To contemplate our death is an empowering and liberating act of kindness, to ourselves, each other and the earth that is our home.

Bonus Series: Visualising nature connectedness
Following on from the 50 episode-rich anthology of the #earthconversepodcast, Earth Converse offers a bonus series of future visualizations.
To help us step into life-affirming futures for ourselves, each other and the earth that is our home.
This visualization takes us back to basics about our connection with nature. Drawing on research led by Miles Richardson and the Nature Connectedness Research Group, it brings alive the 5 pathways: senses, emotions, beauty, meaning and compassion. Research that also shows (as our hearts know) the more connected with nature we feel, the greater our life satisfaction and wellbeing, and the more likely we are to take actions which care for the planet.

Episode 49: Martina Tadli, natural resourcing
What is your ‘covid inspired’ nature re-connection story?
In this week’s #earthconversepodcast, communication coach and facilitator Martina Tadli articulates what many people have experienced in this ‘covid time’..a story of reconnecting with nature. Even those who don’t have easy access to it. In doing so, she reminds us of the value of small steps of attention and gratitude. And she gives voice to her collaboration with Catherine Andrews. Together they have created Natural Resourcing to help leaders and professionals thrive at work, through engaging with nature.
And rather than closing things down, we open things up at the end – where she beautifully shares deeply personal stories of her own nature connection, including of ancestral healing. And an invitation to try solo time in nature.

Episode 48: Nando García Ferreiro, experienced beginner
To what end?
Nando has been on an existential inquiry since childhood. Which has led to an ‘obsession of competence’, to prepare for judgement and be in service to others. A path which has included being the Director of Health and Wellbeing with the European Commission. And confirmed by the death of his beloved mother, a calling to be of service to dying people and collapsing communities.
We talk about death and eternity, facing our fears, the 4 power animals and authentic relationships in organisations, praying to the earth, valuing time and credibility, and going beyond the more than human community. And the aspirations of being an elder.
We end with a little poem and meditation.

Episode 47: Mirjam Wagner, with yin for life
How are you embracing life?
Wild wise woman Mirjam Wagner, who is committed to her soul path and in helping others, has just released her book Yin For Life. We delve into her writing journey “another round of healing”, as itself an example of embracing the yin and the yang. And resonating deeply with Bill Plotkin (episode 40) she brings her own perspective of wildness being wholeness. A dancer of light and dark embracing it all, she talks about the vulnerability of the invisible, jumping into the void, being the artist and the butcher, freedom and responsibility of making our choices, female archetypes, and being a ‘lone wolf’ and in a conscious relationship, amongst it all.
“I wish that we open up to all aspects to which mother nature offers us and which we are made of”.
And beautifully, she shares her hope for Mallorca. And offers us a body, mind and soul blessing to close our conversation.

Episode 46: Emilie Janda, with art.body.mind
What is your intuition intention?
If you have been tuning into the #earthconversepodcast, you will know that intuition is a key theme. And in this week’s episode, we have the joy of Emilie Janda, who with her colleague Lena through their beautiful offerings at Art.Body.Mind help people access their intuition.
“Whether you want to think of it as something mystic or a tool, intuition wants to play with you”. Emilie as a communicator, coach, energy healer and art dealer is playful and pragmatic, with both science and the mystical in her pockets. And here she talks about knowing, accessing and trusting our intuition. As well as leisure travel in the cosmos, past and future lives, curiousity and intentionality. And connecting to nature with her heart.

What background stories do you weave?
Turning the tables in this #earthconversepodcast episode, dear friend Susanne Haegele (guest on episode 31) interviews me, your podcast host.
I did not know what she was going to ask. But she said she had some magnificent questions. And that she did. Around my own self exploration and conscious practices, coaching, facilitation and international leadership work, core wounds, love and healing. Episode 43: Jonathan Stevens, amongst leaders
What is your people and place lifeline?
Based on an exercise we often ask leaders to undertake, I asked fellow consultant and geographer Jonathan Stevens to talk us through his lifeline: those significant moments where he has deepened his connection with himself, others and the earth.
Here he is talking remote places, a recurring dream, being starstruck, love and family, facing death, outrunning demons, running into inspirational figures, volunteering and chairing, taking teams in wild places, coaching leaders... And learning a bit on the way.

Episode 42: Jean-Claude Pierre, an enlightened executive
How are you thinking differently?
Jean-Claude Pierre is not your typical chemical industry leader I would suggest.
In the industry, following the legacy of his grandfather, it was through an encounter with Natural Step founder Karl-Henrik Robèrt that he realized the harm it creates in the world, and started his path in sustainability. A philosopher and pragmatist, a reflective practitioner, he bridges business and academic worlds. He even did his PhD on sustainability and ancient Chinese wisdom whilst working in China. Our conversation explores hopes and challenges for the industry, green chemistry and biomimicry, systemic change, levels of consciousness, nested circles, self management and autonomous teams amongst it all.
And leading with conviction and curiousity.

Episode 40: Bill Plotkin, Cocoon Weaver
When will you take the descent to soul?
The 40th episode of the #earthconversepodcast is with (my rockstar equivalent!) visionary eco-psychologist Bill Plotkin.
Bill is a soul initiation guide and “agent of death’, and founder of Animas Valley Institute. For over 40 years he has accompanied thousands of people to take the descent to soul, to discover and embody their ecological niche. And thanks to an invitation from his publisher New World Library, he is here to talk about his latest enlightening book The Journey of Soul Initiation: A Field Guide for Visionaries, Evolutionaries, and Revolutionaries. A detailed map and set of practices for the journey, never been conceptualized and articulated in this way before.
In our conversation as with the book, rich with metaphor and rigor, he weaves the analogy of the butterfly and moth, the metaphor of ‘Soul Canyon’ and his own story. And gives us a feel of what people actually experience, bringing in stories of Carl Jung, Joanna Macy and lesser known courageous souls. In doing so, coaxing, urging us to engage with Mystery, to take the journey and truly love and serve the world.

Episode 38, Emma Taylor, eARTh lover
What is your knowing?
Love is responsible for many things, and in this week’s episode of the #earthconversepodcast, Emma Taylor tells us the story that took her from the wilds of Wales to the industrial heartland of England. We talk about her human relations journey working in the automobile industry, the beauty and artfulness of Japanese manufacturing, and the “niggle that became a question” for her in the industry.
Following her own inquiry, she shares how she confronted her own patterns and beliefs and delved into different ways of knowing. Including tapping into her own intuition with and through nature.
She gives us a feel for the ways we can honour our creativity and access the knowledge and wisdom found in our expressive nature. Offerings which also invite leaders in organisations to enter into a new ecological conversation.

What choices are you making?
Being labelled with an ‘incurable illness’ Pauline Scanlon has sought ways to look after herself and make choices about her own healing. To learn about discernment and seek what feels congruent for her. For the last 20 years she has chosen to follow her mentor Michelangelo Chieccha’s The System of Natural Life. Episode 35: Sophia Style, cyclical woman
What cycles are you recognizing and honoring within you?
Sophia Style is this week’s #earthconversepodcast guest. She founded Mujer Ciclica, to ‘share with women what helped me to live in a more accepting and loving way to myself as a woman’.
A student of anthropology, it was healing her own menstrul pain that lead to her transformation. And which “opened up so many doorways” including understanding nature’s cycles were also her own, and how feminine rites of passage are honored in other cultures.
We talk about her journey, connecting with feminine wisdom and making her ‘own tapestry’.
And we explore the sacred, the intimate, taboos and cultural appropriation.
And we bring in the masculine: “it is a very powerful time now between the feminine and the masculine” and the collective conversations that are needed for our healing.
And as a special offering at the end, Sophia leads a ceremony in both Spanish and English, to honour the forthcoming Celtic Imbolc. This is a festival of regeneration which lands between the winter solstice and the spring equinox (around 1 and 2 February). Bring seeds and a candle!

Episode 31: Susanne Haegele, responsible citizen
Where are you putting the responsibility for your wellbeing?
European yoga teacher, translator, and writer – and friend Susanne Haegele is this week’s #earthconversepodcast guest. Our free flowing conversation, ends up covering 4 areas:
Growing up with a European consciousness and confronting her Franco-Germanic upbringing creating a sense of responsibility and a commitment "to understand how the world works”. Which lead her to study Political Science, join the Foreign Civil Service and become a translator. And to understand what it means to be a bridge builder between cultures.
Her own deeper healing inner journey to explore parts of herself including beyond role, identity and labels and to seek her own wellbeing. Including reinventing herself, understanding her values and what environment works best for her. And significantly a journey into yoga and women’s health.
The collective birth of her intergenerational beautifully pragmatic book, Hormonal Healing (in French, English and Spanish). We touch on 3 of its chapters, and Susanne gives tips on movement, disconnection and connection. Including connecting with our inner voice.
We finish with a little bit of jealousy, permaculture and a more natural way of being. And inspirational and tangible actions we can make, including becoming informed citizens.

Episode 30: B. Lorraine Smith, systems spinner and weaver
What is your story in the system?
This week’s #earthconversepodcast conversation is with B. Lorraine Smith - writer, creator and sustainability consultant. She is also a knitter “more of a spinner”, and a weaver – and a long-distance runner. And she brings this into her work and thinking. She is also a bridge, a source finder, kaleidoscope viewer, signal listener, gap filler, fluff finder, idea sharer, questioner and ‘random not-always invited guest’ amongst other things. We don’t do a linear 'relationship with nature' conversation (for that you can access the episode extras) but she weaves it in her journey. Moreover we explore what is emerging in nature awareness and being on the ‘fertile edges’. Important questions driving her are: 'how much is the problem me? and how can I contribute to solving it? And this leads to supply chains, industrial processes and transparency in corporates and “if I ever want to know an answer to a question, I will ask a farmer”.
We also talk of her understanding and exploration of human potential through her own experience of running. What happens when that exponential mindset filters into their drinking fountain? And she relates this to bigger issues such as urbanization and transport planning “what would it look like to be in the city and have those feelings?
And we explore the metaphor and art of spinning in systemic change: turning ‘fluff’ into something with integrity that is ‘ready to contribute to a structure’.
And we finish with compost! “my worms have told me so much about how life works”

Episode 29: Ray Hillis, a true elder returns
What realities are you exploring?
I feel very grateful that ‘true elder’ Ray Hillis who I interviewed on episode 14 of the #earthconversepodcast, has returned for this courageous conversation. To explore pathways to consciousness, psyche and the soul, focusing on hallucinogenics, art and dreams.
In doing so he highlights the difference between reality and consensual reality.
Enroute we talk about the current context, miracles, disruptors and change. We also explore cognitive enhancing drugs in the workplace and cannabis justice being racial and environmental justice. And archetypes and ego.
A ‘mind blowing’ conversational opportunity with a wise and wonderful soul.
So many gems including…
“These forces of change are tapping into what wants to be born”
“What is out there is relative to who is there to see it”
“One of the attractions of having a psychedelic experience is the way you get an opportunity to let go of consensual reality for a time”
“Getting too tightly locked into a consensual reality prevents exploring art”
“We have a sacred responsibility to live the life we have been given”
“The ego desperately wants to feel what we do know”
“Ultimately we don’t know what reality is”
“Learning to give the ego courage to let go”

Episode 27: Cori Wright Deily, with hope, faith and courage
How are you stepping into your wholeness?
This week’s #earthconversepodcast guest is Cori Wright Deily, wilderness guide therapist, mum, farmer.. and the 4th member of the Southwest Passage team. And she is stepping into her wholeness and womanhood.
She reflects on her first conversation with a Juniper Tree, and how it was "overwhelming to start this path", "from being so disconnected to being so connected”. Awareness of the bigness of the earth, the conversations and how heavy it can feel, she stepped back. “I needed to hang out with some dead people”.
We talk about talking to children about death, grief and the cycle of life. And we talk about the pain of separateness. And stepping into courageous conversations in modern and Covid19 times. As she concludes “there are ways of having a conversation that doesn’t pull people apart”. We talk about hope and it turns out she is very hopeful (there’s a super lovely surprise announcement) and inspiration from the ‘father of permaculture’ Masanobu Fukuoka, and his book Sowing Seeds in the Desert.
Throughout, she shares her journey into wholeness, including somatic experiencing and trauma training. Of learning “to always come with deep curiosity, assuming nothing and to ask one more question”. And ‘there is a place to fiercely take a stand, particularly for women”. Claiming permission to “shake and rage”, embrace the sacred and profound “profanity brought me back to life!” she seeks to integrate all parts of herself.
And she talks about her work, from working with ‘wealthy whites to ‘invisible people’. Of bringing nature into her social justice work, her teachings and her offerings of taking sexual abuse survivors to the land for healing and ceremony.
And she reminds us that we are not alone.

What impact would you like to have?
David Williams, founder of independent, multi-award-winning, global people development agency Impact International, is this week’s #earthconversepodcast guest.
Dave shares the pivotal impactful moments of his journey so far. All rooted in nature, outdoors and adventure. Starting with his humble farming background. Including finding himself at 10 years old asking “what am I going to do with my life?”
And how a 4-week Outward Bound course changed his life. “I realised I had capabilities beyond my imagination” and from that, resolved that “whatever those people have done to me, I want to do that to other people”.
Thereby embarking on an intentional path to become an outdoor instructor and being among the pioneers of experiential outdoor training. And significantly, creating and growing Impact International, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Dave shares his gems, ‘gets philosophical’ about nature, talks about intuition and liberating human potential. And he gives his view on reimagining a future and poses questions for us to contemplate in these times. And touches on how the Camino de Santiago helped him face the death of his beloved wife Ann. Episode 23: Malu, Tess and Lily, just chatting
How are you embracing your weirdness?
This week’s #earthconversepodcast, I bring in three pre-teen friends Malu, Tess and Lily to talk about their life in Puigpunyent, a little mountain village in the island of Mallorca.
We talk about their connection with nature.
And their future and the future of the planet.
As well as potatoes. "What do you mostly talk about? "Potatoes".
As well as covid19 quarantine, imaginary friends and fur friends, where good ideas and questions come from, naming non-human beings, death and déjà vu, reincarnation, same and uniqueness, what makes a good friendship..….and the 50:50 of having a phone. And importantly wanting to be a zebra or a chicken. And giving a message to the world ( 47 mins)
(And if you are curious about Lily's comment about her bedroom wall decoration, you will want to check out this http://isab.live )

Episode 22: Calvan Daniels, stepping into adultship
What is your journey into adultship?
Calvan Daniels' story is a beautiful example of a young man tragically losing his dad, and honouring his passing. He talks about how his father’s death became a stepping stone to appreciating life and helping others. “I am walking in his footsteps and creating my own”, through wilderness work. Including working for USIKO which is part of his father’s legacy: an NGO focused on guiding and supporting young people becoming caring and responsible adults.
Significantly he talks about how his first solo in nature “was the gateway into my adult life” and how he is committed to becoming “a more responsible adult”. With a mission to be a positive influence and role model and a leader in the community. He passionately talks about he hopes to inspire young people, and the 3 key questions he offers, to help their transition into adulthood and make positive choices in their life. (35 mins)

Episode 21: Jim Marsden, pathfinder
How do you find alignment?
Ambitious, hard-working and an avid learner, Jim was deep in business and strategy in the corporate world of Hewlett-Packard and had a young family. Loving it all and.. finding himself out of alignment. “I could see where it was going and it wasn't great".
So he took himself to the Karakorum Mountains – an experience which gave him perspective and which became a ‘foundation for what was to follow’. This included going to a Bill Plotkin and David Whyte ‘Nature, Poetry and the Soul’ session. Which led to a vision quest with Animus Valley, where he got confirmation of his role and gifts as a pathfinder.
We talk about how he learnt to integrate his two world’s of Hewlett Packard and his guiding: paying more attention to people and nature as a partner. And how he now works with start up entrepreneurs, CEO’s, venture capitalists with coaching company, Reboot. Helping them reconnect with what matters and how business can contribute positively to the world, through our humanity. And the practices that can support us on that path.
And there is a bear encounter story.

Episode 20: Lynda Aldridge, adventuring together
How are you living your passions?
Lynda Aldridge’s story transverses countries...and continents and is threaded by a passion for the outdoors and for adventuring together. It includes having Table Mountain as a playground, hiking as a fundamental family connector, and the important role of scouting.
It is a quietly courageous and pragmatic example of connecting (and re-connecting) with our passions, how contagious a parent’s passion (for the outdoors) can be for a child, how we can set and achieve our goals, and how we may inspire and help others. (47 mins)
