The Work Abroad Episode
We talk about our experiences living and working in the UK, US, Hong Kong, and Singapore, through the study abroad route and others. We also briefly touch on family and friends who made a move to the US, Canada, or are considering moving to Australia. We talk about this from our perspective as Filipinos and the accompanying potential challenges this entails.
Andrea also talks about finding work as a digital/marketer in Hong Kong versus Singapore, and the things she wishes she had known earlier to help make job hunting abroad easier, and how all this has changed with the pandemic.
Stay tuned for the next episode where we dive deeper into the job hunt experience such as interview questions to prepare for and working culture in different countries.

Halloween special part I
Interrupting our usual Monday release with a Halloween episode Part I! In this episode we share creepy experiences that happened in our homes, Filipino superstition and folklore. We also talk about our sleep paralysis experiences. (Andrea's note: I never mentioned how my "waking up" actually meant I could move my eyes and body and I'm conscious of my surroundings, but my brain is still in some sort of dream state! Is there such a thing as the opposite of sleep paralysis?)
Watch out for part II of this series!

Ep 10: On being a Filipino scientist
We have more to say on The Social Dilemma but we thought it would be more relevant at this time for Kirstie to reflect on what it takes to be a Filipino scientist, the recent criticism the scientific community has received from the PH government, her work as a Filipino physicist researching nuclear energy in the UK, and how it might apply in the Philippine context.
Check out the IG @pinoyscientists, which features Filipino scientists all over the world (including Kirstie!)

The Social Dilemma: Harmful Habits, Millennial Musings and Google Analytics
We get down to our discussion proper of The Social Dilemma:
- Do we agree with its message?
- What are our own social media habits?
- How much does growing up millennials influence our ability to handle social media?
We talk about our suspicions regarding how well and how much the Internet actually knows us, and how this might get translated into a digital marketing strategy. Lastly, we take a peek under the hood of one of Andrea's projects -- PinoyHome.biz, an online directory of small businesses -- to see what Google Analytics can say about a website's users.

Prelude to The Social Dilemma: Registering as an OFW, Conspiracy Theories and Catchups
We wanted to talk about The Social Dilemma, a documentary on Netflix illustrating the harmful effects of too much social media exposure, but we got carried away discussing other things during our catchup, including:
- life updates (learning how to ride a bike as an adult; an update on lockdown measures in the UK / Manchester),
- the process of registering as an OFW (overseas Filipino worker) and the mandatory(?) sex education seminar it entails,
- and the conspiracy theories we've encountered, debunked, and are most likely to believe in.

- Agapito Flores and the fluorescent lamp
- the Filipino "inventor" of the moon buggy
- Appendicitis as caused by tomato seeds
- Who really was the first to circumnavigate the world
- The band that Andrea was told was antichrist
and more!

Ep 3: Being Your Own Life Coach
In today’s episode of For A While, we start off talking about the recently trending hilarious Aunt Julie, a character by Macoy Dubs, before chatting about self doubt and negative self talk. We then discuss the benefits of a life coach, breakthroughs, habit building and how journaling can be a great tool to help process your thoughts.
We end the episode on things we can do to help process experiences, particularly during a pandemic, including:
- Acknowledge these are ‘abnormal’ times
- It is 100% normal to not feel completely okay
- Recognise that even when there isn’t a pandemic, change is uncomfortable
- Be kind to yourself
- Figure out a way to make everyday tasks a little simpler, a little more enjoyable for you
- What are your needs/essentials on a daily/weekly basis to feel good?
- Get a little bit of sunshine and fresh air regularly
- Prioritise your sleep
We’ve put together a free resource for journaling. If you’d like to start writing but don’t know where to start, this is for you. Included in the resource are prompts, tips and examples to help you use journaling as a tool to process your thoughts.
P.S. We recorded this podcast just right after Aunt Julie said she'll be taking a break. We're glad she's back to her old Aunt Julie self!
