By Orthodox Christian Teaching

Welcome to the weekly broadcast of the conference homilies of Fr Michael Harper. Fr Michael was a leading figure in the Christian charismatic movement between the 1960’s and 1980’s. His ministry took him around the world through his organisation The Fountain Trust, while his personal convictions took him on a journey from being an Anglican vicar to a pioneering Orthodox Christian Archpriest within Antiochian Orthodox Church in Great Britain and Ireland. The homilies in this archive, of great theological value, were spoken in the years leading to Fr Michael’s ‘Pilgrimage to Orthodoxy’.

Fr Michael left Anglicanism in 1995 because of what he saw as the Church of England's increasing doctrinal laxity. He and his wife, Jeanne, joined the Orthodox Church, was ordained presbyter and made the first dean of the then newly established Antiochian Orthodox Deanery of Great Britain and Ireland. He related his journey to the Orthodox Church in ‘The True Light’ (1994), published as ‘A Faith Fulfilled’ In the USA. He was subsequently made an archpriest by Metropolitan Gabriel of Western and Central Europe in 2005. He was also the founder and presbyter of the Orthodox Church of St Botolph in London. The full biography of Fr Michael’s life and ministry, ‘Visited by God’, was published by his wife Jeanne in late 2013. The conference messages in this podcast were spoken by Fr Michael in the years prior to his reception into the Orthodox Church. They bear witness to Fr Michael’s theological insight and commitment to faithfulfullness in doctrine, ministry and discipleship in the years leading to his whole-hearted embrace of the faith and life of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. They also provide a valuable record for those who knew and served with Fr Michael throughout his Christian ministry and for those who are seeking, searching and discerning as they travel the same path as Fr Michael and Jeanne Harper - The Pilgrimage to Orthodoxy.
