Desert Island DVDs - Episode 18 with Ian Wilson

On this Episode we were joined by Lecturer & Editor Ian Wilson

The podcast is simple - We ask our guests to pick 6 movies to keep them company on their Desert Island alone.

The first 3 picks are three favourite films of all time which can keep you company in your isolation.

However, the other 3 films you pick have to fit some criteria.

The Tommy Wiseau pick

Pick a film which is critically panned, a film which most people hate but you love. This is a chance to change people's minds and convince them it is a great movie.

The Barry Jenkins pick

Barry Jenkins makes beautifully sad films which make us cry. But what film could you screen which would make most of the audience cry at your cinema?

The Party Pick

A communal affair. Choose something that will make the audience feel good when they go back to their own island.

Podcast with Director/Writer Claire Fowler and Editor Alec Styborski

Podcast with Director/Writer Claire Fowler and Editor Alec Styborski

We were honored to welcome a wonderful UK filmmaker, Claire Fowler, and her talented editor Alec Styborski.

Originally from North Wales, Claire began her career making documentary films; now she directs scripted television dramas in the UK and the US. Alec also has many great film and TV credits. Both Claire and Alec currently work in Los Angeles and New York.

In this podcast, we focused s on Claire’s work as a writer/director and her creative collaboration with her editor, Alec. Most recently, they worked together on Claire’s award-winning short film Salam.

Salam is beautifully written and directed by Claire, and beautifully edited by Alec.

Salam has won many awards and nominations at festivals including the London Film Festival, San Francisco Indiefest, and the ECU European Independent Film Festival.

Salam is critically- acclaimed for its character-driven story and absolute lack of stereotypes. This is also why we love Salam.

Claire and Alec, thank you so much for joining us!
