2019 NPR Student Podcast Challenge: 9-11 A Moment in History -A Day to Be Remembered

Students investigate if 9/11 is an event in history that all students should learn about. Interviews are conducted with teachers, one of which includes a teacher who was a student at the time 9/11 took place in our middle school. One of the main segments includes the perspective of a flight attendant who was on one of the planes that hit the Twin Towers in New York.
2019 NPR Student Podcast Challenge: Kneeling During the Anthem
Submission to the 2019 NPR Student Podcast Challenge
Students have controversial discussions about Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem. Perspectives from key public figures such as Kaepernick himself, President Trump and others are shared through a mock debate to kick off the podcast. Students learn about the history of the national anthem from one of our teachers and discuss protesting for a cause you believe in with one of our guidance counselors. The students also share their personal beliefs about if this was the most respectful way to protest and who could have been offended by this act.

Teens often insert an eye roll when an adult tells them to stop doing that snappy chatty thing, leaving them to think that Grown-Ups Just Don’t Understand Social Media! The 7th grade students in Mrs. Heim’s Public Speaking Class wanted to find out if this is actually true! In their podcast episode, you’ll hear interviews with several Blake students and teachers to uncover if it is a myth or reality!
