At the age of 16 he was sentenced to life in prison for murder, not long after that he was also charged with a murder behind bars. This weekend I attended a family violence conference with over 150 men from around New Zealand. Phil Paikea, Vic Tamati and the safe man safe family team are an organisation that travels New Zealand spreading hope and awareness about family and sexual violence.

Brenda shares her story of surviving a Maori "self-improvement programme" endorsed by Te Unga Waka marae in Auckland. The programme is run by social workers who claim to be "tohunga." The Maori equivalent to a healer or witch doctor.
After being abused and treated like a slave by the tohunga she escaped and now wants to help those still being abused.
