District Download: Standards Based Report Card Infocast
This episode is a must listen for Elementary families. This episode is an informational look at how grading at the elementary will change to a standards approach for the 2022-2023 school year.
Standards based report card School Board Presentation
What is a Standards-Based Report Card?
A Standards-Based Report Card is focused on mastery towards the Ohio Learning Standards. The report card will show what a child's specific strengths are and what areas still need refinement. Grades will not be reflective of effort rather will be focused solely on progress towards a specific goal. CNEES' Standards-Based Report Cards for grades K-2 will be based on al, 2, 3 scale.
3 = Performance meets standards and student produces quality work independently.
2 = Performance is approaching standard and student applies learned skills with teacher supports.
1 = Below standard and the student needs much teacher support, frequent re-teaching, and additional practice
How will this affect our parents, students, and teachers?
Parents will be able to more effectively understand how their child is progressing towards the end of year standards. Parents will understand more precisely how their child is doing in each subject area. Rather than a letter grade for Math or Reading, children will receive many performance markings within the subject. Students will be able to understand what areas they excel in, what areas they are right on track in, and what areas need more practice. This will allow students to celebrate success but also have more targeted goals in how they want to improve. Teachers will be able to have more meaningful conversations with parents about their child's progress. Teachers will be able to look at a child's prior year's report card and already have a clear picture about where the child came from and where they are headed. Standards-based grading also creates a need for common assessment and more collaboration among teachers, which is a positive outcome.
Other Important Information
The switch in the report card is of no cost to the district. A report card committee consisting of two kindergarten teachers, two first grade teachers, and one second grade teacher have led the charge within the grade band to create the report card with their teams. There has been refinement and feedback to create a draft report card that can be fine-tuned until July. With Ohio's Learning Standards having the possibility of updates and changes, the report card can be a living document that edits can be made to each year, as needed. CNEES is planning to roll-out the Standards-Based Report Card through information available at the March Literacy Event, the CNE podcast, social media, and potentially an introductory video for parents to answer any questions.
We know any time there is change, there will be many questions and oftentimes some confusion. Our goal is to continue to foster relationships with parents so they are at ease with the new report card and understand how it will be a tool they can use to better understand their child's academic progress.
If you have any additional questions regarding the new report card process please feel free to reach out!

District Download: Infocast with Child Focus on Upcoming S.O.S Training(Signs of Suicide)
This episode with sit down with Krissie Myers from Child Focus. We learn about suicide prevention and what the signs of suicide training means to the district. Students in grades will 6th-12th grade will have the opportunity to participate in the program in February. Myers shares information regarding the Acronym ACT. We also talk about tips for families to be aware of when looking for signs of depression.
Staff will begin receiving training and prepare for the program over the next 2 months prior to implementation. Clermont Northeastern High School students will be participating in the program during the week of Feb 28, 2022. Clermont Northeastern Middle School students will be participating in the program during the week of Feb 7, 2022
SOS has been used by thousands of schools over the past few decades. Studies have shown that it effectively teaches students about depression and suicide while reducing the number of students’ self-reported suicide attempts.
Through the program, students learn:
- that depression is treatable, so they are encouraged to seek help
- how to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend
- to ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell a trusted adult) if concerned about themselves or a friend
- who they can turn to at school for help, if they need it
Students will watch age-appropriate video clips and participate in a guided discussion about depression, suicide, and what to do if they are concerned about a friend. Following the video, students will complete a response slip which asks whether they would like to talk to an adult about any concerns. School staff will conduct brief meetings with any student asking to talk.
Following the video, students will complete a brief depression screening tool. This tool cannot provide a diagnosis of depression but does indicate whether a young person should be referred for evaluation by a mental health professional.
We encourage you to visit www.sossignsofsuicide.org/parent for information on warning signs for youth suicide, useful resources, and some of the key messages students will learn.
We are including:
- An infographic for you to reinforce the ACT message at home
- An info sheet with resources
- Contact information about our Student Assistance Program.
If you have any questions or concerns or would like to opt your student(s) out of participating in this program please contact your students building administrator

Students push the work off until later, thinking they will do it after class.
You need to check on your kid to make sure they are online.
Keep track of their history on the computer. History on the phone.
Virtual learning takes more responsibility on the student’s behalf. We know you want to believe your child is responsible enough, but virtual is a different setting and there are distractions at home.
Kids need a quiet place in which they can work. Please have your child use just the school computer.
