By Education for Sustainability MSc

The podcast comes from the Education for Sustainability (EfS) Master’s degree at LSBU. We have developed this learning space to share and discuss key concepts that are central to the course. We are exploring alternative learning platforms whereby the EfS teaching team, students and alumni share their experiences and knowledge of EfS and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) theory and practice.

Dr Glenn Strachan talks to Dr Rolf Jucker

Dr Rolf Jucker, an alumnus of the Education for Sustainability Masters
course, is interviewed about his latest book by Dr Glenn Strachan. The
book called ‘Can We Cope with the Complexity of Reality’ analyses the
reasons behind some of the crises facing humanity and why people find it
difficult to confront these crises and change their behaviours. The
discussion covers Dr Jucker’s learning journey in relation to writing
the book, as well as key themes such the challenge of achieving a
trans-disciplinary perspective on reality, the importance of an
evidence-based approach to knowledge and education, the need to reinvent
democracy and a critical look at education for sustainable development.
Dr Jucker emphasises in particular the need to acknowledge the limits to
human perception and cognition and discusses how this impacts on finding
