ROX Index: Predicting High-Flow Nasal Cannula Outcomes
The ROX index is defined as the ratio of oxygen saturation as measured by pulse oximetry (SpO2)/FIO2 to respiratory rate (RR). It stands for Respiratory rate - OXygenation. ROX ≥ 4.88 at 2, 6, and 12 hours means they're likely in the safe zone. ROX < 2.85 at 2 hours, ROX < 3.47 at 6 hours, ROX < 3.85 at 12 hours means the patient likely needs to be intubated.  Show Notes: www.eddyjoemd.com/rox Receive a FREE audiobook (TWO for Amazon Prime members) with your FREE 30-day trial by using my link for Audible: CLICK HERE! Fix the Magnesium Deficiency Before the Potassium Deficiency!
When patients have hypokalemia, you want to fix it. So you give potassium to make the numbers pretty.  You go ahead and give some potassium and do what the protocol says to do: recheck.
