Medical Marvel
Surprise!
Wayne has emergency surgery and we have a surprise sponsor! Hear about Wayne's terrible 2024, the "5 C's of Credit", the worst-case scenario of using YouTube for a public performance. We also talk some "Dad Stuff" so Apple Podcast reviewer Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeznuts27 will be very disappointed.
Note: The weight of our awesomeness and arrogance began to show in segment two where the recording gets a little wonky. Stick with it, it only lasts a couple minutes and gets better (that's what she said).
Going It Alone
OMG what's wrong with your face?! That's a topic of conversation. We also talk about how our kids are getting to the age we were when we started getting into trouble, Mitch's un-flappable sense of duty, and our advice to the next generation of would-be business owners.
Mitch's Inner Monologue
It's been too long! Join us as we catch up after a long hiatus. In this week's episode, we learn all about disappointment, major awards, 17 more things that piss off Mitch, the Oxford comma, and what life would be like without an inner monologue.
Brock Purdy Stan
(Better late than never!)
Wayne recounts yet another instance of general stupidity, Aaron gets caught up with music references from 2006 and Greta gets a new gig!
Vox Populi
Wayne ends his term on city council and Aaron and Mitch both speak at the meeting as a very hot topic brings a full house. Wayne's farewell speech makes him a legend (in his own mind). Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We appreciate you more than you know!
Sutherland Cyclops
Wayne involuntarily goes "gluten-free", Aaron tries to be cool and fails (again), and Mitch tries to relive a piece of his history when he goes back to New Orleans and looks for the "one place that the youth pastor took us to accidentally".
Tribute - Sponsored by The Chicken Ranch & Dr. Boer
It's not the greatest podcast in the world, it's just a tribute. We discuss trying to give dating advice to the new generation, Mitch shares Wyatt's secrets, Aaron gives the weekly Ezra update and Ava learns a new word. Spread the word!
Bulldog Brothel - Sponsored By 14 Spice
Chef Justin Berning of Brady's Pub fame stops by to talk about the essential ingredient that makes his food elite! While he's here we talk about growing up in MN and how he had nothing to do with the great Budd'z fire! So stop asking! Aaron finds himself in a fiery situation of his own, and we sample some vintage MD 20/20 (IFYKYK).
Sponsorships and beer fund donations are open! venmo.com/u/dbapod
Theatre Of Theft - Sponsored By Bird Seed (no, seriously)
Please help, we're thirsty folk: https://venmo.com/u/dbapod
It's harvest time and in honor of that, we go extra wide (much easier to accomplish for us than going extra long)! We talk about Aaron's field day and how not everyone is keen on his profession. We react to Wayne's official non-running for the city council. Mitch gets grossed out by the unclean and we get into a lively argument on how people who call instead of text are WRONG (or not, if you are Mitch). Happy Harvest!
Old School Chicken - Sponsored By The Doon Blueberries
Help keep us lubricated! https://www.venmo.com/u/dbapod
Doon Blueberries > Todd's Turf Care
Summer comes to an end with a scorcher as Aaron works to keep everyone cool. We learn that Mitch hates Saved By The Bell, which might be his worst take yet. Wayne gets more lessons on "Dutchdom" and the Alons family deals with a medical scare.
Wearing My Wife's Muggsy Bogues Jersey - Sponsored By Todd's Turf Care
Mitch the banker is FINALLY done with his endless vacation, so now we can get back to our very serious work of podcasting. In this extra-long, extra-necessary episode, we tackle life's most pressing issues: concession line etiquette (because that's what the world needs), Asa's immovable opinions on mission trips, and Aaron and Mitch recap their vacation follies. Wayne shares some TI-83 games that no one asked for, and Aaron rants about today's sponsor, Todd's Turf Care, and how much he hates them (but will gladly accept their money).
Want to sponsor an episode? For just $75, you can Venmo us at @dbapod. Or, if you want to make things really interesting, send $50 plus a case of beer (our true motivation). Either way, we'll probably mention your name or something. Hurry, this golden opportunity won't last forever!
The Confident Idiot - Sponsored by Crouch Construction of Primghar
It's all Mitch's fault that this episode took so long, just remember that! We talk about Wayne's eventful trip to the Black Hills, Aaron gets even more crotchety but finds his faith restored in at least ONE youth, and Mitch tries to pilot a philosophical conversation about dumbassery along with attempting to say nice things about the city. Your feedback is wanted! E-mail info@dbapod.com
Tow of Shame
In this episode, we dive into the listener e-mail bag and find that we have been referenced in a high school chemistry class. Aaron takes a beating from the shade thrown at the western side of Sioux County, Mitch (forcibly) contemplates a city council run, and Wayne's idiotic golf cart saga comes to an unsurprising end. Sponsorships are available - email info@dbapod.com for more information or to tell us how you've referenced us in your child's education!
Rats!
Our apologies to Andy and our fellow farm friends for getting this out so late, Mitch had to skip his suppers and a podcast to make sure you are fed. Be sure to thank him for his sacrifice when you see him.
Anyways...
In this super-sized episode, we discuss the various obligations a father must fulfill when having daughters and whether it's cool to pretend like you don't like it. Aaron tries to prove to his kids that he was cool once by unearthing his old basketball card collection which had the unfortunate side-effect of unearthing some prom pictures long since forgotten. Mitch decries the title of hobby farmer and challenges Wayne's legitimacy. Finally, in a shocking tale, Aaron describes how a recent Sunday featured two surprise guests. One that brings joy, and one that makes Mitch lose any respect for Aaron.
Flopsweat
The trio is back after a very eventful couple of weeks! Wayne travels to Ames and talks business development with city leaders all while dealing with a very embarrassing (and very visible) issue. The guys discuss the bud light controversy, vacation requests, Wayne tries to trick his wife into organization, and Mitch tells us about his "almost" Al Bundy moment on the football field.
Mike's Day In Court
In our 70th episode, after constant references and mischaracterizations, Mike Vogel finally gets his voice heard. We talk about what we were supposedly "wrong" about, raising daughters, NASCAR, and Wayne's 40th birthday. Also, Mike shares the story of the time he hit a train. Yes, you read that correctly. He HIT the train. You can't make it up!
Sgt. Kurtz & Banana Hammocks
In the 69th installment of the pod, we catch up with an old friend. Sergeant Vince Kurtz of the Iowa State Patrol stops by for a chat as we relive our radio days! We also hear about how Aaron's poor planning is coming back to bite him (again), Mitch accuses Wayne and Aaron of killing home shows in Northwest Iowa, Aaron ditches out on Wayne's 40th birthday for wealthier friends, and we unveil the sponsor for the 70th episode!
Sponsorships are still available, hit us up on the socials. All it costs is $50 and a 12-pack of beer. Because we are classy like that!
Aaron's Sorry Problem
Aarons got a problem with being sorry. Not the actual act of being sorry, but the idea of grown men saying it? We talk about being high school basketball parents and refs, the things Asa has to do to gain weight, reading from the 'Book of Andy Girffith', Wayne "what-if's" his life as he gets nostalgic about the sale of his former radio station, and we discuss what the appropriate ages/situations are where a man can hug another man! Show sponsorships are available - contact within!
Infamous and Anonymous
The 67th installment of the DBA podcast is brought to you by "Infamous and Anonymous of Rock Valley". We discuss Sheldon politics (sorry Eric), what Mitch was like with hair, tales of good fortune for our families, and Aaron chronicles his journey from "seasoning his children with disappointment" to "showering his children with cash".
New and Improved Formula - Featuring 100% Fewer Poop Jokes!
The boys clean up their act ahead of Christmas at the urging of Aaron's in-laws. In Mitch's editorial debut, the guys talk about Aaron's fad diet, Wayne's return to radio, Aaron's "idiotic generosity", unequal friend levels, and Wayne's horse pills. Also, Wayne's 'radio silence', Wayne's shi%$@ taste in movies...are we noticing a theme?
Payday Is Friday, Don't Eat Finger Foods
Our thanks to the Grasman family for bringing you show #65 of Dutch by Association! In this episode, we talk about all of the great things that Grand Rapids, Michigan has brought to us. Aaron talks about his time as a wedding emcee, we discuss the transition from radio to podcast life, Mitch calls out his biggest "hater", and Aaron's son Asa throws some SERIOUS shade on his Sheldon classmates!
Second Rate Westerner
In this pre-Thanksgiving episode, we hear about Mitch and Wayne's trip to a banquet where Wayne "accidentally" bought 10 trees. Aaron is still trying to figure out how to deal with the hurricane-like ball of fury that is Ezra after meeting for conferences. The guys give Wayne tips on raising office morale (which includes not poisoning them), and halfway through the episode, Greta breaks the garage door...again.
Splitting Lotteries With The Lord
DBA is back in XXL form (both figuratively and literally as Aaron likes to point out). In this beefed-up broadcast, we discuss report cards, voting, beards, fat-shaming, lottery tickets, auctions, and more!
Mr. Cucumber
This podcast started off innocently enough. We talked about the awkwardness of what happened in the last episode, politics, religion, and all of the other heady topics we typically cover. Then the party is crashed by Mitch's wife and son! Wyatt spills family secrets and gives us a glimpse of what Mitch is like as a father, much to Mitch's chagrin.
Mad World
Show 62 brings us a recap of our busy last couple of weeks! Wayne takes his wife on a romantic getaway to Denver just so he could see a concert, Rob Sand comes to town, the guys share their fatherly advice, and there's something in the air that puts everyone in a bad mood...
Sheldon, The Pawnee of NWest Iowa
Sorry for the delay, apparently Labor Day also meant that Wayne isn't doing any podcast editing. Not like he has a real job anyway 🙄. In this episode, we ask the question, what is quintessentially 'Sheldon'? We take a trip back in time where we talk time capsules, Mitch's redneck Driver's Ed course, and Chuck Grassley. Aaron loses his mind at a local restaurant when a young lady openly rejects the steak that her suitor paid for, we create a psychological profile on Mitch after his recent angry outbursts and we toy with (and quickly reject) the idea of doing a video podcast!
Christ is coming soon, go ahead and eat the breadsticks!
In this episode, we talk meat and we talk beefs. We get the origin story of the culinary abomination known as "Spaghetti-O Hotdish", Aaron's nervousness when it comes to choosing restaurants, Mitch gets laughed at by a bunch of goth kids and vows revenge, Wayne accuses his wife of mishearing him when he said to cook the steak in the crock pot, and Wayne and Mitch go toe-to-toe and talk all sorts of trash!
I Can See For (Marlboro) Miles And Miles
The gang starts with some startling news after the property tax statements come out. Wayne tries to justify Sheldon's failed Franchise Fee initiative which prompts a "healthy debate". From there, we go back in time as the guys share secrets from their childhood that help to explain a few things. Aaron champions Universal Grain Care/Obama-Feed, there is a random power outage, and Mitch finds an unlikely ally in Aaron's mom.
The Mitch is BACK!
Mitch has a lot of problems with you people, and you're going to hear about it! The elder Giese comes ready with list-in-hand to refute the claims made by his brother, Aar-bear. In addition to Mitch being annoyed by everyone, we discuss weddings! Wedding traditions, plans for our next weddings, and how Aaron tried to rush his wife out of a recent wedding dance JUST in time to slow dance with a bridesmaid! Hilarity and flop-sweat ensue!
Not so fast, Mitchy-poo!
It's been too long...and since Mitch is too busy fulfilling his role as Clark Griswald in "Family Vacation," we needed a fill-in! We figured, if we can't get Mitch, let's give his brother Aar-bear his day in court! Join us as we discuss growing up in the "shadow of greatness" as Aar-bear seeks to set the record straight about his role in the Giese hierarchy!
Walk a mile in my slides, Aar-bear!
You can tell we haven't been together in a while, this episode is over two hours long! In today's episode, we get a disturbing and telling glimpse into Mitch's childhood that explains why he is the man he is today. Aaron gets all sappy about his boy growing up and tries unsuccessfully to hide the fact that he actually has emotions. We recap Aaron's visit with State Auditor Rob Sand and learn about Rob's conversations with Sheldon's finest conspiracy theorists at the local breakfast spot. And we hear about the coddling and babying of the elder Giese's favorite son, Aar-bear. A fact that doesn't bother Mitch at all...🙄
How Have I Wronged You Today
Wayne is back from "graduation" with a new attitude. The guys are understandably skeptical. Mitch takes over coaching little league and encounters some of the "fun" that comes with dealing with parents. Aaron's son finds himself in some hot water after uttering a word (THE word) he says he learned from his brothers. And for you conspiracy theorists out there, we talk about the connotations of having the "wrong last name" when it comes to local sports teams and just who is being recruited by Aaron's alma mater.
Butts Up
The guys spend the nicest day of the week INDOORS to bring you episode 53! We talk about the Tulip Festival vs. St. Patricks Day, things you can say about a cow that you can't say about a woman, a childhood game that sheds light as to why Wayne is the way he is, Aaron being a cool kid (pause for laughter), and Mitch "Tiny Tanks" Giese puts Aaron in his place!
Mitch Giese - The Rat-Tailed Vigilante of Justice
Back just in time for the drive to Grandma's for Easter! We take a deep dive into Mitch's past! We learn about Mitch's flamingo bathroom poses, his specific brand of vigilante justice, and learn about the....interesting....hairstyles that have accompanied him along the way. We also address an Easter Egg Hunt controversy, high school track at a pack a day, and Aaron teaches a Sunday School lesson that NOBODY will soon forget!
Muscular Neck Syndrome - 50th Episode
Back from spring break we jump right in and discuss Wayne's farming advice, crimes against butter-braids, shrinking stadium seats, Wayne's body that is actively trying to kill itself, and rejoice in the fact that we've made it 50 episodes! We managed to do something consistently for over 50 hours! Now if only we had this kind of dedication to the gym...
Freedom Onion Soup
After extended hiatus, DBA returns to learn about Mitch bringing Ham Soup to a chili cookoff (and being confused as to why he didn't win), Aaron breaks down the Super Bowl halftime show from a Dutch perspective and Wayne goes to school for the first time in 20 years.
The Nebraska of Podcasts
In the 48th installment, we try to set up Justin Rust, managing editor of the Review, with our good friend Laura. We cover Mitch's neuroses, Wayne discovers the fate of the Vikings head coach pick live on air, Wayne and Aaron collaborate on writing Mitch's "20 under 40" nomination for the newspaper, and Mitch finally has enough of Wayne's stance on Millenials. A fight ensues. Aaron keeps pouring the gasoline.
Always Mediocre All Of The Time
The roadmap of this episode looks like a drunken Lewis and Clark expedition! We cover COVID beer judging, staffing woe's, Mitch's Legoland adventure (which leads to our new logo), Texas Roadhouse (because Aaron), pranking calling William Hung, the Ghost of Budd-Z's, and how DBA listenership is akin to Sunday at Waddy's: No one from Sioux County admits they go there, but they all have fun together when they do!
Low Rent Hooters
In our SUPER-sized episode, we touch on a number of topics: sick workers, explaining the podcast to clergy, fattening up Asa, our advice for fine dining, Wayne's newfound lake life, and how stupid small-town rumors almost tanked one of our favorite spots!
Dutch By Association - Show 46 - Rebound Fish
In this episode we find out why there is no "Show 45" (Spoiler: it's Laura's fault), Wayne gets accosted and sworn at in public because of his city council position, and the gang discusses some of their favorite holiday traditions which all revolve around alcohol (go figure).
Wayne's True Colors (Black and Blue)
Wayne's big show day comes and Mitch and Aaron give their reaction to the experience. Wayne also finds himself injured and stranded in Florida, and we talk about the last saving grace of our youth: Sports? It's a fun and sweaty time on this episode of DBA!
Lame-o Hangar
In this episode, we get a rare glimpse into Mitch's childhood and a revelation about his parents that begins to put things into perspective! Wayne makes a one-night-only return to the DJ booth, and Aaron tells kids not to dream. It's possible that he's just bitter that he got cut from Western's 9th-grade basketball team. We talk about the Northwest Iowa goodbye, robot umpires, the misery of the Minnesota sports fan, and Mitch finally has to answer to his bosses about the podcast.
Aaron's Festivus
On a very special, DBA: Aaron recounts a crazy tale of a true-crime drama seemingly brought to life! It has scandal, intrigue, HVAC, and some "bad luck" that seems VERY convenient. This episode is two months in the making, and now Aaron is ready to tell his story. Also, we give the listeners an update on our VERY eligible bachelorette and Wayne's benevolence!
The (Celery) Farmer's Daughter's Fever Dream
Following up on one of the strangest advertising requests we've ever had, we welcome Laura to the program! She's fun, sassy, and single...and thought this show would be as good of a place as any for a dating ad! Laura breaks down what it's like to be a single Dordt grad who did NOT finish with an MRS degree and explains to Wayne just what exactly a "hobby farm" is. During our conversation, we delve into horse drugs, manure smells, weight loss woes, and hills to die on. The power goes out mid-way through segment two, I guess it's up to you to find out whether it was an accident or divine intervention!
I'm Sorry (That You Feel That Way)
In our 40th episode, we learn that Mitch was wronged by a Carny at a vulnerable age, Wayne sticks both of his size 12EEE's in his mouth then does a "graceful" back-pedal, and we find out what happens on the Alons farm when Ezra has a BB gun and is not ready to go inside! Just remember, if any of this offends you we're sorry (that you feel that way). Remember, you can help the cause by Venmo: @dbapod
Don't Hate The Farmer, Hate The Game
Come one and all as we hear a tale of Aaron's cattle mismanagement that got an entire South Dakota town buzzing, we talk about the first day of school and how far we've come (well, physically anyway), and finally, Mitch challenges Wayne to what could be the slowest footrace of all time!
Also, we are trying something new on the pod! We are forgoing sponsorship on this episode to allow you, our faithful listeners a chance to contribute to the cause! Please help, the beer fridge just died! 😂
https://bit.ly/2XUusTL or Venmo @dbapod
Send The Bill To The City!
Vacation time is winding down and Mitch's job is starting up! We talk about time at Wisconsin Dells, Lambeau Field, how to fix the local housing situation, who should be responsible for all of Wayne's suffering, and how Aaron was "humbled" by his teenage son.
Righteousness and Jealousy
This episode is all about...JOBS! Some have them, some need them, and some of us are just not good at them! We talk about big changes happening with in the group, Aaron grabs his bull situation by the horns, and Sheldon City Council successfully slaughters the chicken issue. Also, Wayne's wife makes a surprise guest apperance!
Meat Shaming
Back from the holiday break we recap the July 4th festivities, we shame Mitch for being unpatriotic, Aaron becomes the thing he said he never would, and we hear a hilarious story about meat shaming. It's the wurst!
If Not Me Then Boo Who?
We figured with the long holiday weekend coming up, we would try to shoe-horn one more episode in! In episode 35 we discuss 4th of July holiday traditions, new pets, various ways that the government keeps getting in the way of Aaron's free money, we reminisce about some radio days gone by, and Wayne explains what his council experience has been like so far. (Editors note: this was recorded a week ago and I am just NOW getting around to posting it. SOME of us have to work yet! - Wayne)
