Episode 48: From Attraction to Film - The Jungle Cruise!

It’s your boys Dave and Mike returning to your ear holes with a new episode of The Add More Mouse podcast! We interrupt our Disney Documentaries miniseries to revisit and update one of earliest series that looked at Disney attractions that were made into movies. With the new Jungle Cruise film finally hitting Disney+ this month, we felt the need to dive in. We look at the Easter eggs that point to the longtime attraction, and we discuss our opinion on the movie’s ranking in the Disney attraction-to-film pantheon. We also try to unravel the ridiculously complicated plot of this film that is about a whole lot more than just cruising the jungle. Email us at addmoremouse@gmail.com, and tell a friend about the show!

Hello there! Dave and Mike are back to talk about the next film in their Disney Documentaries series: Walt and El Grupo! This film centers on the pivotal 1941 goodwill trip Walt Disney went on with a team of artists to gather info for animated films based in South America. Spoiler alert: it’s a delight! Before that, the gents talk way too long about how to acquire Disney toys from McDonald’s, the magic and wonder of the Disney+ cartoon Bluey, and Muppet Haunted Mansion.

Episode 42: Luca and the Difference Between Major and Minor Pixar

Woah! Hi there and welcome to the Add More Mouse podcast, the only Disney podcast hosted by Mike and Dave! We were supposed to start our new miniseries on Disney Documentaries, but with the release of the newest Pixar movie LUCA, Dave and Mike are in a Pixar mood. What the boys expected to be a quick and easy conversation became one of the longest episodes yet. Listen and thrill to the sounds of two grown men giving their reviews of Luca, and then go through the entire 25+ year of Pixar movies to determined which films qualify as “Major Pixar” and which go into the “Minor” category. If you have been waiting for us to talk for 90 minutes about cartoons, this episode is for you! Email the show at addmoremouse@gmail.com!

Episode 39: Iron Will - Fact and Fiction

Dave and Mike are back with the second episode of their “Fact and Fiction” miniseries which looks at some of Disney’s movies that were “based on a true story” to determine just how close (or far) from reality they were. This time we’re looking at one of Dave’s childhood favorites: Iron Will! Ever wanted to know about dog sledding and whether it’s cinematic portrayal is realistic or not? No? Well too bad, baby, because that’s what we’re talking about! We did some research, and we’ll give you all the facts you never knew you wanted to know about the 1917 Red River Dogsled Contest. Honestly I can’t even remember if that’s the right name of the race, but I’m tired. The boys also talk about their upcoming trip to the parks. Enjoy!

Episode 38: Disney’s Pocahontas - Fact and Fiction

Episode 38: Disney’s Pocahontas - Fact and Fiction

Oh snap! It’s the Add More Mouse podcast and we’re starting a brand new miniseries! Since the beginning of the Disney company, the storytellers there have often looked to real events and people to base projects on, such as Davey Crocket, any of the 100 sports movies Disney has put out, or all the way back to Walt’s own project True-Life Adventures. But in Hollywood, real events often do not follow a traditional film’s three act structure, so writers and directors change the real stories in order to make them “more cinematic,” often while giving the audience a skewed idea of what really happened. We start our “Fact and Fiction” miniseries with 1995’s Pocahontas, the 33rd Animated Classic released by the studio. Your hosts dig into the burning questions audiences might have after seeing this film: Was Pocahontas real? Was her best friend a hummingbird? Did trees talk to people a few hundred years ago? The answers may (not) surprise you!

Episode 37: Favorite things to do at Walt Disney World that aren’t rides!

Well, it’s still winter time, and your hosts Dave and Mike both live in Ohio where it is cold, snowy, icy, windy, and grey...so what better time to sit down and fantasize about hanging out at Walt Disney World? On this episode of the Add More Mouse podcast, your hosts each pick three things they love to do when they’re at the parks with the caveat that these are not attractions or rides. Mike’s take place in the parks, and Dave’s take place outside of the parks, and honestly we don’t know if this will help you plan your next trip, we were just desperate to talk about warm weather activities. It did the trick and brightened our spirits, so here’s hoping it works for you, too!

Episode 36 with Special Guest Matt Parrish from The 3028 Podcast!!

Oh man, this is a good one! On today’s episode Dave interviews legendary Disney podcaster Matt Parrish of The 3028 and Wedway Radio shows! What? It’s like we’re a real podcast! The two discuss the early days of podcasting, changes in the Disney parks over the years, and compare the Covid-19 era to the time period immediately following 9/11, an era in the parks that Matt is very familiar with. Before that Mike and Dave kick it off with some random topics and check in on their Disney New Year’s resolutions. We hope you love listening to this episode as much as we did making it! Episode 33: Interview with WDW Cast Member Karen Shriner

Hello and welcome back to The Add More Mouse podcast! Oh man, this is a big one! Dave interviews Karen Shriner, a professional singer and actor who has worked as a Cast Member for both Walt Disney World and the Disney Cruise Line for over 14 years. In honor of the holiday season, they discuss Karen’s history of performing for Disney at the holidays, including her role in the annual Candlelight Processional. Dave also asks tons of questions about how she keeps her voice in shape when she’s singing all day everyday, and they discuss some of the Disney magic Karen has gotten to see up close. They also touch on the state of the parks in 2020 and the role live performance must continue to play in the future as the world plans to rebound from the global pandemic. Don’t worry, we will have Karen back to hear more stories, but for now we hope you enjoy this peek backstage!

Episode 32: Belle’s Enchanted Christmas

Episode 32: Belle’s Enchanted Christmas

It’s Christmas! Almost! In order to try to block out the end of this legendarily garbage year, Dave and Mike are focusing on Disney holiday topics for the whole month of December. In this episode, the boys close out their miniseries looking at Disney sequels and segue into whatever holiday magic they can scrounge from what remains of 2020 by looking at the first sequel to the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast - which happens to be an entry into Disney’s secular Christmas canon. Is it good? Why is the villain the only CGI character? Why is chip’s mom so old? Is this Tim Curry’s greatest performance? Have we lost our minds? We must be, since we originally uploaded a version that wasn’t finished being edited! We’re professionals!

Episode 31: Sigh......Cars 2

Episode 31: Sigh......Cars 2

Hi. Welcome to the Add More Mouse podcast. Dave and Mike love Disney stuff. They are doing a miniseries on Disney sequels. For this episode, they decided to discuss Cars 2. They have questions. So many questions. The most important of which is: how do you make a sequel to a story about small town pride and courage in the face of uncertainty? You add machine guns, explosions, torture and death, and voila: you get Cars 2.

Disney Bombs #3: John Carter

Oh hi! We’re back with a new entry in our tiny “Disney Bombs” miniseries with a look at the colossal 2012 box office catastrophe John Carter! Though we lay our early on that we are not here just to pile on “bad movies,” we have a lot of questions about this one, such as: Who is mad at who? Is John Carter’s only special power the ability to jump really high? Where is anyone in relation to anyone else? Also, what on Earth is everyone talking about? Is half this movie in a made up language? Anyways, we also touch on some Disney Park news and fall down some rabbit holes like we always do. Hope you dig it!

Disney Bombs 2: The Rocketeer

Disney Bombs 2: The Rocketeer

Mike and Dave are back! Again! For the like the 25th time!

The boys are continuing their miniseries covering Disney films that bombed at the box office, but this is no "bad movie podcast." Mike and Dave are watching these movies that underperformed while in movie theaters to gain some new insight as to what went wrong. Are they actually bad? Were they ahead of their time? Were they mis-marketed? Are they hidden gems worth rediscovering, or should you skip them altogether?

This week they focus on the poorly received (yet seemingly adored in cult film circles) film The Rocketeer. Is it good? Is it bad? Were audiences right to stay away, or did they miss out on something truly cool that could have spawned sequels and a toy line? And why is the diner the Rocketeer hangs out in shaped like a dog's mouth?

Before all that, the boys discuss the recently released to Disney+ musical event Hamilton. Listening to the thrilling tales of your hosts' roles in various high school musicals (spoiler alert: Mike played Nathan Detroit and Dave played "guy with newspaper." Enjoy!

Disney Bombs #1: The Black Cauldron

Disney Bombs #1: The Black Cauldron

Dave and Mike are back with the first episode in a 4 part miniseries delving into Disney Bombs. Did you that the Disney company doesn’t always just print money? They make mistakes sometimes! But we’re not interested in making fun of bad movies (well...we sort of do that). We’re taking a look at Disney movies that failed at the box office and try to figure out why. Were they really bad movies? Was the marketing wrong? Or are they good films that simply didn’t connect with an audience? In this episode we dig into The Black Cauldron, a Disney animated classic that no one really likes except Roger Ebert. Why do the characters look so weird? Why is the opening narration so brutal? Why are this magic pig’s powers so lame? Listen and find out why this film is actually a crucially important film in the Disney catalogue and may have set the course for the ensuing decades of Disney success. Also: our hottest takes on the just-announced Splash Mountain re-theme!

Blackish, The Middle and George Lopez: The Conclusion to the Disney Sitcom-Visit Mega Series!!

Blackish, The Middle and George Lopez: The Conclusion to the Disney Sitcom-Visit Mega Series!!

My goodness! Here it is, the epically sleepy conclusion to our seemingly never ending mega series that looked into every tv sitcom that has taken a trip to a Disney park. Did you ever think we would finish it? We were so ready to be done that we crammed 3 episode reviews into one podcast, woohoo!

Join us, Mike and Dave, as we finish out the miniseries that began way back in the winter time and finally finishes up in the beginning of summer. We've all been through a lot during that time, and though a Disney-related podcast may seem extra frivolous during these heady days, hopefully our obsessing over  ridiculous things helps you focus on something fun for an hour!

And listen for the end, as we preview our next mini-series looking into Disney Bombs!

Modern Family Went to DisneyLand, Too

Modern Family Went to DisneyLand, Too

OH WOW!  We're back!  Yes, Michael and I are still here, still alive, and still talking about ridiculous things.

We originally did a whole episode about our individual experiences through quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic, and then Zoom ate the audio file. In retrospect, that was probably for the best, because we were RUSTY. Now we're back again for the first time, talking about the tv episode that changed the world: the time Modern Family went to Disneyland. Ok, it didn't change the world, or much of anything. But we watched it, because we are committed to finishing this mini-series that has dragged on and on and on and on (and on).

The audio is a little wonky thanks to recording in a socially distant way, but we decided mediocre sounding content was better than no content. Hope you enjoy it as much as we liked making it.
