Radha Stirling talks Prime Minister Imran Khan with his closest advisor, Mr Zulfi Bujhari

Gulf in Justice host, Radha Stirling, interviews Mr Zulfi Bujhari, special advisor to Prime Minister Imran Khan, the “most popular PM in Pakistan’s history”.

Mr Bujhari explains what led to the ousting and subsequent persecution of PM Khan and his entire party, their families and allies.

Mr Buhhari fought to have a wrongful Interpol Red Notice against him removed.  He hopes that the higher legal courts in Pakistan will ultimately exonerate Mr Khan of the “falsified” legal cases against him in what is clearly a shocking example of the weaponization of a legal system against their political opponent, the democratically elected Imran Khan.

Bujhari says ousting the most popular Prime Minister has set the country back decades, and the international community and allies could have done more to influence justice and fairness in his country.

UK media’s unethical promotion of Dubai property market

“At this point, UK citizens who lose their money in the Dubai property market could not be blamed for holding British media outlets accountable, ethically if not legally,” says an exasperated Radha Stirling, founder and CEO of Detained in Dubai. She is reacting to the latest article in the UK press touting the UAE as a smart place to invest. “It is truly appalling that these promotional stories never include information about the huge risks involved in Dubai real estate, not to mention the overall dangers foreign nationals face in the UAE.

“My Iraq Prison Hell” - Scot jailed for Qatar bank debt angered by World Cup

“My Iraq Prison Hell” - Scot jailed for Qatar bank debt angered by World Cup

“My Iraq Prison Hell” - Brian Glendinning talks to Radha Stirling

After two months of prison hell, Brian opens up and he's angry at Qatar's "disgusting" World Cup.

Scottish construction engineer, Brian Glendinning was jailed in Iraq over a Qatar National Bank issued Interpol Red Notice for a small debt. After substantial diplomatic, media and strategic efforts of crisis manager Radha Stirling, Brian returned home to Scotland on Saturday.

“It brought a tear to my eye as I heard Brian’s worst moment in prison”, said extradition expert Radha Stirling, who hosts the Gulf in Justice Podcast “What Brian has been through is unimaginable. The way the guards mocked him, laughed at him, looted him and harassed his wife. The conditions in Iraqi jails are abysmal with the only positive being that Brian wasn’t tortured himself. He did however, witness the inhumane treatment of other prisoners and the scars of what he saw will remain with him for life.

“I am privileged to have been able to help this dear family who I have come to know. I’m grateful for their energy and dedication in supporting the campaign to free Brian.”

Brian told Ms Stirling that he is still unable to sleep well. Every time he closes his eyes, he sees the prison ceiling fans and hears the pained groans of fellow inmates.

Brian when he was first arrested.  This was the "nicer" prison:

Traumatised by his experience, Brian has vowed that he will never set foot in the Middle East again. He said he is sickened by the scenes of celebrations in Qatar as the World Cup continues. “It was Qatar that abuse Interpol’s databases and caused his detention in Iraq. They do this on a regular basis”, confirms Stirling. “We are working with Kenny MacAskill, MP and a number of concerned parliamentary groups to push the British government to safeguard citizens against further abuse. We simply can not have our strong allies and trade partners causing our citizens to be wrongfully detained abroad and at risk of violence or torture. It is unlawful and a violation of international law to report debt to Interpol. There are other civil means for them to recover credit card debts such as through the county court.

Brian said, “These countries are so corrupt. All they care about is money and being the wealthiest - Qatar in particular. That country has put me through hell. The fact the World Cup has been allowed to be held there is sickening. I'm refusing to watch it.”

5 year old son abducted to Oman: Child abduction and the Middle East

Radha Stirling talks to French mother Maud Quinault whose son was abducted by his father and unlawfully removed to Oman, despite the parents having a French joint custody order.  Oman is not a signatory to the Hague Convention against   Maud says "My name is Maud Quinault, my son and I are french, he is 5 years old and has been abducted by his father in Oman, middle-east. While the father was supposed to take fahad-Louis, our son to Disney land in Paris as we had a shared custody in France, he rented a car to drive to Madrid where the Omani ambassador issued a laissé passé allowing him to fly to Oman from Madrid, against the french court order.  My baby boy has been teared apart from his mother, unlawfully and used as a tool by his father to seek revenge and to destroy me because I have decided a few years back to put an end to my husband’s daily physical and verbal abuse, so I left him.  This is a clear breech of human rights but parental abduction is legal in Oman.  I am indeed devastated and my pain is indescribable. My heart is shattered and I feel soulless.  My baby boy and I have been separated since the 17th of April 2022, more than 4 months.  the father is refusing to give me any information about Fahad-Louis, when he his sick for example or even in which school he enrolled him.  I am asking for financial help as the legal fees are very costly and my fight will intensify as September approaches..  Thank you so much for your constant support, I am forever grateful".

BBC 5 Live - Billy Hood Appeal with Radha Stirling and Breda Guckion - Detained in Dubai over CBD

BBC 5 Live - Billy Hood Appeal with Radha Stirling and Breda Guckion - Detained in Dubai over CBD

1 December 2021:  ITV Report:  A British football coach handed a 25-year sentence in a Dubai prison after being found with four bottles of CBD vape oil has had his sentenced reduced to 10 years on appeal.  Billy Hood, 25, from Kensington, London, was arrested shortly after moving to the county in January this year after being found with four small bottles of CBD vape oil in his car.  The liquid - which is legal in the UK - contains trace elements of THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis, which is illegal in the United Arab Emirates.  Dubai authorities took a signed confession from the football coach, but the 24-year-old said he was coerced into agreeing to the document - which was also written in Arabic, a language he cannot speak, read or write. As a result, Mr Hood was charged with trafficking the oil and given a far harsher punishment than expected.  But, earlier this week, his case was brought in front of an Abu Dhabi appeal court, which recognised that he had "unintentionally possessed" the drugs but had no intent to supply them.  His term was subsequently reduced by 15 years.  On Wednesday, his mother said the sentence reduction "is not really welcomed" because her son "has done nothing wrong".  "We thought yesterday that we were going to find out that Billy was going to be able to come home," she told BBC Breakfast.  "He has been told that the charges have been dropped against him and yet he is still there for another 10 years. It is heart-breaking, absolutely heart-breaking."  Family of Londoner jailed in Dubai face six week wait for vape oil appeal Campaigners have welcomed the reduction but claim that it is still far too high, as they say there was no evidence of trafficking or selling.  Radha Stirling, chief executive of Detained in Dubai, a group which is lobbying for Mr Hood's release, said: "The UAE has just claimed they will eliminate prison sentences for foreigners found to be in possession of THC products, opting for deportation instead but this law does not come into effect until January 2022 and may not apply retroactively."  In October, while speaking to ITV News, Mr Hood's mother, Breda Guckion, and uncle, David, received a call from him, as he described the poor conditions in his prison and said he still doesn’t have a mattress after a week inside.  “The conditions here are shocking, I still haven’t got a mattress after seven days of being moved in... I’ve got literally 15 or 20 seconds, it’s going to cut out,” he said.  “We all love you and we’re never giving up on you, never, ever,” Ms Guckion said to him.  “We’re all being punished, every single day, we’re doing life with him. The only thing is he’s in hell and we’re not,” she added.

BBC Breakfast Show: Billy Hood Appeal with Radha Stirling, mother Breda and brother Alex

A football coach who was jailed in Dubai after four bottles of vape liquid containing cannabis oil were found in his car has had his sentence reduced.  Billy Hood, 24, claims he was forced to sign a confession written in Arabic despite not speaking the language.  He was originally jailed for 25 years but had his sentence reduced to 10 years at an Abu Dhabi court on Tuesday, campaign group Detained in Dubai said.

Detained in Dubai chief executive Radha Stirling said Mr Hood was "forced to confess to federal crimes with promises of his imminent release". "He was given both a carrot and a stick, so some prosecutor could get his dues. It's all too familiar a story," she said.  "Dubai's overzealous prosecution has ruined this young man's life and put him and his family through hell."

Detained in Dubai: The Scammer’s Gold Mine - Romance Scams - Social Catfish Podcast with Radha Stirling

Detained in Dubai: The Scammer’s Gold Mine — Romance Scams— Socialcatfish.com   The first contact was Radha Stirling, a lawyer based out of London. She specializes in getting westerners out of prison in Dubai when they are wrongfully detained. Her position has put her on the front lines in the war against these scams. Radha regularly sees people losing millions of dollars from these exact types of situations.  She gave us insights into Yvette’s case as well as informed us about how stopping this billion-dollar international scam industry is going on her end. Dealing with a potentially corrupt system that is facilitating these scams isn’t helping her help these victims, but that hasn’t stopped her from pushing on.    As we were conducting the interview, the situation intensified. Yvette was distraught. Every day, Charles was texting her from his dark and cold jail cell. Alone, hungry, and contemplating suicide. Yvette was on the verge of sending him $75,000. Our search specialist was able to talk her out of it just long enough for us to gather enough information to close this case.  Radha let us know that Charles could not possibly be sitting in a jail in Dubai. There could be no case number found at the US embassy, and none of the legal aspects of his story made any sense. Although Dubai’s legal system was not squeaky clean, it certainly was not holding a US special forces soldier hostage and texting his terrified significant other for Ransom.  #DetainedinDubai #RomanceScams #catfish #dubai #UAE

Albert Can You Hear Us? - Song written for Albert Douglas by State of Flo

State of Flo produced a song dedicated to the #FreeAlbert campaign.  Albert has been locked up in Dubai for more than nine months.  He was beaten in Al Ain prison by guards and is now scheduled for multiple surgeries in Dubai to mend his broken bones.  His family have called on Sheikh Mohammed, the Dubai ruler, to allow him to return home to the UK to undergo medical treatment.

Albert was arrested for bounced cheques but forensics have since proved they were not his.  He has also been cleared of parallel civil cases, essentially exonerating him from the original criminal cases.

Billy Hood to remain in prison for further six weeks says Abu Dhabi court

Billy Hood to remain in prison for further six weeks says Abu Dhabi court Detained in Dubai CEO, Radha Stirling, has confirmed in a Gulf in Justice Podcast announcement that Billy Hood will need to report to court on the 30th of November.  “The court is now in possession of damning documents that show Dubai police have basically manufactured a case against Billy. This is not the first time and if the British government doesn’t insist things change in the UAE, it won’t be the last”, said Ms Stirling.  “Billy has already spent a horrendous nine months in a Dubai jail notorious for human rights violations after being forced to confess to serious crimes in Arabic. Adding yet another delay to his freedom and the review of his defence evidence is gutting to the family and to Billy. Every day an innocent man spends a day in prison is a travesty.  “Albert Douglas has been locked up for nine months too. He was forced to sign a confession and was beaten by police causing him to be hospitalised to repair his broken bones. Lee Bradley Brown was killed in police custody and yet the British FCDO has done nothing but trade deals. They are essentially complicit by remaining muted over these abuses.”  “The families of Billy Hood and Albert Douglas are calling for increased travel warnings and sanctions against the UAE while the EU parliament voted to boycott Dubai’s expo.  “The families have also appealed to Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum to review the evidence and help these men get home to their families”

American woman traumatised after Qatar Interpol Red Notice warrant

American woman traumatised after Qatar Interpol Red Notice warrant

“Qatar reminds me of the Eagles song, “Hotel California”.  In the beginning you think that you are in heaven but sooner than later you find yourself in the deepest pits of Hell”.

“I managed to survive divorce, death of loved ones, disability and being a single mom, but what QNB put me through sucked the life out of me, and broke me. I believe that the post-traumatic stress that I have faced as a result of this experience has changed my outlook on life. I will never be the same.”

A British national, John Nicholas was also wrongfully listed on Qatar's Interpol Red Notice database by Qatar National Bank for a small bank loan which Mr Nicholas had almost entirely discharged by the time he left Qatar. QNB added atrocious charges to try to escalate the claiming amount beyond Interpol's minimum 15,000 Euro threshold for a Red Notice.

“QNB and other Qatar based banks have been repeat abusers of Interpol’s Red Notice database,” said Radha Stirling, an expert witness, leading voice in the fight against ‘Interpol Abuse’ and founder of IPEX (Interpol & Extradition) Reform.  “It’s absurd that Qatar has been permitted by Interpol to use their database as a means to collect bank and credit card debts from foreign nationals.  Banks have pressured Qatari law enforcement to report even small debtors to Interpol, with a view to having them detained abroad and pressured to discharge credit cards and loans. This is clearly against INTERPOL’s charter and a violation of their membership agreement but Interpol would rather accept the donations from Middle Eastern countries and remain silent, than to punish them for abusing Interpol’s power and reputation.

“Alan Stevenson was detained in Prague on a frivolous notice and David Blackhouse was pulled from his car in Britain as though he were an international fugitive.

“Interpol has become a pay to play organisation, open to manipulation and abuse by countries with poor human rights records. Countries like the UAE, Saudi, Qatar, Bahrain, Iran, Turkey, Russia, Egypt and China have been able to use the crime tool for their own personal vendettas.

“Countries like Qatar and the UAE,  have used Interpol’s reach to extend their jurisdiction beyond their borders, causing the arrest, detention and prosecution abroad of many innocent victims. Innocent individuals have been listed on Interpol, arrested, detained and tried for “crimes'' that don’t even meet Interpol’s minimum reporting criteria. Journalists, activists, businessmen and credit card debtors have been locked up in Western nations at the mere request of countries who repeatedly take advantage of their membership with Interpol.

“We have managed to remove numerous Qatar issued arrest warrants for violating Interpol’s charter and it’s certainly time that Interpol themselves were legally held to account.

“Nancy has suffered greatly as a result of the wrongful red notice.  It is time US policy makers review Interpol’s sovereign immunity and promote the accountability of such powerful organisations.  Nancy’s name will be removed from Interpol’s database but she will not be compensated, she will not get an apology, and this will happen again and again until powerful countries recognise the damage a frivolous notice can cause”.

Distressing Dubai Prison Plea - Voice Recording

Distressing Dubai Prison Plea - Voice Recording

Calls on the UK to follow the European Parliament example and boycott Dubai Expo, over human rights concerns after British prisoner reports on beating and torture by Emirates guards.

Last week, London grandfather Albert Douglas was undergoing surgery in a Dubai hospital when CID agents entered his room, demanding he make a propaganda video thanking Sheikh Mohammed and the Dubai prison guards “or else”.

Albert reported the incident to the UK government who were declined access to visit him in the hospital after he refused to partake in the “media video”.  Albert has suffered a number of injuries after being beaten in prison by guards, raising the case of Lee Bradley Brown, who was killed by police in Bur Dubai police station a decade ago.

Talking to his son Wolfgang, Albert describes his horrifying detention in Dubai.

“The European Parliament voted to boycott Dubai’s Expo last week”, said Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai and host of the Gulf in Justice Podcast.  “Baroness Whitaker and Andy Slaughter, MP, have called on the UK to sanction the UAE and increase travel warnings to British nationals, citing the country as ‘unsafe’.  Albert’s case gives the UK every reason to demand his release and that the UAE take steps to make the country and judicial system fair and safe for visitors and expats”.

Radha Stirling Reveals Details of Princess Latifa Drama to RT

Radha Stirling Reveals Details of Princess Latifa Drama to RT

The inside story of Princess Latifa, who tried and failed to escape from her influential father. Radha Stirling, one of Latifa’s confidantes, tells RT about details of the drama and plans to file a legal case against the UAE in the American courts.

by Chris Sweeney is an author and columnist who has written for newspapers such as The Times, Daily Express, The Sun and Daily Record, along with several international-selling magazines.

Stirling believes Sheikh Mohammed has put in place a sophisticated media propaganda plan to control the narrative of the affair, and assure the world that all is fine now. If so, it’s working. This week, after the release of the Iceland picture, the Free Latifa campaign group – which Stirling and Jaubert broke with years ago – announced it was shutting down.

Jaubert, the former French intelligence officer, is adamant that all this is being staged and manipulated by Dubai. “It is difficult to reconcile that the woman who planned her escape for seven years and who recently released videos speaking of the pressure Dubai had bestowed upon her to agree to their ‘propaganda’ plan, is truly free,” he says. “I hope she is. In any event, she should never have been kidnapped from a US-flagged yacht in international waters. She was abducted and forced against her will to Dubai, with the help of India. We intend to pursue justice for the victims and accountability for those who orchestrated the violent, military attack on ‘Nostromo’."

He and Stirling say they are about to file a legal case against the UAE in American courts.

Latifa has created her own legacy and that was something she communicated to me,” Stirling concludes. “That even if she didn't make it, she would be happy at least to leave a mark on the world that things might change in the future.

That women [in the Middle East] are going to have more freedom in the future is because her case will be known about.

As far as my own legacy, I want to ensure things like this cannot happen, that the UAE does not feel emboldened to do whatever they want, wherever they want.

Shocking interview with Wolfgang Douglas on the #FreeAlbert campaign

Shocking interview with Wolfgang Douglas on the #FreeAlbert campaign

Gulf in Justice Podcast with Radha Stirling - Shocking interview with Wolfgang Douglas on the #FreeAlbert campaign

Shocking interview with Wolfgang Douglas reveals Albert Douglas has been suffering a dislocated shoulder since being beaten in a UAE prison.

After extensive campaigning and complaints to the British government, Albert was finally seen by a medical professional who was “stunned” that he had not been to hospital.  Albert was told that he would need surgery to mend his broken shoulder but that surgery wouldn’t take place for another several months.  This comes on top of his dizzy spells, his vision problems and the denial of his heart medication.

“He’s laid there for the last six months in pain from the beatings, despite being 100% categorically innocent”, explains Wolfgang.  The prosecution told Albert “we know you’re not guilty, but this is Dubai”.  All of this is happening in a country that the UK goes out of its way to promote, even covering up human rights violations.  Wolfgang tells of his trouble with the British FCDO who he says have perpetuated the lies told by the UAE in respect of Albert having been denied his medication.

Detained in Dubai CEO and Gulf in Justice host Radha Stirling highlights corruption within the UAE judiciary, noting that Albert and his family have been targeted by police, by Sheikhs and by expats and lawyers seeking money to get him free.  “When they become successful, they become a target.  This is an ongoing issue in the UAE, that when someone is imprisoned, a lot of people will come forward to the family and ask them for money who then just keep the money. He’s become prey to a system that allows for that, and then we have people like Lord Udny-Lister in the UK, promoting the country as a safe place to invest.  He is not even mentioning that so many investors in the UAE have ended up scapegoated or victimised.  It’s not like the UK where you’re afforded a fair trial and where you can defend yourself and prove your innocence.

“When people visit the UAE, they expect an equivalent glitzy, glamorous legal system to match the 7 star hotels.  Albert had faith that he would be able to prove his innocence.  He had all of the evidence to do so but wasn’t even afforded the chance.  He couldn’t get a judge to look at it beyond 5 minutes.”

Albert Douglas had been a huge supporter of the UAE from the beginning.  Wolfgang has made it a mission to warn investors and businesses of the real risks Dubai poses.  “For a little bit of money, you risk your humanity and your life”.

Listen to the Gulf in Justice Podcast before you go to Dubai.

Andy Slaughter, MP slams FCDO & calls for UK government action over UAE human rights violations

Andy Slaughter, MP slams FCDO & calls for UK government action over UAE human rights violations

Andy Slaughter, MP slams FCDO & calls for UK government action on the Gulf in Justice Podcast with Radha Stirling

Andy Slaughter discusses how human rights are being overlooked with UAE trade deals being prioritised by the British government.  “It’s something that should really worry the government very much.   It’s very difficult not to conclude that a blind eye is being turned because of the advantages.  It could be trade and commerce, it could be defence but that should not trump the human rights of the individual citizens”.

In a letter to Foreign Minister, Rt Hon. Dominic Raab, Slaughter and Baroness Whitaker, MP called for an increase in travel warnings and potential sanctions for human rights violations committed against British citizens like Albert Douglas.

Grandfather Albert Douglas was detained in Dubai over his son’s business debts, something that Radha Stirling, regional expert and host of Gulf in Justice, explains is very common in the UAE.  Detained in Dubai’s client Morag Koussa, a British national, was released last year after being held for her estranged husband’s bank debts.

Albert Douglas, in a recorded phone call from prison, testified as to human rights violations, torture and the deprivation of much needed heart medication.  Yet, the British government has not made the effort to request an inquiry into his unfair detention.

Stirling, an Expert Witness in extradition cases, confirms that British courts refuse to extradite to the UAE based on ‘the real risk of human rights violations, unfair trials and torture’.  “So why has the UK not reflected these High Court rulings in their travel warnings to British nationals?”.

Slaughter calls out the FCDO “If we have this good relationship with the UAE, why are we not using that relationship to put pressure on the UAE, especially with British nationals”.

What is clear from this episode of Gulf in Justice, is that the UK is increasingly dependent on the UAE as a trade partner and a significant investor into UK infrastructure and private business.  The UAE has paid its way to influence policy at the highest levels in the UK and the US which is putting individuals at increased and significant risk of grave violations.

André Gauthier HOME after Dubai jail nightmare

André Gauthier HOME after Dubai jail nightmare

André Gauthier is finally reunited with his family after years-long ordeal that left him scapegoated by members of Gold AE.

Gauthier arrived in Toronto on the 4th of May 2021 where he quarantined for three days before making the final trip home to Quebec. He made it home just in time for his wife’s birthday.

“It seemed as though Gauthier’s nightmare would never end when he first contacted us”, said Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai who represents the Gauthiers. “There were dozens of cases against him, some of which could not be appealed anymore. André had tried everything he could to resolve the cases legally, spending hundreds of thousand on lawyers, when he contacted us after a failed attempt to flee via the Omani border.

“It was certainly a complicated case. It involved Ponzi schemes, money laundering and powerful royals. The investors in Gold AE who were defrauded, were wrongfully told to take cases against André. This would provide enough distraction for the scamsters to leave the country. They ended up setting up new and similar scams in Canada, which we reported to authorities.

“Detained in Dubai and the Gauthier family would like to thank the members of the Canadian government whose support was instrumental in freeing André. Without diplomatic support, André would likely have died in prison. Canada has set an impressive example of how foreign governments can overcome significant adversity in the Middle East. Other countries should take note. With such a precedent setting diplomatic rescue, it will be difficult for another other foreign government to claim they ‘can’t get involved’.

American man detained in Dubai over Las Vegas Marijuana is FREED

Detained in Dubai CEO, Radha Stirling, announced Peter Clark’s safe return to the United States.

“Nevada resident Peter Clark, from California, was finally freed from Dubai after his 2 month ordeal which cost him $50,000.  Peter was deported late Tuesday night on a flight via Doha to New York.”.

Before his departure, Peter interviewed with Stirling for her Gulf in Justice Podcast.  In the interview, Peter warns Americans to go to Miami instead.  “Do not go to Dubai.  You can get arrested for so many different things.”

Stirling said “It’s outrageous that Peter was held in Dubai for almost two months on charges pertaining to cannabis he had smoked legally in Las Vegas before travelling to Dubai.  Peter was a responsible traveller.  He made sure he left any pharmaceuticals at home, including Aspirin, just to be sure he didn’t have any delays or issues at customs.  Never did he imagine he could be arrested for cannabis smoked outside of the UAE.

“The UAE’s extraterritorial laws have landed a number of visitors in trouble.  People can be arrested for having alcohol in their system, even if served by the government’s own airline.  They can be arrested for hashish consumed legally, outside the country, that leaves residue trace elements in the bloodstream.  The UAE’s Cybercrime laws are far reaching and visitors can be arrested for violations that happened years ago, outside the country.  For example, an offensive or rude post on social media, or a rude private message on WhatsApp.

“Peter did nothing wrong.  He should never have been arrested and treated so badly.  As soon as we found out about the case, we appointed legal representatives and contacted US officials and members of the Senate.  Fortunately, we were able to resolve Peter’s case and get him home safe.  Others like Andy Neal spent more than a year in prison, fighting against frivolous charges before finally being exonerated.  Dubai authorities are messing with people’s lives.  They don’t seem to understand the impact a forced lengthy stay in Dubai has.  People can not afford to stay in a hotel for 2-6 months awaiting a court hearing.  They lose their jobs, their relationships and can even go bankrupt as a result.  The stress, anxiety and emotional toll is far underrated.   People in this situation don’t know if they are going to a foreign prison and whether their life is finished.  This is possibly the most stressful time they’ve had in their lives.  Loved ones are at home facing their worst nightmares too.

The Case of Reda Boulahdid - Ras Al Khaimah

The Case of Reda Boulahdid - Ras Al Khaimah

French national Reda Boulahdid tells Radha Stirling about blackmail ordeal by UAE customs officials in Ras Al Khaimah.

Mr. Boulahdid who is represented by UK legal group Detained in Dubai, says that his nightmare began with what he thought was a joke. A customs official visited his warehouse and demanded Boulahdid make him a partner in the company. Then, while he was out of the country, Ras Al Khaimah customs officials shut down his warehouse and authorities demanded he pay 20% of his business income to them.

No reasons were given for the closure, and no justification offered for why he should pay them a percentage of his profits. When he didn’t pay, a series of false allegations of commercial fraud were made against him and his car production factory was closed.

“The customs agents whom Mr. Boulahdid says tried to extort money from him, who held his wife against her will and who seized his personal and business-related paperwork and equipment without a warrant, should be subject to a criminal investigation, rather than Mr. Boulahdid being tried on charges brought by these men.”

The Case of Khater Massaad, former advisor to Emirati ruler

Former advisor to UAE ruler breaks silence:

Khater Massaad on Sheikh Saud  Former advisor to Ras Al Khaimah ruler, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, breaks silence.  Khater Massaad is the former CEO of RAKIA, RAK Ceramics and various enterprises embarked upon during his tenure and before the ruler’s purge of foreign nationals he felt “knew too much”.

In his first interview on the topic, Swiss national Dr Khater Massaad spoke with expert Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, Due Process International and the host of the Gulf in Justice Podcast.

A prized ally and close advisor to the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, Massaad was the founder of RAK Ceramics and the driving force behind unprecedented success for the northern Emirate bringing in revenue of more than $1bn from more than 150 countries, securing RAK’s position on the map and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award (MRM Business Award) for industry.

But rather than thanking those who helped drive the Emirate to success, Sheikh Saud embarked upon a massive purge when he came into power.  This included jailing workers and employees of the former ruler, issuing frivolous Interpol notices, and robbing them of their net worth through a series of abusive and meritless legal proceedings in his own personal courts.  Massaad has fought off three baseless Interpol notices, a meritless extradition request and several civil court actions, but the Sheikh continues in his endeavours to seize assets that simply don’t belong to him.  Massaad discusses the “wild west of the UAE” in his interview with expert witness, Radha Stirling.

The Case of a woman detained in Dubai over WhatsApp message

The Case of a woman detained in Dubai over WhatsApp message

Woman faces “£100,000 fine and 2 years in prison” for WhatsApp message in Dubai

British woman in tears after Dubai police advise her she faces a “500,000 dirham fine, two years in prison and deportation”.

Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai and Due Process International announced in the Gulf in Justice Podcast, that the woman detained in Dubai has been asked to attend the police station today in an attempt to persuade the Ukrainian complainant to drop the case.

Stirling said “the woman has been told she faces £100,000 in fines, imprisonment and deportation, and was in tears last night.  The UAE has criminalised practically every visitor to the country under their vague and poorly drafted Cybercrime laws.  Today’s news really hit home for the woman, who has never been in trouble in her life.  She is enthralled in an alien legal system and the seriousness of a simple WhatsApp message sent to a fellow European in the heat of an argument, is difficult to comprehend.  It is a nightmare for her.

“This situation is incredibly common, but most cases are not brought to the media.  Even if she were only issued a small fine, she would still be processed through the legal system and held in Dubai for months.  This alone can ruin lives and cause significant financial and emotional damage.  Imagine facing all of this over a simple WhatsApp message sent in private.

“The FCO’s hands off approach to the UAE is unacceptable.  When we see countries like Malaysia, the US and Canada helping their citizens, we have to ask why the UK isn’t?  The UK is one of the UAE’s strongest allies on many levels and can not genuinely say they have no influence.  Why is the UK allowing such active tourism marketing towards its citizens, but not demanding their safety?”

The Case of Oussama El Omari - NY Court orders damages for man targeted by UAE Sheikh

NY Court orders damages for man targeted by UAE Sheikh & his US agents because he “knew too much”

New York District Court orders damages in claim against agents of “corrupt UAE ruler” who “targeted him due to his intricate knowledge of illicit oil trade with Iran, contraband trade and loss of billions of dollars of state funds”.

Mr El Omari, in his claim against James Buchanan, Dechert lawyers, Andrew D Frank, Karv Communications, Intelligence Online et al., said these parties have “crossed the line, acting as propaganda agents” to a “corrupt foreign dictator in the Middle East, Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi”.

El Omari names Andrew D. Frank (a/k/a Andrew D. Solomon) and Amir Ali Handjani of Karv Communications, a PR agency as a defendant and Intelligence Online, a France based Intelligence focussed publication, alongside US lawyers Dechert and partner Neil Gerrard, who are also being sued in the US and UK for their role in torture and human rights violations against other victims in RAK.  Neil Gerrard stepped down from his partnership position at Dechert following English High Court claims launched this year.  James Buchanan, who acted as a “white knight” for Sheikh Saud, was named in the suit.

ANOTHER Dubai Rental Car Extortion SCAM

ANOTHER Dubai Rental Car Extortion SCAM

As if James Dua-Wiafi and Stanley Kundishora’s widely reported ordeal wasn’t sufficient warning, a THIRD Londoner has just fallen prey to a rental car agency demanding £30,000 in return for his passport.  When will this end?

Like many other Brits escaping strict lockdown measures, 23 year old plumber Nico Paraskeva, from Wembley, flew to Dubai on the 5th of January for a mini-break in the sun, where cafes and venues remain open.

Nico and his friend rented a luxury Bentley for their fun in the sun.  A day before their return to London life, things took a turn for the worse when Nico’s friend was driving the car alone and a bottle of water became jammed underneath the brakes, causing an accident.  The car damage was mostly concentrated to the wheel, but Nico’s friend went to hospital for stitches.  A report was filed with the police and it was deemed a “no fault” accident.

Nico expected to have to come up with the excess fees for the agency, but was stunned when the agency demanded AED 150,000 (approximately £30,000) for the return of his passport.  “It’s unbelievable.  The car agency said we’d have to pay rental car fees for the entire time it takes to fix the car and have it back in action again”, Nico told Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai who is representing him.

“After the stunning demand for £30,000 pounds, their friends began researching and came across the case of James and Stanley, who we also represented. It was a different rental car agency, but almost the same demand: Give us an extortionate amount of money or we will hold your passport and keep you hostage in our country.

“Nico’s girlfriend called.  She hadn’t slept, beside herself with worry and his mother, who suffers from health problems, has been terribly stressed.  They simply do not have 150,000 dirhams to give in to the demands of the car agency, and nor should they.

“This is the second time in a matter of weeks that we have seen British citizens targeted by rental car companies in Dubai, illegally seizing their passports, and essentially holding them ransom.  Obviously, Nico is not responsible for paying rental costs for the car during its repair; rather than simply accepting for their costs to be covered, the company is trying to make a profit from a blameless accident that put someone in hospital, and threatening Nico with a potential civil case which could leave him stranded in the UAE indefinitely.

“When Nico approached the British Embassy for advice and assistance, they discouraged him from publicising his plight, despite the fact that James and Stanley were only freed to return to the UK last November precisely because of the media campaign we launched on their behalf.  We understand that consular staff are communicating with the car agency, and we hope this outreach bears fruit, but it is irresponsible, in my view, for the embassy to warn citizens to keep quiet about injustices they face in the UAE.  Frankly, this is something we have learned the embassy does routinely, and in our experience, it inevitably prolongs rather than helps resolve issues Brits endure with the Emirates’ legal system.”

Qatar’s series of attacks against Australians:  Radha Stirling discusses Lukman Thalib and Ismail Talib arrests.  Radha Stirling, founder of Detained in Doha, an organisation who assists those who face injustice in Qatar, issued a statement on the detention of Australian nationals who have been held without charge since July.

Stirling, who founded Detained in Dubai in 2008 and the Gulf in Justice Podcast, also represents another Australian, Joseph Sarlak, who has been held in the country.  In the Gulf in Justice Podcast, Stirling discusses the cases of Lukman Thalib, Ismail Talib, Joseph Sarlak, Jonathan Nash, Ranald Crook, the assault of passengers onboard the flight to Sydney, women's rights, Princess Laitfa and Conor Howard.  Stirling calls on Marise Payne, the Australian Foreign Minister and the Ambassador to build a path forward with Qatar, to pave the way for better relations, to ensure that human rights violations and judicial abuses, don’t ruin what could be a productive alliance.  Qatar continues to commit grave human rights violations against Australians, and our government needs to ensure they know we will not tolerate it.  In the interim, every effort must be made to warn Australians of the risks of transiting through the country”.

Stirling is a Criminal & Civil Justice Specialist, Expert Witness, Speaker, Founder of Due Process International, Detained in Dubai, IPEX Reform, Gulf Investment Monitor and the Gulf in Justice Podcast.  Veteran Middle East justice expert Radha Stirling launched her podcast Gulf in Justice in August 2020. New Gulf in Justice Podcast Episode - The Case of Joseph Sarlak, Australian jailed in Doha by Qatari royal

New Gulf in Justice Podcast Episode - The Case of Joseph Sarlak, Australian jailed in Doha by Qatari royal

In this new episode, Radha Stirling interviews for the first time, Australian national Joe Sarlak, who has been detained in Doha for many years after being used as a scapegoat by the Qatari royal who was his local sponsor.  His sponsor had secretly looted Sarlak’s business to pay for his own financial obligations, leaving business cheques to bounce that would see Sarlak locked up for years in Doha’s disastrous desert prison.

With no possibility to defend himself and with no assistance from the Australian government, Sarlak saw himself facing his worst nightmare:  A Middle Eastern legal system, a disgusting cockroach infested prison with no medical support and a government that has abandoned him.

Joe Sarlak has stuck it out.  He’s 70 years old and desperate to come home to his children.  In his exclusive interview, Joe warns Australians to avoid Qatar at all costs, describing the ordeal he has been subject to and the shambles of a legal system he has faced.

Middle Eastern justice expert Radha Stirling, founder of Detained in Dubai and Detained in Doha, is representing Mr Sarlak in his efforts to achieve his freedom.  Stirling talks about Qatar’s justice system, its lobbying efforts in the West and the abuse that foreign nationals have faced in the country.  Stirling implores the Australian government to step in and help diplomatically or face judicial discipline and talks with Joe’s friend, Andrew Gorgon, about his impression of Qatar.

Radha Stirling represented Conor Howard, a Scottish man who was arrested in Greece on the basis of a Qatar issued Interpol Red Notice over an herb grinder he bought in Australia.  Stirling discusses Qatar’s Interpol abuse, as well as the cases of Jonathan Nash and Ranald Crook, British nationals who she also represents and who are also facing similar abuse in the country, after deciding to bring their skills to the Gulf State.

The episode makes it clear that Qatar needs to quickly resolve these cases, before its reputation goes irredeemably south.

The Case of Dieter Kellouche - German man facing life sentence in UAE for 'upsetting Sheikh.'

The Case of Dieter Kellouche - German man facing life sentence in UAE for 'upsetting Sheikh.'

German citizen Dieter Kellouche was good friends with a UAE government official and tribal leader, but upset him and is now serving a life sentence.

Dieter was sentenced to life in a Sharjah desert prison after befriending a Sheikh whose failure to recognise him after a few years apart, resulted in his own embarrassment.  The Sheikh apologised to Dieter but then had him arrested and jailed over a series of false and un-evidenced allegations.  Dieter has been sentenced to life in prison.

Radha Stirling, founder of Detained in Dubai said:

“The prevalence of prominent Emiratis abusing foreign nationals is not only frequent, but it’s seriously damaging to the reputation of the UAE.  No investor or expat can feel safe in a country where they can be jailed at the whim of locals who clearly dominate the judicial system in the country and where no evidence of a crime is required to jail someone.

“Artur Ligeska wrote a book outlining his wrongful imprisonment, torture and human rights abuses endured at the command of an Abu Dhabi sheikh, and ruler Sheikh Saud, has been accused of serious human rights violations against foreign nationals for his own political gain.  The United Arab Emirates is investing in legal reforms and public relations efforts to attract foreign investors, expats and tourists, but can not succeed while these abuses continue.  The UAE should immediately take steps to intervene in Dieter’s case.  Dieter has been imprisoned, apparently with zero evidence of wrongdoing save for the word of a sheikh.  The German authorities are turning a blind eye to abuses against their citizens and are failing to sufficiently warn nationals of the risks of visiting or living in the Emirates.  This has to stop.”

The case of Danielle Jeffries - American facing jail for opening her own business in Dubai

The case of Danielle Jeffries - American facing jail for opening her own business in Dubai

Miami woman detained in Dubai for starting her own accountancy business “suffered racism”.

Miami accountant Danielle Jeffries, 58, is the latest American to face the Dubai justice system where she’s been sentenced to jail, a hefty fine and deportation for crimes she didn’t commit.

Detained in Dubai’s founder, Radha Stirling responded to the conviction, “Despite clear evidence of Ms Jeffries’ innocence, Dubai police allowed the PRO to change his witness testimony and subsequently prosecuted both parties on behalf of their Australian accuser. Danielle has been caught up in the shambles of a legal system, thrown from pillar to post while trying to defend herself from these charges. She has tried everything to have her voice heard by authorities, even having contacted as a last resort, the Minister of Happiness, who couldn’t understand how this had happened, expressed empathy but did nothing to help.

“She spent 30 days without electricity and water, utilities she couldn’t connect in her flat while her passport was with police. She’s been battling depression, physical and psychological distress and is beside herself with worry over her 93 year old mother back in the States who she can’t visit as she used to.

“The fact is, she can not pay the $40,000 fine so even if she’s arrested today and thrown in prison for three months, she still won’t be able to go home to the States. She’ll be stuck in the country indefinitely.  It’s absolutely abominable that Dubai would treat investors like this. How will the city attract entrepreneurs when they can be prosecuted and jailed without evidence, then detained in the city indefinitely, with no permission to work to raise the money for their unfair fines?

“Danielle Jeffries is a black woman in a Middle Eastern legal system and this in itself, will influence her access to a fair trial. The accuser, in criminal cases in Dubai, is almost always favoured and believed. Evidence is not required and a mere accusation is sufficient to achieve a conviction. Add to that the fact that she is a woman, and then that she is a black woman, and she is further disadvantaged in the judicial system. Racism and sexism are prevalent throughout the United Arab Emirates, to the point where a female rape victim will be charged with sex outside marriage, or where an Asian or African may be sentenced to death while a white Brit charged with murder, will be released in just a few years.

“Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, who is supporting Danielle, approached the UAE’s Ambassador to the US, His Excellency Mr Yousef Al Otaiba, but his advice was simply to pay the fine.

“We are writing to the US State Department to recommend they review and increase warnings to American citizens, and business and investment groups also need to be advised. The UAE has got away lightly with actions against US citizens. We have seen the UAE government attack a US registered yacht in international waters under false pretences, with no apparent consequence, and now we are seeing the systematic abuse of American tourists, expats and entrepreneurs in the UAE. David Oliver, was detained in Dubai over a bank debt and only through diplomatic intervention, was he returned home. Melissa McBurnie was arrested recently after being sexually harassed by an Egyptian man, only released following international outrage, and now we have Danielle, who is facing jail over a document she had nothing to do with.
