Chuck Vs. The World

Chuck Vs. The World

Hello & Welcome To Food For Nerds!

Today's episode marks the end of November, and therefore the conclusion of favorites month! A big shoutout to our guests for this month and to all of our listeners who came to hear Jake and Kendra speak on some of the fandoms they love. This week here their final discussion on Jake's favorite TV show, Chuck, as they break down why exactly the show was so beloved and how the fandom itself saved the show from extinction on more than one occasion.

This episode also marks a bittersweet moment for the podcast as the end of season 1. We've been nonstop working on this project since July. None of this team had any idea what we were doing when we started, we were just a group of friends having some fun. So, life and work are making us not be able to push out the quality of content we want to. Although, don't despair! We may be taking a break from our usual format but, you'll still be getting some fantastic bonus episodes and fun, festive content through the month of December. And, our normal format will be returning in the new year!

This spy-drama/comedy that aired from 2007-2012 has had a profound impact on Jake's life and is the perfect example of how fandoms work together. Based around a tech guy turned spy, Chuck follows the adventure of an average guy who suddenly possesses all of the government's secrets and how he and his handlers deal with serious threats to national security. This week Kendra and Jake sit down to discuss the overall story, some of the casting choices, and the soundtrack. Plus, hear some great stories from Jake about what it was like to watch the show while it was on air!  Follow Us: Instagram: @foodfornerdspodcast Twitter: https://twitter.com/KLastoskie?s=09 Join Kendra of Tik Tok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMJS5pKKn/ Reserach:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_(TV_series) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0934814/ https://ew.com/tv/tv-reunions/chuck-creators-finale-movie-revival/ https://chuck-nbc.fandom.com/wiki/Home Have a wonderful week and join us next Saturday as we dive into some of our favorite moments from the show and discuss how the fandom really changed the show and even saved it.

Living in a "Teenage Dream" with Ella Moore

Living in a "Teenage Dream" with Ella Moore

Hello and Welcome to Food For Nerds!

This week we're continuing "favorites" month by inviting another special guest for part 2 of our discussion on Glee! Today, Kendra sits down with Ella Moore (@elmoore231) who is the self-proclaimed leader of the "Warblers Cult" on Tik Tok. Followed by multiple actors from the show and boasting an impressive audience of over 5,000, Ella has built a brand for herself by knowing anything and everything about the characters from the fictional show choir based out of Dalton Academy.

First appearing in the show in 2010 during season 2 episode 6 (Never Been Kissed) the Warblers were an instant fan favorite on Glee. Today they still hold a special place in most gleeks hearts, with some of the most beloved songs and characters to ever appear on the show. They boast a talented array of actors in their ranks including Darren Criss, Curt Mega, Grant Gustin, Riker Lynch, & Jon Robert Hall (and many more!). But, why do these boys in blazers STILL have such a dedicated fan base nearly 10 years from when they first appeared on the show? That's what Kendra and Ella will be trying to figure out today by dissecting the characters, the songs, and the stories! Plus, there might be some fangirling along the way...

Harry Potter and the Life of Fan Culture

Harry Potter and the Life of Fan Culture

Hello & Welcome to Food For Nerds!

Welcome back to spooky moth, where we take the weeks leading up to Halloween to explore the world of witches, wizards, and magical beasts! This week, Kendra and Diane are taking over the podcast again to continue their discussion on Harry Potter. Today they're taking an in-depth look into fan culture. From classic Youtube videos to videogames, and festivals... Kendra and Diane are going to explore it all, give their opinions, and explain how each of these things has impacted the fandom.

Unfortunately, due to uncontrollable circumstances, a large portion of the audio for this episode was unusable. Through the magic of editing, Kendra was able to complete the episode, but it isn't exactly what we wanted to bring you and it much shorter than our episodes normally are. It also is not up to the high standards we like to hold ourselves to. However, we really wanted you to hear this conversation and also not take a break since you all expressed such an interest in us talking about these concepts. Because of this, we'll also be bringing you some bonus content this week to hopefully make up for it. So, keep an eye out for that!

Hello and Welcome to Food For Nerds!

This week Kendra and Jake wanted to take on a topic that was a little more unique and niche. Rather than a "traditional" media fandom, they're going to explore the world of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series. Their discussion, based on the fabulous documentary "Pretending I'm a Superman," will explore how the games impacted the public's view of skate culture. Also, hear exactly what Kendra and Jake think about the cultural icon himself...Tony Hawk!

Composing Symposium

Composing Symposium

Hello and Welcome to Food For Nerds!

This week our co-host Jake takes the reigns and tackles the topic of soundtracks in media. From popular films to TV shows and composers, Jake teaches Kendra the history of soundtracks and music in the entertainment industry. Kendra adds a bit of psychology to the mix as she helps explore how music interacts with the brain and why you may have vivid memories tied to specific types of music and media. Also, uncover a secret love of Phil Collins, learn more than you wanted to about the soundtrack to Shrek, and discover how the soundtracks to movies such as a Streetcar name Desire, James Bond, and Star Wars still have an impact in our society today.

Geronimo!  Welcome to Food For Nerds, the podcast all about celebrating fan culture that takes an in-depth look at the psychological and societal impacts of fandoms. This week, join Kendra and Jake as they discuss the wild and wonderful world of fanfiction! While Jake learns some new terms and discovers new ways to look at fan-made content, Kendra takes us back to her days as a fanfiction author and beta. Their conflicting views and experiences create a dynamic discussion about the ins and outs of fanfiction and its impacts on fandom culture. Trigger Warning: This episode is explicit and the discussion includes mentions of self-harm, NC-17/M rated fictions, and various mental health disorders. Although not graphic and there are only slight mentions of these things, we suggest that some of you may want to proceed with caution.  Follow Us:   Instagram: @foodfornerdspodcast Twitter: @klastoskie Shoutouts & Thank Yous:  -Shoutout to the Team Starkid Fans group chat for talking with Kendra about your experiences!
