For The Love Of

For The Love Of

By Noel Craig Woodward

‘For the Love Of’ was conceived as a compendium of thoughts and ideas which could be explored through conversations on far ranging topics. These include, but are not limited to, film, television, books, podcasts, history, culture, photography, design, and just about everything else in the middle.

With an avid interest in the documentation and dissemination of knowledge as well as a being a podcast junkie, I have always wanted to start one of these - mostly about things I find fascinating, thought provoking and intellectually stimulating.

Here’s my take. New Episodes every Saturday!

Episode #12 Design | Talking Practice with Sachin Ambekar (Part II)

Hi. Welcome to Episode 12. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is For The Love Of.

Before I get into the episode. I’d just like to announce that This is the season finale and I’ll be taking a break to work on the Season 3 and another audio project that is in the pipeline. Super excited about it and more on this as I continue developing it.

In the meantime, I will be working on bonus episodes every month. To stay in the know do remember to click that bell icon or follow us on your favourite podcast app.

Also, the podcast turned a year old last week. It’s been an incredible journey so far and Season 2 has surprised me in more ways than one. So a big thank you to all my listeners for tuning in and supporting the show. It really means a lot. If you’ve got thoughts/ideas/comments you could send in an email to connect@fortheloveofpodcast.in or you could do me a solid by leaving a Review on Apple Podcasts and tell me what you think of the show!

For The Love of Design | Talking Practice with Sachin Ambekar (Part II)

This time around I’ll be talking to a former colleague and a dear friend of mine who has co-founded his own architecture practice, in Gujarat. We’ll be discussing his time at architecture school, his post-graduation at CEPT University, a Scholarship to Switzerland, Design Education in the country and the rigours of architecture as a discipline.

A gold medallist at Gujarat University and a CEPT scholar, Sachin is passionately devoted to architecture and design theories. The inter-disciplinary collaboration between design, craft & technology enthrals him. By exploring how the different agents interact, he hopes to discover a new perspective to better problem-solving.

After working at Studio PKA, Mumbai, Sachin decided to branch out and start his own practice – SS Design Studio - with his partner Sanjana Samel, with a keen focus on adapting a multi-disciplinary approach to architecture and design.

In Part 2 of the episode, we explore Sachin’s practice – SS Design Studio – what kind of architecture he relates with and the future of design.

Episode #09 The Refrain | Reviving Folk Music with Abhinav Agrawal (Part II)

Hi Welcome to Episode 09. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is For The Love Of.

For the Love of The Refrain | Reviving Folk Music with Abhinav Agarwal (Part II)

Abhinav Agrawal, 27, an ethnomusicologist, musician and social entrepreneur is also the Founder Director of the Non-Profit Organisation, Anahad Foundation. Abhinav worked towards creating and reviving the diminishing folk music industry in India by creating self-reliant models that generate livelihoods, pride and dignity for stakeholders connected to this art form.

He is generating a demand and value for cultural folk music through building respect, recognition, identity and self-confidence of folk musicians, and in parallel creating a self-sustainable economic environment where an artist can distribute their productions directly to the public without an intermediary. In doing so, Abhinav is helping create a Folk Music industry that is a sustainable art form and an industry that is musician led.

This was one of my favourite episodes of Season 2 and was extremely fortunate to get to speak with Abhinav and hear his story and all the work that has gone into giving folk artists a voice through the Anahad Foundation.

This is Part 2 of the episode, we continue our conversation and discuss the Anahad Foundation, the Fellowship program, Equals Sessions and projects in the pipeline.

Episode #07 The Page | Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam with Shreya Desai

Hi. Welcome to the 7th Episode. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is For The Love Of.

For The Love Of The Page | Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam with Shreya Desai

Shreya is an architect who loves consuming good food and literature. She’s always been a book nerd but in the past couple of years couldn’t make or find the the kind of time for it.

This last year she’s been been reading a bit too much and sleeping too little.

Apart from that, Shreya has taken her passion one step further by starting a book related Instagram blog, called @Papergrammer which helped keep her reading in check as well as be a part of a reading community that she wasn’t aware of. It has also exposed her to a diverse range of material that has been both fun as well as inspiring.

As the title suggests, with this episode we dive right into Rumaan Alam’s book that’s been hailed favourably by critics and book lovers alike. The Page is a recurring segment, which I hope to build upon in the coming months.

Episode #06 Filmmaking | Lights, Camera, Action with Swayam Khanna (Part II)

Hi Welcome to the Sixth Episode. I’m your host Noel Woodward and this is For The Love Of.

For The Love of Filmmaking | Lights, Camera, Action with Swayam Khanna (Part II)

Swayam is an aspiring filmmaker with a vision of bending the notions of mainstream/commercial works to bring out the actual power of cinema by subconsciously settling in ideas to the audience and use the power of the medium to entertain as well as educate, especially Indian society at large.

Swayam is not a stranger to the show. He’s been part of 3 episodes now where we’ve discussed two tv shows – Normal People and I Know This Much is True as well as a documentary on Netflix called the Social Dilemma.

In this episode we talk about Swayam and his passion for films, how he got into working on them as well as his recent projects – Mom, a crime thriller starring Sri Devi which is now on Netflix, Aarya –an Indian crime series on Disney Plus Hotstar that stars Sushmita Sen and Mirzapur – which needs no introduction.

We continue from where we left off. Part II airs this Saturday.

For The Love of Urbanism | Dynamic Domains of Antarctica with Swadheet Chaturvedi (Part I)

In this episode, an Architectural Association graduate shares his journey as we discuss his thesis project Dynamic Domains of Antarctica.

As an architect and urbanist, Swadheet wants to understand what it takes to convince stakeholders towards the long-term benefits of a climate sensitive policy system in sync with planetary health and more robust economic growth.

He firmly believes that architects and urbanists have an important role to play in this transition and is keenly involved in the process through an extremely intriguing micro forestry venture.

Episode #10 True Crime | Charles Sobhraj: Through the Eyes of The Serpent

Episode #10 True Crime | Charles Sobhraj: Through the Eyes of The Serpent

For The Love Of True Crime | Charles Sobhraj: Through the Eyes of The Serpent

The first podcast I ever tuned in to was Serial, which to be honest, is easily one of the best podcasts out there. Now into its third season, Serial set a benchmark has spurred a podcast revolution especially when it comes to True Crime as a genre.

My fascination with this however stems from some fantastic films and tv in Zodiac, Seven, Hannibal, Bates Motel, True Detective and a more recent shift to True Crime with Making a Murderer, The Jinx, Mindhunter, The Keepers, When They See Us, American Crime Story.

To kickstart the segment we’ll be exploring the life of Charles Sobhraj - Crime and Investigation have put it together rather succinctly.

"Variously described as ‘Asia’s premier serial killer’, ‘The Serpent’ and ‘The Bikini Killer’, Charles Sobhraj was an infamous con artist, drug dealer, jewel thief and cold-blooded murderer. Through the 1960s and 1970s, he wove his guileful and lethal web of deceit and crime, evading authorities from numerous countries.

Skilled at befriending people, his victims were usually vulnerable Western tourists in Southeast Asia. In and out of prison, he led a life of risk, manipulation and conspiracy that eventually made him a media celebrity. Never convicted for all his crimes, Sobhraj is estimated by some to have committed over 20 murders, whilst others put this number at 32.

Rearrested in 2004, he is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence in Kathmandu, Nepal, for a double murder in 1975."

Also, The Big Little Screen where we talk about films and television will continue to be released as a monthly segment so there will be content to chew upon!
