Boy's Night Out
Frankie and Lloyd discuss life, struggles, goals and everything in between. Life can often get in the way but you've got to stick with it, good things come to those who persist. Let's hear it for the boys!
Transitions
Jozlyn had not been feeling well for the last couple of weeks and during this time got her biggest audition opportunity to date. The show must go on so she just had to push through. Angela joins us as she is still settling in after her big move and into her new life after radio. This gets us talking about big transitions in life that change your way of life. Like going from a job where you get a paycheck every other week to a job where you are solely responsible to search for opportunities to make money. Such as being a Voice Artist or Actor and auditioning for projects in order to make ends meet. Angela is still trying to figure out her booth space to fully go into audition mode. Angela admits that she does much better when she has a concrete schedule, which is something she is actively working on. Don't get stuck in the booth! Make sure you take breaks because self care is important to keep you energized and motivated.
I'll have what she's having!
Jozlyn shares the booth struggles while dealing with her kids and pups. Lloyd is feeling better and ready to start taking classes again. There is no diving into Audibooks, it requires a great deal of training. We do dive right in to our conversation though, we talk about accepting jobs where you question your morals or the pay that they are offering as compared to the amount of work required. What is fair when you are starting out? What if it is in Perpetuity? We then discuss whether or not we would accept jobs with messages and/or beliefs that we don't agree with. As Jozlyn mentioned, maybe if you are not able to connect with the copy that does not align with your morals perhaps it will not sound as good or authentic. Do you have a price? We get derailed, as we often do, and start talking about the Backstreet Boys, Milli Vanilli, Karaoke song selections, and how Lloyd has never been to a concert. The takeaway? Your booth your rules, do what you need to do to move forward and create the career you envision, make choices you are comfortable with, and trust your gut. Also, you can't moan good when your throat is tightening up!

Being the Center of Attention is NOT for Everyone
We kick off this episode with Jozlyn's Mexican food order, move to Frankie's search for a microphone stand and then go right back to Jozlyn's food delivery. Jozlyn is working on her website and talks about what that process has been like and the costs involved. This leads to a bigger conversation about all the upfront costs that come along with starting your business and spending money that you won't necessarily see a return in right away. But when you have a vision as to what you want your business to look like, some people would much rather spend the money up front and others will just get the work going and build the business in stages. Angela is also working on her website but she is taking a different approach. Her 12yo son is helping her to just get all the basic information on the website and later on, as she gets more money coming in, she will hire a professional to create it. "You gotta start where you are and then build on it". Our resident Graphic Designer, Gaby, built her own website in one night and talks about her process and wanting to take professional photos. We find out that Jozlyn does not like to be the center of attention, which she found out during the photo session for her business and feels as if she should've had her hair and make up done. We talk about the importance of truly capturing your essence when it comes to your brand and business and making sure that it all reflects who you truly are.
To WAV or not to WAV? That is the question. We discuss file formats when it comes to submitting work to clients and how Angela helped Gaby during an urgent high res situation. We celebrate Gaby's getting her first gig! And she talks about how Lloyd inspired her by submitting himself for a gig that was out of his comfort zone but her just went for it and let it ALL go. We also discuss the different avenues people can explore to try to get work. As we talk about why we prefer to be behind the mic, Angela talks about how when she was hosting a live event she totally bombed as she fumbled some words and lost her spot, "All the words turned into triangles and squares, I felt like I was having a stroke!"
This episode is jam packed! Don't miss it!

Recycling is Not a Thing
Jozlyn shares her experiences with her new microphone and testing new VO booth spaces around her house. Lloyd gives updates on his health and on his job (which he hates). We learn why Lloyd gets pissed off about once a week regarding the gatekeeping of resources in the country. Gas prices, food prices and the cost of living overall and why America does not recycle. This is a very interesting and eye opening conversation about the state of recycling and some of the ways to manage waste and be kinder to the environment. A discussion about paper towels lead to finding a new voice inflection for Lloyd. Overall we learn a lot of new facts about Jozlyn and Lloyd, like Joz's frozen bags of food garbage, Lloyd might be a germaphobe, nothing really dries in Florida, and Lloyd will not be mixing chemicals ever again. Do you use paper towels? Do you use a sponge? Do you use your dishwasher or just use it as storage? Deodorant making? So many questions! and this episode is full of answers and some "funny" facts, some not so funny but very informative nonetheless. You don't want to miss this! There's always a can of worms to be opened!

They share road trip preferences, scary driving stories, getting lost, and happy accidents. What makes a good driver and a bad driver and how driving differs from state to state. Setting boundaries as a geriatric millennial and what even is a millennial? Are we even recording?! And finally, how do you put yourself out there on social media while keeping your VO career in mind. "I like tacos not cats" - Joz LMAO!
Don't Be Your Own Roadblock
Coming from Jozlyn's tiny closet studio! We are celebrating Jozlyn being demo ready, it is all about celebrating victories along the journey. We also discuss how to prepare for unexpected, and/or expected, expenses throughout your career, specifically as you are starting out as you want to put your best foot forward and incrementally upgrade your equipment. We touch on what led us to VO and what our "big picture" goals are and it gets surprisingly deep as we discuss self-acceptance and issues that do not allow us to move forward and how we often act as our own roadblock.
