millions of people have the Phillips Respironics CPAP machine for their sleep apnea. These machines have been recalled due to foam particles degrading and getting into the tubes as well as off-gassing cancer-causing fumes. Phillips has handled this recall badly, putting patients who need this therapy in a terrible position. I am one of these patients and I share with you exactly what is going on.
My Big Career Change
I lost my job in digital marketing, so I am going all-in on a career in Voiceover. Does that make sense or am I crazy? Find out!
