ABCs of Personal Branding - Holiday 2023 Edition
Navigating the Holiday Networking Season: A Personal Branding Review and Dos & Don'ts Guide
As the holiday season approaches, it's not just a time for festive decorations and merriment—it's also a prime opportunity to enhance your personal brand through holiday networking. Whether you're attending office parties, industry events, or family gatherings, how you present yourself can significantly impact your professional reputation.
The Power of Personal Branding:
Your personal brand is the sum of your values, skills, and how others perceive you. During the holiday season, networking opportunities abound, so make sure your personal branding presents a consistent and positive image. Your personal brand is the essence of who you are and what you bring to the table, and the holidays offer a unique chance to reinforce and expand that brand.
Dos for Holiday Networking:
1. Dress Appropriately: Your attire speaks volumes about your professionalism and attention to detail. Choose outfits that align with the occasion and industry norms, projecting a polished image that reflects positively on your personal brand.
2. Perfect Your Storytelling: Keep a concise and compelling story representing you and your expertise. During holiday gatherings, people may ask about your work or interests, and having well-prepared storytelling will leave a lasting impression.
3. Active Listening: Do practice active listening. Engage in meaningful conversations by showing genuine interest in what others are saying. Your interaction demonstrates your interpersonal skills but also helps you build authentic connections.
4. Express Gratitude: Do take the opportunity to express gratitude. Whether it's thanking colleagues for their collaboration or acknowledging the host of a holiday event, gratitude enhances your personal brand by showcasing humility and appreciation.
5. Share Success Stories: Highlighting your achievements humbly helps build credibility and establishes you as someone others can trust and admire.
Don'ts for Holiday Networking:
1. Overindulge: Don't overindulge in food or alcohol. It's easy to get carried away during festive gatherings, but excessive indulgence can lead to unprofessional behavior and tarnish your personal brand.
2. Ignore Professionalism: Don't forget your professional demeanor. Even in a festive atmosphere, maintain professionalism that aligns with your personal brand. Avoid gossip or inappropriate jokes that may compromise your reputation.
3. Be Overly Aggressive: Don't be overly aggressive in promoting yourself. While networking is essential, pushing your agenda too forcefully can be off-putting. Build relationships organically, and let your personal brand shine naturally.
4. Neglect Follow-Up: Don't neglect follow-up actions. After networking events, follow up with new contacts through email or social media. Reinforce your personal brand by expressing gratitude for the interaction and suggesting potential ways to collaborate.
5. Forget the Power of Body Language: Don't underestimate the power of body language. Maintain open and approachable body language. It speaks volumes about your confidence and authenticity. Avoid crossing your arms or appearing disinterested during conversations.
Stay true to your self
As you navigate the holiday networking scene, remember that every interaction is an opportunity to reinforce your personal brand. Dress for success, perfect your storytelling and engage in active listening to create meaningful connections.
Express gratitude, share success stories, and, above all, maintain professionalism. Avoid overindulgence, aggressive self-promotion, and neglecting follow-up actions.
By following these dos and don'ts, you'll not only enjoy the holiday season, but also strategically enhance your personal brand for a prosperous future.

Costume Makes The Character
Our special guest today is Stacee Mandeville, Creator of The Mandeville Method because sadly, many soft skills courses are loaded with gobbledygook and theoretical musings, with no mention of HOW a theory should be applied in an actionable and concrete fashion. Lots to think about, but very little to practice, practice, practice.
Theory without action is my nemesis. Theory without action is why I created the Mandeville Method.
No matter what kind of coaching session I offer, I'm always seeking to follow "what you should do" with "how you can do it": concrete, repeatable practice strategies, making soft skills as concrete and as benchmarkable, as possible. So you can practice, practice, practice.
Since 1999 I have been partnering with companies in a myriad of industries all over the world to plug the holes in their bottom line. If you have a sneaking suspicion that your soft skills are leaking, I'd love to partner with you as well!
Contact me! I'm happy to answer questions, and flesh out your team's goals and challenges to create a custom soft skills solution for you! Stacee@mandevillemethod.com

Pawsitive Strategies for Business & Life
Melinda Thomas is a dog-loving marketing strategist, keynote speaker, and customer experience expert who consults with brands who want to escape the sea of sameness. She is at home presenting to audiences on Zoom or the stage because she began her career journey as a stage, film, and TV actor and honed her emcee skills performing stand-up comedy in NYC clubs.
Melinda has worked as a writer and strategist for brands you know, like Macy’s, Verizon, and Disney, and for other industry superstars that aren’t household names. When she isn’t saying hi to every dog she sees, you’ll find her talking about Pawsitive strategies – the techniques and behaviors used by outrageously successful dogs - that humans can use to improve their marketing and bottom line.

The Powerful Conversation
Dr. Robyn Odegaard is a former competitive beach volleyball player turned high-performance psychologist with continuing education in nutrition. She has written three books and given a TEDx talk titled Creating Success out of Chaos. Her clients call her a “smoke jumper” because she “parachutes in and helps fight life’s fires from the inside.” She adores the intellectual stimulation of a good conversation, which has led to 375 and counting episodes of her panel discussion video podcast called Quick Hits. In her spare time, she reads astrophysics and quantum physics for fun, works out, tends to her garden and WAY too many houseplants and trains her dog Nebula to do circus tricks.

I become a team member with management and the other professionals in planning and growing the business to achieve the goals that we have all developed together.
