Fashion Creative Finds Freedom in Connecting with her Ancestry
Erika Macarthy was born a fashion nerd, but majority of her professional career she chose money over passion. She enjoyed her share of success in sales and business development and always knew there was something more for her legacy. Little did she know, her relationship with her closet would bring her more joy than professional accolades. To add to her journey, she began a family of her own and transitioned to the role of stay at home mom. After soul-searching and a number of part-time jobs, Erika knew that she had a gift. In the middle of a global pandemic, H’Maj was born!
H’Maj is a play on “homage” as we tap into the magnificence of our ancestors who’ve paved the way for us. As CEO of H’MAJ, Erika oversees design, fabric sourcing, develops marketing strategies, and serves as the creative director for the brand. Saying this is her dream job is an understatement, it’s so much more than that to her. It’s her chance to pay homage to her predecessors and to the H’Maj tribe!
