Dimed Out Halloween Special 2023
For spooky season I've put together a mixed bag of macabre, off kilter, unsettling and downright odd treats. Deadly bread, phantom social workers, monkey men, and unsettling figures in the peaceful county of Somerset await in the Dimed Out 2023 Halloween Special.
Season 4, Episode 16: Nasubi's Prize Life
Alright gang, in our season finale we’re asking “can a man live on completion prizes alone?”
The year is 1998. The place is Japan.
An aspiring comedian by the name of Nasubi auditions to be on Denpa Shonen’s new TV show with the hopes of breaking into showbiz.
Selected as the sole contestant, Nasubi is then taken to a small apartment, stripped naked and told that everything he needs to survive from this point on, must be won via magazine and radio contests.
Oh, and if that wasn’t traumatic enough, millions of people at home will be watching on a weekly basis.
Nasubi’s Prize Life is a story that is so ridiculous it shouldn’t be true. But it is.
It’s a story that is cruel, compelling, grotesque, puzzling, and psychologically fascinating.
A pretty fitting way to finish our fourth season then.
If you're interested you can find Prize Life episodes below

Season 4, Episode 15: Tim Doyle and the Golden Ones - Part 2
Alright gang, this week we’re concluding our two part conversation with Tim Doyle.
Not only are we getting a resolution to Tim’s encounter with the Angel of Death but Tim also digs into a variety of topics including the God frequency.
Shifting from a 3rd dimensional consciousness to a 5th level consciousness. Egyptian gods, arcturians and a prayer which allegedly removes fears and other emotional parasites from your being.
If any of this has tickled your brain and has left you wanting to dive deeper into this strange, yet undoubtedly curious rabbit hole, then you can learn more about Tim and the golden ones here.

Season 4, Episode 14: Tim Doyle and the Golden Ones - Part 1
Alright gang, this week in the first of a two part conversation, we’re talking to ordained metaphysical minister, reiki master, and conduit for the Golden Ones, Tim Doyle.
In a very unique conversation that took place at my mums dining room table, I spoke to Tim about a number of things.
His mission to spread the teachings of his celestial guides ‘The Golden Ones’.
His ayahuasca experiences in Peru. His encounter with the angel of death. How, why, and when, we allegedly choose to come to earth. Karma. Reincarnation. Free will vs Determinism and so much more. It really is quite the conversation, and this is only the first part.
Be sure to check out the concluding part next week.

Season 4, Episode 13: Social Anxiety and Introvert Strategy with Roxana
Alright gang, this week we’re talking Social Anxiety.
In a fun and insightful chat with Introvert Strategist, Roxana, mastermind behind Honest Rox, we’re looking at introverted behaviour. Being comfortable with who you are and building upon that. Societal expectations. Exposure therapy. Vulnerability. Value. Growth and so much more.

Alright gang, this week we’re taking a look at Neurodiversity.
From common elements and executive decisions to spikey profiles and beyond, we’re digging into Neurodiversity in my chat with Neurodiverse Work Coach, Jessica Michaels.
We also get into life before and after her own Autism diagnosis, how she helps to create a better work environment as well as addressing some commonplace stereotypes and assumptions.

Season 4, Episode 11: Harvard Psilocybin Experiments
Alright gang, this week we’re finally getting round to tackling Timothy Leary.
A Psychologist. An advocate for Psychedelics and free thinking. A provocateur and a counterculture icon.
Cited as both “the most dangerous man in America” and a “hero of American consciousness” Leary has been, for decades, an interesting figure to say the least.
But rather than dive into a biographical exploration of Leary, in this episode we’re going to be looking at two of the most infamous experiments attached to his name. The Concord Prison Experiment and The Good Friday Experiment.
Two pivotal moments in psychedelic research that ask two distinct questions.
Can drugs actually help with criminal rehabilitation and can they bring you closer to god?

Season 4, Episode 10: Skydiving with Dr Kevin Payne
From being terrified of his own body to revelling in the perspective found in the church of altitude, Kevin’s story is really quite remarkable.
After years of suffering from multiple sclerosis. Enduring personal loss. Trauma and emotional depletion, he gave himself one last chance.
After using his academic background to rebuild himself and taking to the skies in order to live his life well, he’s now inspiring others to do the same.

Season 4, Episode 9: The Beatles Never Broke Up
Alright gang, this week we're diving into a Beatles album that was allegedly recovered from another world. It's a bizarre tale of dogs, inter dimensional travel, and purple ketchup.

Season 4, Episode 8: The Museum of Broken Relationships
Alright gang, this week we’re talking about a place that has left a permanent mark on my being, The Museum of Broken Relationships.
Not just that, but I’m discussing the museum with it’s former director, the wonderful Alexis Hyde.
During our conversation Alexis digs into how she got he job curating the museum. How the experience was a whole. The numerous everyday and extraordinary items that were displayed. The all too human stories that accompanied them and naturally we get into a variety of side topics such as empathy and the cathartic process of letting go.
It was an absolute pleasure chatting with Alexis and if you’ve enjoyed this episode (and there is no bloody reason why you shouldn’t have!) you can find more of Alexis here.

Season 4, Episode 7: 2 Year Anniversary!
Alright gang, this week we’re taking a moment to celebrate a milestone.
This week, Dimed Out celebrates it’s 2nd anniversary and to commemorate such a suprising landmark I’ve put together a good old fashioned compilation episode.
Whether you’ve been with Dimed Out for a while or you’re new to this strange little adventure, this is a great episode to dive into as it stitches together a variety of archived clips that take you you through the origins, guests, topics, and developments over the last 2 years.
To everyone who’s listened, participated, shared, told their grandparents about the podcast or just generally been supportive, a great big stinking thank you, from the bottom of my usually non-plussed northern heart.

Season 4, Episode 6 - Bizarrism with Mercer Blackwell
Alright gang, this week I’m joined by Bizarrist and TikTok personality Mercer Blackwell.
Mercer was kind enough to give me a crash course on the world of Bizarrism and a little glimpse into his live show. From swallowing coat hangers and creating personal souvenirs inside his body, Mercer has been heavily invested in curating memorable experiences for people through his unique performances.
Potentially gippy inducing stage tricks aside, we also dive into the educational side of his TikTok output. From space toilets to hostile architecture and beyond.
If you’ve enjoyed this episode (which you most definitely have) then be sure to check out more of Mercer’s output via the link below.

Season 4, Episode 5 - Rage Room
Alright gang, this week we’re letting it all out of our system.
In the first (of hopefully more) experience episodes in Season 4, I smashed the bejesus out of some Christmas crockery.
Rage Rooms or Smash Rooms as they’re also known, seem to have grown in popularity since and during the pandemic. Admittedly they do seem to be quite the cathartic release. To see if this is the case or if they’re simply just a gimmicky day out, I visited a local Rage Room and let rip upon a crate of glass bottles and other smash-able items.

Season 4, Episode 4 - Mr Master Pt.2
Alright gang, this week we're concluding our chat with Gabriel Jacob Luansing aka Mister Master.
In part two we’re diving a little deeper into the music side of things, exploring comedy in music and Mister Master’s lyrical spectrum. We also dig into the influences, inspirations, and creative process behind his avant-garde style of Hip Hop.
If you’ve enjoyed this episode (which obviously you have) then be sure to take a deep dive into the world of Mister Master and his Ultra project.

Season 4, Episode 2 - Deep into the Internet (Video Edition)
Alright gang, in an effort to create a silly, nonsensical palette cleanser of sorts, I decided to take a look at what is considered to be the weirdest websites of 2022.
Within this random mix I found (to name but a few things) an AI that guesses what your doodles are. The hypothetical meat market of Amazon dating. A yodelling pickle. And a comprehensive guide that helps you talk to your cat about gun safety, satanism and so much more.

Season 4, Episode 1 - Recovering From Religion
Alright Gang, it's the Season 4 premiere and to kick things off I'm joined by psychologist, author, and all round font of knowledge on many topics, Dr Darrel Ray.
From the confines of an impromptu makeshift studio in my closet, I was fortunate enough to chat with Darrel about religious trauma, purity culture, and his work with Recovering from Religion. An international non-profit built to help those who have left, are in the process of, or are considering, leaving religion.

Alright gang, this week we're taking a look at the world of furries.
With the help of some willing furries, I learn about 'fursonas' and how they can be either be a mirror for somebodies personality or a sense of escapism.
What role a pursuit plays in all of this and whether being a furry is an identity, a lifestyle, a hobby or all of the above.
We also touch upon the possibilities of sinking too deep into an invented character and whether or not furry culture itself warrants the sexual reputation it has.

Alright gang, this week we're joined by Amye Archer, co-creator of the book 'If I Don't Make It, I Love You'.
'If I Don't Make It' is a collection of true stories told by survivors of school shootings.
In this episode Amye talks to me about how the anthology came together and what she's learned from its creation. How she approached survivors to share their stories and the haunting details that linger.
We also get into the prolonged trauma of the Columbine generation. Counselling and after care. The American gun crisis as a whole. The Activism and advocacy its spawned, and the steps needed for reform.
It's by no means an easy conversation, but it's one so many people need to have and to expand upon.

Rick has lived one hell of a life (to put it mildly).
In this episode we dig into just a few particular areas, including his time in the military, becoming an EMT and the accident which forced him to retire.
But our main focus revolves around Ketamine Infusion Therapy.
In a candid discussion, Rick explains what it is, how it works, and what's on his 'Ketamine Jams' playlist. Digging deeper into the topic he talks about some of the event's that led him to seek treatment in the first place.
The positive affects it's had on him, both as a person and a father, and how it's been a major catalyst for his artistic endeavours.

Season 3, Episode 13 - The Rhythms of Marina Abramovic
Alright gang, this week we're taking a look at the early work of Marina Abramovic.
Since discovering her through the documentary and MOMA performance 'The Artist is Present' I've developed a deep fascination with Marina Abramovic, both the person and the performance artist.
In this episode I'm specifically looking at her first foray into performance art, the Rhythm series. A collection of exhibits from the 1970s which saw Abramovic use her own body to push boundaries.
Testing her levels of endurance and her relationship with the audience, the Rhythm series invoked radical new ideas and dramatically transformed Abramovic in the process.

Alright gang, this week we're entering the rabbit hole of QAnon.
In the first of a two part conversation, Alice, a former follower of QAnon details her experience before and during her time in the cult of Q.
In a candid discussion Alice explains how it is she found QAnon in the first place, what pulled her deeper into the community and how her time with Q effected her life and the relationships around her.
This is by no means a breakdown or an expose of QAnon. It's a real, eye opening account from the other side of the aisle.
One that delves into awakenings, dramatic political shifts, inverted views, white hats, algorithms, and compassionate bridges from one world to another.

Season 3, Episode 10 - The Church of the SubGenius
Alright gang, this week we're taking a look at the Church of the SubGenius.
What started off as joke that became a pamphlet that became a parody religion/weird fringe cult, The Church of the SubGenius is quite the thing to behold.
From the pursuit of slack, the origin of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs and the constant fight against 'the conspiracy', to the prophecy of X day and beyond.
This episode discusses the church's origins, it's dogma, it's culture jamming philosophies and traces its absurd journey through space and time, whatever those things are.

Season 3, Episode 9 - Talking To Myself
Alright gang, this week our special guest is…me.
Playing the role of both of interviewer and interviewee, I have a much needed conversation with myself about a number of things.
In an effort to be more transparent and to allow myself to be more vulnerable, this episode digs into my headspace. The depression and anxiety I've felt throughout the last two and half years, but in particular the last six months.
The severe disconnect I've felt. Being alienated in my surroundings. Struggling with a new country and culture. The things I've done to try and outrun these feelings and why I need to face them.
This is admittedly a bit of an indulgent concept, but by talking about these things out loud, it's helped me breathe life into realisation.
As always thank you for listening and if any of you can relate to the subject matter at hand here, I hope this gives you some sense of comfort.

Season 3, Episode 8 - Pulling Oracle Cards with Kathy Crabbe
Alright gang, this week we're pulling oracle cards.
In the concluding part of my conversation with artist, psychic, astrologer & soul reader Kathy Crabbe, I have my chakra's checked and Kathy pulls a couple of cards from her hand made oracle decks.
This mini session of sorts not only moved me to look inwards a little more, but it also provided some helpful creative prompts, such as free/automatic writing.
As an added bonus, me and Kathy also touch upon a couple of interesting areas towards the end of our chat. Mainly her thoughts on determinism and dealing with any negative information she receives amidst her soul readings.

Season 3, Episode 6 - Two Weeks With Karen (Week 2)
Alright gang, this is our final week with Karen the virtual life coach.
Last week we answered some pretty deep and pointed questions and along the way we started to build an unconventional client/coach relationship.
As we head into our final stage, the professional increasingly becomes a lot more personal.
The choices we make have lasting effects, and by the end of it we're left with a number of questions like…what's the deal with Karen's flat mate Dave? Should Karen even be a life coach? Have I become a life coach? And what does any of these even mean?

Alright gang, this week we're aiming to put the social back into social media. In the first of a two part conversation with Dr Lauren Serpico we dig into the pros and cons of remote working. We're talking procrastination, productivity, accountability, and perfectionism.

Season 3, Episode 2 - Monkey Pong with Chris Cooke
Joined by Chris Cooke of the 'Beyond Binary Thinking' podcast, we dig into the idea of a symbiotic relationship between humanity and technology.
From telepathic monkeys with brain implants and Elon Musk to self driving cars, living in a simulation, and boomers living forever in the cloud, we explore the exciting yet somewhat terrifying world of transhumanism.
Season 3, Episode 1 - Animal Attacks with Jeremy Carberry
Chatting with Jeremy we discuss his background in sound engineering, animal handling in Hollywood and his personal experience with animal attacks. From scorpions and stingray barbs to cookie cutter sharks, humboldt squids and a close encounter with a bear, the season 3 premiere is a ferocious must-listen.

To cap off the second season we're taking a look at what's happened since starting back up in December. Looking at the highlights, the topics covered, new areas explored, and of course the guests we've had on to share their stories, insight, expertise and experience.
Dimed Out - Season 2, Episode 15: Medicine & Mythology
Discussing her love for mythology along with her academic pursuit of medicine, Audrey digs into a fascinating project she's recently launched. Anatomyth is a pretty unique podcast that merges folk tales and lore from across the world with lesser known, contemporary medical conditions.
A potent blend of education and entertainment that in this episode alone brings a varied collection of finds. From simulated labour pains and Celtic curses to facial cream that contains snake venom, this is dive into medicine and mythology is something that you don't want to miss.

Dimed Out - Season 2, Episode 13: Reading from My Travel Memoir
After rediscovering a travel memoir I was working on, but subsequently abandoned five years ago, I thought I'd read through the first couple of chapters that never were.
The memoir was intended to cover the coast to coast adventure across America that eventually placed me in Central Texas. Digging into the first section of the first draft, we find a younger, more anxious, and socially uncertain version of myself navigating the streets of New York.
Bushwick, Brooklyn to be precise.
In this episode you can expect to find plenty of cringe-worthy thoughts. Overly descriptive writing. Anxiety. Catastrophizing. The facing of demons and even a little bit of poignant insight.
Opening this memoir up after five years was a little daunting to say the least, but ultimately it proved that sometimes you really do need to look at where you were, to truly appreciate where you are.
Dimed Out - Season 2, Episode 12: Story Time with Kayla Spears
In my conversation with Kayla we talk about how and why she started 'Story Time with Kayla'. The value of having a mission statement. The validity of finding your calling, in your own time, in your own way. The importance of representation, reflection and identity in children's literature. The impact her story telling Youtube channel has had during the pandemic and so much more.

Dimed Out: Season 2, Episode 8 - Seth Shostak
Dimed Out: Season 2, Episode 7 - LHOHQ
There are many theories regarding the identity and purpose of LHOHQ. Some believe it to be a hiding place for confidential material. Others think it's an alternative reality game or a gallery for avant grade digital art. Whatever it is, LHOHQ is a pretty strange, creepy and confusing labyrinth.
Exploring its numerous layers, we put together a cut and paste collage of deep fake dancing, illegal weapon deals and the potential hidden agenda of build a bear workshop.
Dimed Out: Season 2, Episode 6 - Brandi Fleck (Human Amplified)
In this jam packed conversation we're taking a look at some of the most prominent elements that make us human. We're talking about the balance of duality in our lives. The idea of determinism and connectivity on a universal scale. What Brandi has learned from listening to other people share their personal stories. What she's learnt about herself since podcasting. The power of vulnerability, relating to other people and the role social media plays on our personal identity.
