The Incredibly True Adventure of DLDT
This week we're discussing The Incredibly True Adventure of 2 Girls in Love (1995) directed by Maria Maggenti starring Laurel Holloman (who many will know as Tina in The L Word) and Nicole Ari Parker.
We both LOVED this film and how realistic is it, I guess they weren't joking when they branded it "incredibly true."
It's such a comfort film, with the light hearted feel. So, join us, as we discuss new hobbies, Randy Dean being the crush of our 16yr old self and Becca's love for motel scenes.

San Junipero: Sapphics are Dramatic Enough to Die for Each Other
Join us for an episode of Heaven on Earth as this week we're discussing the Black Mirror episode San Junipero. From the sci-fi afterlife to the Yorkie chocolate bar "not for girls" slogan. We take a deep dive into time traveling sapphics, and for the first time disagree on whether or not ladies do that!

The Half of It - Alice Wu if you’re listening please make a second film
We discuss different elements of this film including the themes of teenage romance, the awkwardness felt as a queer teenager when getting changed for PE, how our first crush doesn’t mean they’re intended to be a first love and so much more!
The Miseducation of... Society
This week we’re discussing The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018) directed by Desiree Akhavan. It is an adaption to the 2012 book written by Emily M. Danforth.
As Becca says we discussing the miseducation of society while drawing similarities from Jamie Babbit’s satire in But I’m a Cheerleader (1999)
Comparing the book and the films visual elements and cutting the internal struggle of guilt, the importance of queer friendships and who do we blame for homophobia? The person themselves or society as a whole.
The film brought up a lot for thought for us and new information we didn’t know about,
So, join us, as we scream from the top of our lungs WHATS GOING ON? Why icebergs conflict our gay experience and wonder why queer friendships in media are pushed to become relationships.
Be Gay, Do Crime.
Have Some Courage, Like Anne Lister
Get your jaunty music at the ready because this week we're discussing the BBC/HBO series Gentleman Jack created by Sally Wainwright.
From our favourite Ann(e) to under-appreciation of Ann Walker's courage. We discuss our favourite scenes, the hill top proposal to bringing your thermometer on holiday. And the risky business of watching with your mum, as well as, how perfect the casting of Suranne Jones as Anne Lister and Sophie Rundle as Ann Walker was.
The fann(e)dom would definitely enjoy Shibden After Dark hosted by Leanne and Mary! they delve into each episode in much more detail than we do in this season 1 chat, so be sure to check them out!

Pause for the Pandemic
As you may have noticed we have moved from weekly release to biweekly release of episodes which we explain during the episode.
And how the GREAT PAUSE mentality has kind of passed, now that we're a year into the pandemic. As well as a little impromptu pep talk from us and a small discussion about the impact of COVID19 on mental health.
Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter and Instagram @DLDTPodcast for all our updates!!
NOTE: Becca's laptop was overheating, we apologise for that background sound. We're working on fixing this issue for future episode.

We are Generation Q
To follow up from last week’s episode we’re discussing the reboot of The L Word; The L Word: Generation Q.
Watching the OG show in comparison to the reboot is an amazing indicator of the changing times surrounding the views of sexuality, gender and even the development of technology as a whole.
We revisit Becca’s original predictions from the previous episode (so be sure to check that out.) We discuss the storylines we loved and the storylines we didn’t, the plot holes, our favourite of the new characters, our hopes and predictions for season 2. And wonder what links they will make back to the OG series this upcoming season.
We chat about the chances of Danette (Dani and Bette) becoming canon or whether Gigi and Dani should get together.
Who Sophie will go to at the airport?
Angie and Jordi’s young love.
Why Tina would have left to find herself yet be engaged to someone else less than a year later… Imagine waiting 10 years to find out your endgame ship are no longer together. So, of course, we couldn’t ignore TiBette and their current storyline.
Be sure to follow us @DLDTPodcast on Instagram and twitter
NOTE: we have decided to move to biweekly release of the podcast in order to continue to provide a high standard podcast for you. Though we say at the end of this episode join us next week, the next episode will be released April 1st 2021.
The L Word: It's Kind of Like Marmite
We discuss the difference in views between 2004-09 and now, this show is sadly riddled with biphobia and transphobia, and with the reboot we have high hopes they will fix their wrongs. It’s strange to see straight people be the minority, but we have seen no other show like it.
*SPOILER ALERT* We discuss the main storylines of each season and our favourite episode/season. As well as our favourite characters of them all. From season 5 supremacy to the disaster that is season 3.
At this point Becca hadn’t watched the Gen Q reboot, so she makes her predictions of where she thinks everyone will be in 10 years’ time.

Becca’s Queer Experience Growing Up Religious:
A Secret Love
In this week's episode we’re discussing the Netflix documentary A Secret Love (2020) directed by Chris Bolan.
This documentary follows Pat Henschel and Terry Donahue, giving us insight to their lives from how they met in 1947 to their careers to now moving into assisted living. They were together for over 65 years before telling anyone. it is a love story totalling 72 years.
It's a remarkable story having been a secret for such a long time and now the entire world has the potential to know.
Be sure to follow us @DLDTPodcast on twitter and instagram for all our updates!
Taking it One Day at a Time
This week we discuss One Day at a Time, season 1-4.
It’s a series on Netflix and PopTV that follows the Alverez’s; a Cuban-American family, as they navigate their daily life and the problems that get thrown their way.
The show is admirable as it tackles issues such as PTSD, depression, rape culture, queer issues, consent, addiction and many other taboo topics that other shows shy away from. It was significant to both our lives as it was the first time we has seen a queer character of similar ages to us.
As Becca said this show makes people feel seen, it makes people feel heard. There’s a character for everyone, there’s a relationship that reminds everyone of a relationship in their own life. It's really personal and realistic which makes for an amazing watch, if you need a laugh... or a cry. For differing reasons we both connected to Elena through being gay and standing up for what she believes in, as well as the relationship with her parents, perhaps, the most hard hitting of the show.
We discuss family taking time to become comfortable with coming out. After all, in the words of Lydia, who are we to judge? Who are we to against the Pope and God? as well as the human nature of focussing on the negatives, focussing on who doesn't accept us rather than who does. And keeping the memory of loved ones alive, through the character of Lydia's late husband, Berto.

It Is Technically Research...
in this week's episode we're recapping Imagine Me and You (2006) dir. Ol Parker, starring Piper Perabo as Rachel and Lena Headey as Luce. Join us as we find out what happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object. While we’re almost sure you would know your florist at your own wedding, it does set up for a great love at first sight story. From number 9 being a wanker to love scenes on rose petals to timely traffic jams, this film has everything you need for your wlw romantic comedy fix.
We discuss how selfish self-discovery can be, and why it’s completely fine to be, Rachel’s “research” and compare it to our own; the Buzzfeed “are you gay?” quiz. And draw comparisons between Jamie from Bly Manor and Luce. The moon flower is the new lily.

Queers Die for the Straight Eye
In this week’s episode we discuss the Bury Your Gay Trope. From its history to our first experience watching it on our screens.
We just want to put a TRIGGER WARNING on this episode, as there is discussion of death and LGBTQ+ suicide statistics throughout. If discussions of these topics are detrimental to your health please do not listen to this episode.
We discuss the trope’s variants from out of the closet and into the fire, the gay guy dies first and the, almost inevitable, homophobic hate crimes. The impact on the community when queer characters are scarce to find and how in some cases these fates are a stark reminder of reality for the LGBTQ+ community worldwide.
Our upset at the lack of happy endings are usually thrown the “anyone can die” argument which can be taken personally by many. Some of us often associate being queer with living an unhappy life or facing early death because that’s what we see on our screens.
We also touch upon the idea of chosen family and having a connection to other LGBTQ people unlike any other within our lives. As well as mentioning good representation such as Wynonna Earp and One Day at a Time. And our hopes for this trope and the lives of our future fictional LGBTQ+ characters.
Oh, and fuck Jenny Schecter

Cries in Homosexual
This week we’re recapping Jamie Babbit’s, 1999 film, But I’m a Cheerleader, starring Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall. We discuss washing machine kissing, our love for Graham and lesbian stereotypes. While Becca questions if this film is based on her own life, Molly discovers her root to lesbianism is similar to the characters. The satirical element of this film highlights the stereotypes and that we must fit into a particular category: boy or girls, pink or blue, gay or straight… or a cheerleader.
While Graham likes girls A LOT, Megan gets good grades, goes to church… she’s a cheerleader. And we follow their journey through True Directions, 5 step, conversion therapy programme. As they fall in love with a little help from the ex-ex gays and underground homo-rail road. Only Megan would get kicked out of a conversion camp for homosexual activity. Returning to win her love back, in the only way she knows how… with a cheer.
This relatable, comedic film is a light-hearted twist on a much more serious topic.

Disobedience; is it really selfish if it’s the love of your life?
Did Clea DuVall Contact You for This Plot?
This episode we’re recapping Clea DuVall’s lesbian Christmas romcom; Happiest Season.
While Molly loves the Christmas Season, Becca is a bit of a grinch. Family Christmas is never easy especially when reputation matters and you’re hiding a huge secret. We discuss our love for Jane and John, middle child syndrome, sibling rivalry, the toxicity of heteronormative society and the closet and being friends with your girlfriends ex. As well as drawing parallels to our own lives, which made this a very interesting and realistic watch and the what we think would happen had there been a different director.
With Becca’s focus on Aubrey Plaza and Molly’s on a dead fish subplot what more could you want from a Christmas themed film?
This is our final episode of 2020. We will be back with Disobedience (2017) January 7th 2021. Be sure to join us in the new year when we will continuously question do ladies do that?

It was misleading, but in a good way
We finally have Halloween lesbians!! For this week’s episode we’re chatting Netflix’s new horror, The Haunting of Bly Manor. We recap the love story of Jamie and Dani and the ghosts and curses that come along with it.
We loved that this story wasn’t filled with homophobia, in fact it didn’t have any, other than a ghost ex-boyfriend that we interpreted as comphet.
Note: at the end of this episode, we say we will recap Disobedience (2017) next week, we have decided to do an episode on Happiest Season instead, to take two weeks off over the holiday season.
That is Straight... Of course
In this week’s episode we discuss queerbaiting and the impact this can have on the LGBTQ+ community. A lot of the time we scrape up whatever queer content we can get, just to feel seen, is it better to have no LGBTQ characters than it is to riddle shows with queer coding or queerbaiting. Especially when this trope is born from homophobic censorships.
We discuss stereotypes the community falls into and how we believe we have evolved enough to not have to fit into boxes to be gay. There are more ways to be gay than being a typically masculine woman or typically feminine man.
We question who is to blame for queerbaiting? At this point, are they just including stereotypically queer characters to tick a diversity box? What is the impact on kids who aren’t seeing their family being represented? Is it a marketing strategy?
We realised throughout discussions of Pitch Perfect’s BeChloe, Once Upon a Time’s SwanQueen and Dead to Me that Molly seems to avoid shows that queerbait, or is completely oblivious to potentially queer characters, while Becca is passionately angered by the love stories that could have been.

Litchfield, ladies, lesbians Part 2
A big hetero hello to all of you! In part 2 of our Orange is the New Black episodes we discuss Nicky Nichols, Carrie “Big Boo” Black , Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren and everyone’s true love, Poussey Washington. As well as a whole lot of other LGBTQ characters and storylines.
Throughout this episode there are SPOILERS. As we focus on stereotype representation from sex obsessed to overly obsessive girlfriends and being a “baby gay”. As well as touching on prison injustice told through the death of our beloved P. The gay experience of unrequited love with your best friend AND our favourite straight couple in the series.
Be sure to give us a follow on twitter @DLDTPodcast for all our podcast updates.
Litchfield, ladies, lesbians Part 1
This episode is part 1 of 2 all about one of our favourite LGBTQ+ shows, Orange is the New Black. The show is based on Piper Kerman’s memoir under the same name. We’re chatting our favourite characters, couples and storylines throughout all 7 seasons.
While Molly watched this show in secret and Becca watched it openly, we both adore the diverse cast of characters and topics tackled throughout.
Coming to terms that most long-term couples in TV are toxic was difficult, but we love to hate Alex Vause and Piper Chapman (Vauseman.)
As all our listeners will come to realise, we’re suckers for good love stories with major flaws, but sometimes we wonder if it’s because this is the only representation we know…
All that’s left to say is thank you Jenji Kohan for creating this messy queer masterpiece that we all love. For breaking out hearts on multiple occasions but also allowing us to realise we were gay.
Join us next week for part 2 of our OITNB episode, where we chat a large selection of other LGBTQ+ characters within the show.
Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter @DLDTPodcast to get all our updates.
note: an error, in the episode we say Piper Chapman is sentenced to 15 years, in the show it is 15 months.
2019 Was a Dry Year to Include a Break-Up
From a group chat to co-hosts – this is how the British soap opera Emmerdale made Do Ladies Do That? In this week’s episode we discuss how Charity Dingle and Vanessa Woodfield, local vet, drunken kiss in the cellar of 2017 landed us in an amazing friendship surrounded online by many amazing LGBTQ+ women.
Charity’s relationship with Vanessa is the only stable relationship she has ever had. And her character development over the last 3 years has been nothing like we have ever seen before. Supporting each other through historical abuse, parental death, scams, kidnapping, cancer and now an adoption; Vanity are some of the best representation we have ever seen.
note: this episode was recorded a few weeks ago, therefore recently aired events are not included. We may have to do a follow up episode in a year’s time to see if our views of “best pairing” have changed.
Why we started Do Ladies Do That?
Welcome to the first episode of Do Ladies Do That? Hosted by Molly and Becca as we take our conversation out of the DMs and in to a podcast.
Join us, as we ramble about how we met, how the podcast came about. From The L Word to Gentleman Jack and all the way to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Orange is the New Black and Emmerdale, we share a discussion on characters that influenced us, realising you're LGBTQ+ and our hopes and plans for future episodes.
