What is Learning by Teaching (German: Lernen durch Lehren)? Lernen durch Lehren (Learning by Teaching) is a teaching method that involves students in the process of teaching a subject to others. The approach is based on the idea that the act of teaching promotes deeper understanding and retention of knowledge. In a Lernen durch Lehren setting, students are assigned the task of presenting and teaching a portion of the course material to their peers. This can take the form of group presentations, individual mini-lessons, or other forms of peer instruction. By assuming the role of the teacher, students are encouraged to take an active role in their own learning and to engage in reflection and critical thinking. The method is used across a range of subjects and has been shown to be effective in promoting student motivation, engagement, and achievement. Developed by Jean-Pol Martin in the 1980s, the LDL approach similar to the protégé effect. We look at 5 steps to give clearer classroom instructions proposed by Jim Scrivener in his book 'Learning Teaching'. In language classes teachers have to give instructions for activities in a new language even though their learners may not have a very good command of the language. This means that teachers need to use classroom language which is natural but clear, simple and familiar to learners so that they can understand what to do.

What is the Engage Study Activate teaching method? The Engage Study Activate (ESA) teaching method emphasizes active learning in a meaningful context. This method is based on the idea that students learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process and when they are exposed to authentic and meaningful language use. The ESA method is often used in the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach, which emphasizes the use of real-life, communicative activities in the classroom. The three stages of the ESA method are: 1) Engage: The teacher begins a lesson by engaging students through activities that activate their prior knowledge and create interest in the topic. 2). Study: Students engage in activities that allow them to study the language and grammar structures in a meaningful context. 3) Activate: Students activate their knowledge by practicing and applying what they have learned in a communicative task. The teacher provides feedback and correction during the tasks and activities, to help students improve their language use. What is the Practice Presentation Production Teaching Method? The Practice-Presentation-Production (PPP) teaching method is a method for foreign language instruction that emphasizes the gradual development of language skills through a sequence of activities. This method is based on the idea that language learning is a process that involves practice, presentation, and production. The PPP method is often used in the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach, which emphasizes the use of real-life, communicative activities in the classroom.  The three stages of the PPP method are: *Practice: The teacher provides opportunities for students to practice language structures and vocabulary through controlled activities such as drills, exercises, and games. *Presentation: The teacher presents new language structures and vocabulary in context, using authentic materials such as dialogues, texts, and videos. *Production: The students are encouraged to use the language they have learned in communicative activities such as role-plays, discussions, and presentations.  This method focuses on the development of all language skills, such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing. What is Communicative Language Teaching? Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is a teaching method that emphasizes developing learners' ability to communicate effectively in the target language using authentic language in real-life situations. It focuses on holistic development of language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with the goal of producing competent and confident communicators.

What is The Silent Way? The Silent Way is a language teaching method developed by Caleb Gattegno in the 1970s that emphasizes learner autonomy and minimal teacher talk. The method is based on the idea that the teacher should remain "silent" as much as possible, allowing the students to discover language for themselves through visual aids and their own experimentation. This approach aims to foster self-expression and independent thinking, rather than relying on rote memorization and repetition. It also employs Cuisenaire rods for demonstration and coloured Fidel charts for pronunciation.

What is the Suggestopedia Teaching Method? Suggestopedia is a 1970s teaching method that uses suggestion and psycho-physiology to create a relaxed and motivating environment for language learning. The method aims to help learners overcome psychological blocks and tap into their unconscious resources for learning. The teacher uses a variety of techniques, including drama, storytelling, and positive suggestion, to create an atmosphere of positive expectations and to encourage students to believe in their ability to learn the target language.

Community Language Learning (CLL) is a student-centered teaching method that promotes language learning through interactive communication within a supportive community setting. What is the total physical response method? Total Physical Response (TPR) is a language teaching method that uses physical movement and gestures to facilitate language learning. It involves the teacher giving commands in the target language, and students responding with physical actions. What is the Audio Lingual Method (ALM)? The Audio-Lingual Method, also known as the Army Method or New Key, is a teaching method for foreign languages that emphasizes the use of repetitive drills and patterns to teach language skills. This method is based on the idea that language learning is similar to habit formation, and that language can be acquired through repetition and practice. The focus of the method is on the development of listening and speaking skills, rather than reading and writing, and it is typically used to teach practical, everyday language.

What is the Direct Method? The Direct Method, also known as the Natural Method, is a teaching method for foreign languages that emphasizes the use of the target language as the primary means of instruction. What is the Grammar-Translation Method? It is a traditional approach to teaching foreign languages that emphasizes the translation of texts from the target language into a student's native language. Historically, this method has been used to teach classical languages like Latin and Greek, but it is also used to teach modern languages, especially in academic settings. As part of a GTM curriculum, students typically study a textbook, memorize grammar rules, learn vocabulary, and complete translation exercises focused on developing reading and writing skills.
