The Metabolism of Mythology and the Breaking of Spells: a conversation with Tad Hargrave

DDO has a conversation with the roaming bard, Tad Hargrave.
We went in DEEP on the power of story, Gaelic, grief, love, living into our names and the labouring rebirth of culture.

“When you have no kinship, all you get is identity.”

We could have talked all day.

About Tad Hargrave: Since 2000, Tad found himself drawn to
conversations about what became of his animist Scottish ancestors that
they become ‘white’ and ‘modern’. Between Sept 2004 – Feb 2006, Tad
dedicated himself to learning his ancestral language, Scottish Gaelic,
in both Nova Scotia and Scotland. He can speak Gaelic with
conversational fluency. He also runs a blog called Healing from
Whiteness as well having run, for a while, as a Facebook group of the
same name. He is a co-founder of the Nova Scotia Gael’s Jam and
co-starred in Canada’s second Gaelic language film The Fiddler’s Reel.
Tad was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta (traditionally known, in
the local indigenous language of the Cree, as Amiskwaciy (Beaver Hill)
and later Amiskwaciwaskihegan (Beaver Hill House) and his ancestors
come primarily from Scotland with some from Ukraine as well. He is
drawn to conversations around politics, history, ancestry, healing and
how it all came to be.

She takes a systemic lens to assist couples and individuals with sex and relationships and is currently training in sex therapy and childhood trauma work. She also has extensive knowledge and experience in addictions, narcissistic abuse, and recovery from codependency. Marissa started the first online support group in Western Canada for women that are trying to heal from being in narcissistically abusive relationships. After over a year of holding meetings, the group now has several hundred members that meet online from all over North America.

Marissa also co-hosts a YouTube channel called “Fancy Lady Talks” that covers topics related to healthy dating, sex, relationships and recovery from codependency. She runs online courses to teach people how to date in a healthier way and hopes to spread the word about “slow dating” and healthy love. When she is not involved in learning and teaching about love, sex and relationships, Marissa loves riding her motorcycle really fast, speaking Italian (badly) and spending time in nature.
