2023 is already being touted as the year that video game adaptions are taken seriously, even when the adaption isn't meant to be serious. In comes the Super Mario Bros. movie spearheaded by the polished animation of Illumination Studios and the controversial casting of its voice talent. Having grown up in love with Nintendo's games and then subsequently "breaking up" with them in recent years over their anti-consumer practices, I feel quite adept to deliver a fair and non-bias take on what's likely the first of the Nintendo Cinmatic Universe.

My first Day 1 release of the year, and its a remake of a game I'm in the minority of not really liking: Resident Evil 4. However, since I've been adiment that if they could blend the gameplay and feel of the RE2 remake with Leon's visit to Spain and the lore behind Las Plagas....we might have a winner. Got a little busy toward the end of the month but I finally got around to recording my top 5 favorite video games I played in 2022!! Its been 84 years...or at least its felt like it, since the first Avatar released and promise of sequels were made by filmmaker James Cameron. Now, the tech has advanced to fulfill Cameron's vision for the franchise and the land of Pandora carries on. But even over a decade since my criticism of the first films story and character development, it looks like not much has progressed outside of the VFX tech.

Ragnarök has come to an end for me after 40 hours, and I can certainly say this is a game worth thinking about, talking about, and break down in the most introspective way. No spoilers will be revealed here, and though I can't compare it directly to Elden Ring since I haven't played it yet, I can definitely say its the Godfather Part II of the gaming industry thus far. However, that might not mean what you think...

Phase 4 of the MCU comes to a close with a somber and poignant turn as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever serves as both a touching tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman while also cementing Wakanda's powerful importance in the big picture of the Marvel Universe. However, its second act remembers to be a Marvel movie as well, proving the film to fall short of the height its processor was naturally able to achieve. Here's my review of Wakanda Forever with a spoiler segment at the end.

Coming out of my podcasting hiatus for the exact reason I was itching for: a damn quality video game. After heavy deliberation for the past week, I decided to take action on what I was referring to in regards to the future of the podcast and the logistics of creating it. Funny enough, it looks like I wasn't the only one making a definitive decision this week, as tech giant Google finally and predictably is pulling the plug on their Stadia game streaming service. The lifelong battle between creative and business decisions loomed large over the content world this past week, as Twitch announced a 50/50 split with partners, anger the majority of their community in the process, while Youtube announced new forms of monetization. Are we facing a monopoly within the content creation space? Those decisions may have bled into the comic book movie world, as Deadpool 3 is confirmed for a 2024 release along with the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine....but is this really what we want? Also, my reviews for She-Hulk once more, why Andor should be your next Star Wars show, even if you did hate Obi-Wan and my reaction to the Last of Us HBO show trailer.

Despite not intending it so, we have another thicc episode about one of the thiccest video game leaks in recent memory, including a rather thicc-looking protagonist. Severe apologies for the late episode; the one-two punch combo of a ton of new announcements and reveals for movies and games this week, along with my dad being on vacation, triggering the whole fam to not only be home but also be LOUD throughout the the house, made it incredibly difficult to record. Finally, I got the episode wrapped and ready to go. The titans of gaming, Sony and Nintendo, brought us a Direct and State of Play on the SAME DAY, at the last minute to boot. This week marks one year since the launch of the DarkspiderCast, and to celebrate, we have....a rather tame episode. However, I like to call it the calm before the storm, as my spidey senses are tingling at the thought of the long-rumoured Sony Playstation showcase and Nintendo Direct peering over the horizon--and that's already on top of the confirmed D23 expo stuff, the Disney+Marvel Games showcase (which has already gone down at the time this goes up) and Ubisoft's Forward presentation. In an ironic twist, despite feeling alot better to bring you a more, full-length episode, it turns out what me and the girlfriend thought was a cold was the "It Which Should Not Be Named" virus, so at the time of recording, we are in isolation. I was getting scared that this week's episode was going to be pushed considering the things that's been going on at home as well as me and the girlfriend's anniversary trip out of town. Every time Rockstar makes a game, let alone release any kind of marketing on that game, it becomes an event for all of social media to talk about it, from both gamers and non-gamers alike. However, its difficult to internalize and envelope-pushing title like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 to be made in the current social climate. Is this a legitimate concern stemming from the recent leaks surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI's development? Its about that time to start a new season of the DarkspiderCast!! To close the fourth season of the podcast, I finally check in on what is in the current running for my Game of the Year contenders, which may not spark so much debate seeing that I'm the only one who has not played Elden Ring, yet. Its downloaded on the Xbox; its just a matter of scheduling to get to it. I also look ahead to what games I plan on playing for the remainder of the year and give a preliminary review on what could be in many's GOTY discussions: Sifu. WARNING, mild trigger warning for the intro this week. To quote a DC movie, "The night is darkest just before the dawn..." and the penultimate episode to Season 4 of the DarkspiderCast somewhat reflects that. Not only do I get a little personal during the intro in a potentially dark way, but we also get into the a fatiguing aspect of the MCU after the releases of Thor: Love and Thunder and the Ms. Marvel season finale. I'm sooo glad I waited an extra day to record this week's episode otherwise I couldn't go BOOOOOYYYY, and rejoice in the God of War: Ragnarok having an official release date. However, it may have come at the cost of having another game being essentially bullied out of being released this year and delayed into 2023. Also, to make up for once again no new Ms. Marvel reviews this week due to some scheduling conflicts, I got reviews for Tell Me Why, partial impressions on Fable II, and a lightning round of other gaming news stories.

What I was fearing would be a slow and uneventful week ended up building enough material to talk about on a movie and gaming centric episode. First, we finally tackle that Obi-Wan finale and what I see as Ms. Marvel's first, mildly weaker episode; me and the girlfriend saw some movies so I got some reviews (or rants, depending on how you see it) of Jurassic World: Dominion and Lightyear. Though we have yet to get any concrete updates and release date of God of War Ragnarok, Nintendo was able to bring one for the Mario + Rabbids sequel via this weeks Nintendo Direct Mini and Focus and Asobo finally revealed the launch date and some gameplay for one of my Day 1 releases later this year, A Plague Tale: Requiem.

As what was dubbed as Not-E3 starts to wind down to a close, Square Enix decided to cap it off with one last thing, at the same time that Capcom tries to scrape for attention on the the future of the Dragon's Dogma series. Also, reviews for Episode 2 of Ms. Marvel and Part V of Obi-Wan Kenobi. I understand new episodes for both of the series, namely the finale for the latter, are already out but due to scheduling issues, I'll have to give me reviews on those next week. As far as the gaming backlog, I've faced what I can only call an existential gaming crisis this week as I tried to play Weird West and resorted to play Battlefield Hardline instead.

Apologies for the slight delay in this week's episode but I've been busy with content, interviews and trying to organize how I'm going to tackle all the gaming showcases and events, specifically Summer Games Fest, the Xbox + Bethesda showcase and Capcom Showcase, which are essentially making up what many are referring to as "Not-E3". Despite the misgivings of last week's changes happening here in the home, I'm back and I'll try to make a better cycle to get these podcasts up and running, especially when Non-E3 week in underway and delivering the good. Sony took the helm this year in ushering in the good news with their unexpectedly dope State of Play last week and I'm here to tell you how it resembles a gourmet 5-course meal of gaming greatness. It looks like this week's episode consists more or reviews rather than news, as we got two hot new trailers to talk about, which dropped on the same day: Thor: Love and Thunder, featuring Christian Bale's Gorr and Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1. Wow, those are a lot of colons. The former of which generated a discourse online of whether Marvel Studios should slow down on these projects to give their artists more time to work on the effects, especially after the debate made by the She-Hulk trailer. I also got reviews and impressions for Ghostwire: Tokyo, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and the closed beta of Multiverse. In the news, we have an alternate timeline in which XBOX would've made the definitive Spider-Man game and Marvel's Midnight Suns may be seeing the light of day very soon.

Playstation finally gave us a peek into the list of games offered through their revamped PS Plus services and its a great value....if you've never owned a Playstation console. Sorry about the delay for the new season's first episode, but I'm still working out the kinks for equalizing the new mic! I've returned with a new season and several multiversal movies and shows were seen since the last time we spoke so I'm hear to drop some thoughts on Moon Knight, Doctor Strange and Everything Everywhere All at Once. Nevertheless, this is the Season Finale of the DarkspiderCast, and with it, I bring further and possible final impressions of the Steam Deck, my time with Dying Light 2 so far and my take on Elon Musk buying Twitter. We also cover the delays that rocked my corner of pop culture, including Across the Spider-Verse, the Super Mario Movie, God of War seemingly still coming out this year (for now) and set dates for Playstation's New PS Plus service. As with past seasons, I'll be taking a week off from the podcast and come back, reenergized in two weeks with Season 4!

First of all, apologies for there not being an episode last week. The combination of being sick with persistent coughs and sniffles every five minutes and the lack of news outside of the new Kingdom Hearts games announced prompted me to take the week off. With that said, I'm back, though with yet another belated yet giant episode to make up for that lost time. As mentioned, I give my feelings, or lack thereof, toward the revealed Kingdom Hearts IV, quick reviews on Moon Knight and the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, and my first impressions on Valve's little engine that might, the Steam Deck!

I was afriad this week would be light on movie and gaming news but the announcements of a new Tomb Raider, Max Payne 1 and 2 getting remade and E3 being cancelled saw to that not being the case. I also break down how I'm planning on reviewing Moon Knight going forward, purchasing my set of Doctor Strange 2 tickets, and wondering where my Steam Deck order emails is at?

Whew, well its definitely been a week in the industry, right? Obviously, most of us are aware of the infamous "Slap" at the Oscars and I take the beginning of the episode to comment on that as well as pay respects to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. There's also been a twist with my playthrough of Triangle Strategy, the inevitable delay of Breath of the Wild 2 has been confirmed, and Playstation announced their new PS Plus subscription service. Is it really a true competitor to Gamepass?

I'm back from my trip out of town with the GF and we both sat down and watched the Playstation State of Play showcasing a gameplay deep-dive into Hogwarts Legacy. There was quite a bit to unpack, but can it all do enough to make the Wizarding World in gaming magical again despite the controversial elephant in the room? I can, however, tell you about one magical thing that happened to the Youtube channel over that weekend, as well as thoughts on Suicide Squad's delay, a new Witcher game from CDPR and Playstation moving in on live service gaming.

Surprising no one, Rockstar has brought GTA V to next gen consoles with upgraded visuals and performance. However, we should've known better that they along with parent company Take Two would make said upgrades free and simple to understand. But does it really matter? Most will buy it anyway, right? Also, I cover the XBOX Indie Showcase, Perfect Dark's development hell and my truly FINAL thoughts on Horizon Forbidden West.
