I recently published my first book July 1 called Calmed.Growth After Trauma I just recently resigned from teaching after 12 years to start my own business to continue writing and helping others right, as well as helping veterans and their families. I have created a wellness course based on a healing framework that I would like to reach the families and friends of veterans. Eventually I would like to help people from all areas of trauma and struggle not just our veteran families. What were some small shifts in your mindset that you started doing to help get you to where you are today?: Well there is definitely a turning point when I started to educate myself on post traumatic growth. That has helped me to identify different ways to get more in touch with myself, practice mindfulness, and a whole lot of self-care.
What breakthroughs have you had in life?: I would say the last year and a half there has been a number of breakthroughs. One of the first would be suffering from a head injury in February 2020 which then led to a rough recovery. Once identified that I was not in a good place emotionally, I knew I had to do something to get out of my funk. So from there I decided to get back to writing and write the book I told myself I would write for 16 years. I did just that but along with it came more breakthroughs with my own personal development as well as healing between myself and my husband who is also a combat veteran.
Leaders are readers. What was a book that assisted you in life or is your "go to" for motivation/inspiration?: Struggle Well:Thriving in the Aftermath of Trauma by Ken Falke and Josh Goldberg

S2E55: Mission For The Veterans with LJ Raspler
In this episode, I sit down with LJ Raspler. She is an Entrepreneur and her mission is to help others live a pain free life while impacting the veterans suicide rate from 22 to 0. Here is some info on what we discussed:
"Because I suffered from a rare autoimmune disorder. I developed something called Guillain Barre syndrome in 2009, and it left me with a whole host of health issues, but primarily neurological severe and debilitating neurological damage, and I lived in pain, chronic pain. When I left teaching it was then that I was diagnosed with anxiety and PTSD, because I never went to a doctor I never went to anyone, because I was too afraid to find out how sick I was, and I know that's crazy and I don't advocate that for a lot of people, mostly everybody, but it's the journey I chose.
I healed myself to the best I could through my holistic journey. Acupuncture care and chiropractic care. Then with food, I developed a whole host of food allergies muscle weakness foggy brain I had so many different things. But I learned months ago that I had a mild case.
I really wanted to help veterans and I'm on a mission to serve you know my true heroes the veterans, not even knowing what it meant. Up until four months ago. And we partnered up. And I started doing challenges I did a fundraiser in March of, an event bright fundraiser, and I donated.
We raised virtually in a baking, pie, pie. We raised $800, and I i donated that to the United veterans beacon house here in Long Island, and they serve veterans and they house them.
They deal with programs in, you know, substance abuse, you know, the suicide the mental well being, you know, because that 22 to zero is where I'm looking at Trey that 22 you know the PTSD, we just came off of June and PTSD Awareness Month.
And I have to say this sleep that I'm wearing is a cognitive, sleep, which has the technology, different than the socks. And it's helped with my anxiety, and my PTSD and that fight and flight pinging off of every war for years and I didn't even realize it.
I'm so the journey began and Irene and I started raising money. We just did a fundraiser together for We The People Patriot Project. I'm all about Mark Peterson and Angie Eichmann, they have embraced us."
You can get more information about LJ's mission or reach out to her if you are experiencing pain. I personally have used the products she has been donating to veterans and several of my friends have also experienced great results.

S2E53: Past, Present, Future
S2E52: Financial Freedom with Raymond Carrasco
In today’s episode, I’m speaking with Raymond Carrasco, and he is actually a licensed financial professional, Founder of the War Council Financial and he's actually an active duty Marine. Here are some clips of the show!
Trey: What gave you that shove to join the military?
Raymond: Oh, I mean, I have to give respect to my grandfather. He is an amazing man. As a Veteran, he's one of the first builders to complete Disneyland and raised 15 children. Everything that he just did for our family, the foundation of our family, I was like, Yes, I want to make that person proud.
Trey: So, with you in the financial actually getting licensed and starting your own company while you being in the military. How hard was that?
Raymond: I'm not going to sugarcoat it, I'm not gonna lie, the military is a difficult place for growth. Sometimes it's just like we don't have time for that as we’re in a mission.
So, to get my license to study for my state boards and my course material and all these other things like that. It took a little bit more time than it should have, because I was going to the field, going back to back into the field, out of the field just that whole circus.
A week before I took my state board for my financial license, I was in the field. In this concrete, town house, like the whole thing was shaking.
I was just on my phone reading notes, I had a flashlight with a notebook. So, who wants it bad enough, I definitely wanted to do this for me and myself.
Trey: In regards to being a founder of the War Council Financial, how did that come to fruition and you becoming a founder for this company.
Raymond: Yeah, so, you can go work in a financial office. There can be a lunchtime and how much they can pay you and what they want you to tell people and all that other stuff, or you can go to the independent route, independent financial contractor consultant advisor, whatever you want to call it. What's cool about going the independent route is the route that I chose is that I'm able to work with hundreds of different companies, and I actually represent clients, rather than representing financial companies to the clients actually represent the priorities of the client to the financial company. And if that company doesn't fall in line with what I'm trying to how I'm trying to help a family or a person, then we move on, that company clearly does not have us at the center of their priority.
Later in this episode, Raymond speaks on how not having goals, hobbies, wants, or likes and it almost destroyed him. It was just emptiness. He then explains how refreshing it was to click on a podcast and listen to how authentic it is. Raymond pulls back the curtain and gets personal about being a father and going through divorce.

S2E51: Morning Struggles
S2E50: A Son's Interview - Father's Day Edition
Here is some clips of the show notes. You can catch the rest on our blog
00:07:10.000
Trey: What were you doing for a job, did it affect your job affect your finances. How did you prepare to be a father in that?
00:07:23.000
Dad: I was very fortunate at the time Trey. Because right before Karyl was being born. You know like maybe two years before that we were going through some very hard times, very very hard times I mean having to sell blood plasma just put gas in the car and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner and stuff. So I basically started my career with the government because I had my own construction company before that building homes, and then in 19, January, 5 1978, is when I started working for the government.
00:11:00.000
Trey: Why did you leave being an entrepreneur and owning your own business and go into a government position? It almost sounds like not necessarily you but the world in general. Was it hard times, because you talked about the Navy, or the shipyard was freezing hiring. And you also had left being an entrepreneurial business. So what happened there?
Dad: Okay. One the Naval Shipyard did not have a hiring freeze that was not a Naval Air rework facility. That was it an OB Norfolk. That's why they offered me a temporary position, and I was working at an OB Norfolk and the work building department.
So, the Naval Shipyard did not have a hiring freeze on it to time to go back to when I had Ryder construction company that you have to remember in the mid 70s was a building boom. You wouldn't remember but it was, it was a lot of houses being built all over.
I needed three crews up and running to keep the business afloat. To go where I needed it to go, I only had one crew. There wasn't anybody to hire for the other crews and then my one crew wasn't that experienced that I had. Basically, I had to be on the job site, all the time.
Then I broke an ankle up on a job, and I had a cast with my foot twisted all the way up to my crotch on crutches, and I wasn't supposed to be doing anything but house rest. The business was failing since I had to pull out from being there, so I went and paid everybody off and close the business out.
Later on, we jump into topics about his thought process of when I was thrown in jail, how he handled the process and put the house up for me to post bail.
Other topics we discuss was making a hard decision as a father to get a divorce, not because of falling out of love but for what was right for his children. We talked about alcoholism in the family that ultimately led to my moms death.
Easy Ryder then tells us three things he learned from his parents and how he applied them to his parenting skills. Before we wrapped up, dad gives a piece of advice to other parents that may be listening.

S2E49: Can You Change
S2E48: The Veteran Struggle to Entrepreneur with Adam Kroener
(3:00) Growing up, Adam screwed around a lot and didn’t really apply himself to much. Was doing drugs and decided to go into the military. At the time, they had a sign on bonus, and Adam thought to himself, “I could buy a lot of weed with that!” Shortly after signing up and passing a drug test, He found out that he would be a father.
(7:00) Working at a cheese factory, Adam moved his way up to a supervisory position. At a young age, his he was an unexperienced leader and it showed. To get people to do what he wanted, he would find himself yelling all the time. Adam realized that his leadership sucked and he wanted to get better. After picking up the Book “How to win friends and Influence people”, Adam realized that he had to change.
(12:00) Starting his military career in 2005, Adam continued the family tradition of the military. His father was an infantryman. Since this was only a few years into the war, Adam’s dad wouldn’t sign paperwork for a combat job. After going through a list of jobs, finally a job was accepted by Adam and his dad.
(15:00) Reflecting back on the military, Adam explains that he learned your body and mind can take more than you anticipate.
(18:00) Military talk. Trey talks about how the military helped him to be more effective with time management. We would have calendars to look forward 30/90/180 days out. Trey uses that in his life now to help stay focused on tasks.
(27:00) Realizing he needed to make a shift in his medicine habits, Adam reached out to a place and see about a process to get off the medication he was on. When Adam asked what they would do to help, the doctors told him that they would place him on another medicine typically prescribed to heroin addicts. Adam was all to familiar with that drug because he used to take it for fun and decided not to follow through with that help.
(29:00) Finally being off the medication, Adam was in another motorcycle accident and put back onto the medicine. His now wife, commented that she thinks he is just taking the pills to take them. Adams father had commented on the constant pill popping too. After doing the research, Adam understood exactly how these pills were affecting his decision making and drive to continue taking it.
(38:00) Adam used his operations background from the military towards his business now. He explains how Carbliss was started. At the time, there was seltzer drinks that were popular. After much research and talking with people in the bars, Adam, would ask people why they drink what they drink.
(43:00) There was a lot of hurdles that Adam had to overcome. “If someone said, here’s how much money you will lose, you’ll work 24 hours a day, and no financial benefit, how does that sound?”
This is the path most entrepreneurs take.
(45:00) SN food and beverage is the company Adam has created and it came from a friend he originally had the first thoughts of being an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur, Adam had to put everything on the line to make Carbliss a reality. Everything from the design of the can to the liquid inside was created by Adam and his wife.
Carbliss is now available in Wisconsin, Nebraska Colorado, Tennessee, Louisiana, New Jersey, and coming soon to Maryland, and California. Go to www.drinkcarbliss.com to find out more information and 38 other states that will soon be able to have Carbliss sent to you.

S2E47: Emotional Control
In this episode, Trey Ryder talks about emotional control and what that means. My son, came up to me and stated he wanted to talk with me because he thought he did something wrong. Of course it was right before bed time but I felt it was important that we spoke about what was on his mind. As he explained his story that he and his friends had been in an argument and it became a little physical, I knew it all came down to one thing, emotional control. I have fell victim to letting my emotions control my decisions. I used to let my life run by how I was feeling emotionally. When I realized thoughts create emotions and I control my thoughts, then I could choose how I emotionally respond! Check out the episode for more on this!

(24:00) Friend was reaching out but Marshal never picked up the phone. After procrastinating on talking with Dustin, Marshal found out that he committed suicide.
(26:00) Was tired of working as a bartender and knew there was more out there for him. Marshal doubled down as an entrepreneur and started making massive results. He thought that if he could have all this money, his life would change. Marshal was speaking on live stages but in 2019, he lost it all
(28:00) He was always going to be real with others and tell them how it was. Marshal thought that if he just served other people at a high level, everything would be fine. The problem was that he was never helping himself first.
(30:00) Addicted to drugs to numb the pain and feel present. After 2019, Marshal left it all to find himself.
(32:00) Facebook Live shout outs from the Forging Life Facebook Group
(33:00) Question from Nancy: How did you get to “I do not care what people think about my past”?
Marshall: Led with good positive energy, showed up and did his job every single day. If I showed up, continued to better my skills, had positive energy and surrounded myself with the right people then what they say wouldn’t matter. If I go live and tell people how it is and be authentic when telling others what I’m going through then what else can they say?
(40:00) Trey: What is your relationship with your father?
Marshal: All kids want from you is to understand and be present. My mom was always there for me and poured her heart out.
Growing up, I would dress the same as my dad, wearing the same stuff as him and all he would do is tell me how I mess up. All I wanted was for him to care. “Hurting people hurt people”. I thought I was going to hate him forever. A month after Dustin passed away, my dad called me and told me he was dying. This is what sparked me with the thought that if my dad could stop drinking, then I can make it as an entrepreneur. My father took the initiative to reach out and say he messed up. Then we had the greatest relationship
(49:00) Marshal: When you put faith into a higher source whatever that may be, there’s a reason for the season. I believe you are in these challenges because the person you are now couldn’t handle the blessings you are asking for. You’re constantly tested by the universe so that you can be ready to accept.

S2E44: Being Aligned with Who You Are (Part 2) with Marshal Gillen
Part 2
(00:00) Trey question to audience: If you were to be diagnosed with something and know that you would be passing away, what would you be doing right now? How would you show up in life?
(5:00) Trey: What is the future of Marshal Live
Marshal: People always knows me as Marshal Live and I’ll always have that. I just got tired of just making courses and entrepreneurship. I made it to the top and I just didn’t feel like I fit in with them. I struggled with my brand as Top Paid Speaker. (He was referencing struggling internally because it didn’t align with who he was.)
(10:00) Marshal created an event and had some really great speakers but 30 days before the event, he realized he wouldn’t be able to bring the audience the speakers would want. All except one backed out.
Marshal: I still hosted the retreat and the people still came out. I offered their money back and told them, if you want your money back, I’ll be happy to give it back. But, if you trust me, I’ll transform your life. At the very end, they were all thanking me for it.
(15:00) Marshal: At this time, I’m going to continue holding these retreats. I’m able to just connect with people. I don’t need all the fancy things.
(20:00) Marshal: People can tell you everything they don’t want but can’t say what they do want. My first event had 137 people there. I was so mad there was only 137 because I had 200 tickets out. No matter what you do, until you know you’re enough, it doesn’t matter what you do.
(22:00) That belief system will always be there to knock you down until you know how to change it. There would be a lot more successful people if they knew how to do that

S2E33: Self talk - A Fathers Message
Last week, I had something break on my car. What sounded like a simple fix, turned out to be a long process. I'm thankful to have had help from my son as we worked together to fix the problem. This "30 Minute" fix turned into hours. Eventually my son wanted to give up and take the car in to be fixed. What he didn't realize is the self talk leads to us not trying our hardest. Can you identify a time in your life that you said you couldn't do something, AND YOU WERE RIGHT? Most often, what you tell yourself will show up in the actions you do.
I want you to get a spot on my calendar so we can go over your goals. Goals are often overlooked and not done. You can't effectively have consistent outcomes without setting goals. This is time for you to develop a goal for you to achieve and by the end of the call, you will have an action plan to start implementing! https://calendly.com/treyryder/discovery

S2E26: So much Jenergy with Jenny Mckinney
Today, we get to have an awesome time with Jenny Mckinney. Jenny is a transformational coach that brings laughter into your day. Her laugh is so contagious, it's hard to keep yourself from laughing with her. Jenny has broken the "life is stuffy" mold. She came out of the womb laughing and have shared that every since. by paving her own way while breaking our generational "hand me downs" of "work hard to make money" and "beat it out of them" mentality along with "rich people are a-holes". Jenny stopped participating in that mindset and disowned it. Broke right up with it because it didn't fit in her "lets live our best and lightest life!"

S2E25: What's Your Story
We all have our story. Is it an empowering one or is it a story that is holding you back? When we are told information, you choose to update your story. Our story is what creates our reality. Maybe we stop playing with our children like I did, or you stop doing the things you love. Find out what story you are telling yourself and ask if this is what you want. If thoughts lead to emotions, emotions to feelings, and feelings into action/inaction, that means you have a choice in how you want to be.

Sean is a life coach helping his clients work through limiting beliefs and establish powerful personal routines and empowering habits to transform their lives. He is also an author of Prison of Your Own, where he speaks about his struggles, being put in prison, and overcoming limiting beliefs.
"Small wins everyday to build confidence and belief in myself - my transformation took place in a prison cell"
When we talked with him, I asked, "What breakthroughs have you had in your life. Sean explained, "Finding peace within a jail cell changed my perspective and approach towards life forever."
It's hard enough being in prison. It's even harder when you're not supposed to be there. Sean was able to make the best of a situation and still impact others while in prison. This mindset ultimately led him to his passion and entrepreneurship.
Free course - habit hacking & mindset mastery. You can find him and sign up here at http://seanmichaelcrane.com/

S2E23: Mistakes and What You Can Learn
I'm sure that we can all agree that we've made mistakes. In my case, I have made A LOT of them. In this episode, you'll hear me talk about some of the mistakes I have made and how I personally overcame them. Just like in this episode where I said Einstein but meant to say Thomas Edison found the different ways of not making a lightbulb!

Limor is a Mindset Transformational Mentor, NLP ,life & spiritual coach, Podcast host of the MindSetGo podcast. During this episode, Limor talks to us about going through two divorces. Limor questioned why she continued to attract the wrong people into her life. It was easy to blame the others and not point the fingers at yourself.
The big breakthrough that Limor talks to us about is:
1) Having A Coach
2) Work on Self
3) Look In The Eyes of Others
4) Take Responsibility
An important topic we continued to discuss was about why problems continue to show up and why you might be a people pleaser. S2E19: Struggles In A Relationship
I asked the question in our Facebook group, "What do you struggle with in a relationship that holds you back?" and you all gave some great answers. This topic is not one that I was going to do for a solocast this week but your answers really touched my heart. Want to join the discussions? go to our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/forginglifepodcast
Some answers:
- Trust
- Disconnect/Connection
- Commitment Issues
- Self Worth/Self Image
The thing about these is that it all came from past experiences. It could be from when you were a child growing up and seeing how your parents interacted or the lack of it in their relationship. Maybe in your own relationship, these kept happening to you and now you have a belief that you always attract that type of person. If you want something different, you HAVE TO start focusing on what you do want. If this is something you want more information on, you can send me an email TreyRyder@ForgingLife.org and we can jump on a coaching call. Don't let the beliefs of your past hold you back from the possibilities of the future!
