Three words: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. If you like you can abbreviate it to PCOS, but either way, let’s talk about it.

Heather’s guest on this episode is Lianna LaBerge (@unsolicitedstyleadvice). She was diagnosed with PCOS five years ago. Upon learning this she felt relief, that there was some explanation for experiences she had dealt with for years.

PCOS is an imbalance of hormones that causes cysts to grow on the ovaries. And it affects 1 in 10 people with ovaries, also known as ovarian humans. Maybe we just came up with that in this episode.

One of the symptoms Lianna discusses with Heather is period irregularity, prompting them to compare first period stories. Another symptom is body hair that can grow where you might not ordinarily find it. You can imagine the effect that this kind of relationship with her body had on Lianna while growing up.

Also in this episode, Lianna shares a piece she wrote about her anxiety.

Knowing your family history is very important. It makes a huge difference should you have a higher likelihood for lymphoma. Heather's friend Joy Mamey (@joymamey) was diagnosed at age 28 after finding a bump on her neck, followed by two more.

"I think it hits when it wants to hit."

Joy spoke with Heather about the effects of chemotherapy. It's not great for pooping, or for appetite. Fortunately, there is weed. And just like any hangover, it is essential to hydrate! The whole experience brings many unexpected feelings as well. The reactions she received after losing weight were surprising, and Heather is here for shaved head solidarity.

Today marks ten years since the death of Heather’s mom. Heather was 17 at the time. A while back, Heather sat down with Chelsea for her podcast Dying of Laughter (@dyingoflaughter_podcast), where Chelsea talks to comedians who have lost a parent or sibling. WOW. You folks are in for a very insightful conclusion to our awesome panel of ethically non-monogamous badasses. In part two, Monica, Nicole, and Lauren offer more stories and experiences that involve in-depth self-reflection. And pay attention to how being honest about their feelings, as well as specific, is crucial to both understanding, and dealing with potential challenges. One of the primary topics in this episode includes undoing various types of cultural programming. In this discussion, that programming is in relation to preconceived notions about relationships and commitment. But we sincerely hope that right now, every white person reading this is on their own journey of self-reflection and undoing the programming of systemic racism.

An update. We were in the middle of bringing you Season 3, when we were told that everyone would be safer if we just stayed at home.
