Friday Night Dinner with Morgan & Rachelle: A Gilmore Girls Podcast
By Rachelle & Morgan
Friday Night Dinner with Morgan & Rachelle: A Gilmore Girls PodcastApr 02, 2021
Are protruding ankles just...cankles?: Gilmore Girls S2 E17 (Dead Uncles and Vegetables)
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to discuss the death of Morgan's hopes and dreams of moving to France after the French hear–and are deeply offended by–her horrible French accent in this episode. Oh, and the death of Luke's crotchety uncle, Louis. But I digress. Sookie unwittingly hires Emily as her wedding planner and soon finds herself buried in fungi-filled festivities; Taylor Doose's produce sales are threatened by a pop-up farmer's market and its long-haired host slinging sexy squash; Lorelai's got the lingo of a true diner diva down as she (wo)mans the counter for a frazzled, funeral-fueled Luke; and Luke learns first-hand just how difficult men can be in both life and death (kidding, mostly). Grab your hot blonde with sand (or 7 sweet n' lows) and get ready for your heart to go on in Stars Hollow.

This Episode Brought to You by the Seedy Underbelly: Gilmore Girls S2 E16 (There's the Rub)
The girls are back in town—Stars Hollow, to be exact! We're sorry it took us so long, life has been, well, that's neither here nor there. What matters is we're BACK, and we're bringing you an episode full of everything you loved and missed (or maybe not?) about this podcast: plenty of talking over and interrupting one another, multiple cameos from Nugs, Morgan eating something into the microphone, Rachelle defending Dean (though considerably less vehemently than prior episodes), and long-winded tangents about everything from our go-to Indian takeout orders to why couples massages are quite possibly the worst thing you can do with another person. So grab your martinis (with extra olives), settle in, and we'll see you in Stars Hollow!

The One Where Rachelle Defends Dean Don't Come For Her: Gilmore Girls S1 E16 (Star-Crossed Lovers and Other Strangers)
Well, folks, we've made it. We have arrived. Here we are. The dreaded episode. The episode that will forever go down in infamy as the episode where Dean's character takes a dramatic nosedive. The episode that turned the hearts of millions of Gilmore Girls fans -- nay, the world -- against the once-beloved bag boy. Chris is gone, Max hasn't called, and Lorelai is in a funk. The entirety of Stars Hollow is in a romantic tizzy, preparing for the Founders Day Firelight Festival, and everyone except for Lorelai and Luke are feeling the love. (Well, and Rory.) Luke is blindsided by his ex-girlfriend Rachel's sudden return to Stars Hollow, and Dean plans the most epic three-month-a-versary date for himself and Rory, only to find that it may be their last shared plate of spaghetti and meatballs. And Rachelle is here to say that maybe we should reserve just a smidge of sympathy for the universally despised Dean, but don't @ her. (Just kidding, we love hearing from y'all. Just keep it kind and civil.)

Town Meeting: They See Him Roll In, It's Hayden
You hear that? (How could you not -- his 2000 Indian Chief brings even Taylor Doose to the streets complaining about the noise pollution.) Christopher is comin' to town. And since he drove all the way from Berkeley, California, we decided it was only right to hold this meeting in season 1. Please join us for our third unofficial Stars Hollow town meeting as we discuss Rory's biological father, Christopher Hayden, and if he and Lor (*shudder*) are a match made in heaven, or if they should leave their love in H(e)artford, with special guest (and fourth unofficial host of the pod), Morgan's husband Rudy. The Juiciest Episode Full of Primordial Ooze: Gilmore Girls S1 E15 (Christopher Returns)
Spoiler alert: We're more than halfway through season 1 and still don't know what we're doing but you're still here, so we're back back back again with a juicy episode. Guess who else is back back back again? (Hint, it's in the title.) That's right, Christopher is in town, and Friday Night Dinner is about to explode, as is Richard on Straub. (I mean, with a name like Straub, who could blame Richard?) Rory meets her Hayden grandparents, Lor and Chris make some bad decisions out on the balcony thanks to a little too much Jose Cuervo, Luke gets stood up with the paint cans at the diner, and Lorelai turns down Chris' surprise proposal -- but doesn't shut her heart to a future with him completely?

Lorelai is a Cosmic Oxen: What's Your Sign?
Hold onto your horoscopes, because this episode is on another level -- literally, as in, an astrological one. You could even say it's out of this world. (Yep, we went there.) At the request of a listener, Rachelle, a casual dabbler in all things astrology and a self-proclaimed "Aries to a T", breaks down Lorelai and Rory's astrological signs and life path numbers for Morgan, the skeptic, who will determine how accurate they actually are.

Sorting Stars Hollow: Sorting of the Scene Stealers
Welcome to another Harry Potter-themed mini-sode! In this episode, Morgan and Rachelle combine their decade (plus)-long obsession with Harry Potter with their love of Gilmore Girls to sort the residents of Stars Hollow into their respective Hogwarts houses. In this sorting episode, we're tackling a few ore secondary characters of the show who tend to steal whatever scene they land in: Babette, Maury, Taylor Doose, and Miss Patty. We also discuss what animal each would bring with them to Hogwarts, their best or favorite Hogwarts class, favorite or most used spell, and what their occupation would be in the wizarding world. Let the magic begin, muggles!

It's "Concert" Not "Cun-cert": Gilmore Girls S1 E13 (Concert Interruptus)
Run (don't walk) like an Egyptian to listen to this new episode! True to form, Lorelai offers to host the town rummage sale to raise money for refurbishing a bridge but can't bear to part with any of her sparkly head bandanas or rhinestone-encrusted army print jackets. Rory and the Chilton Heathers (Paris, Louise, and Madeline) are assigned to a debate team, and the ladies take a right at the rooster statue (Hi, Monte!) to work on their group project in Rory's cluttered living room with Pop Tart appetizers and pizza as sustenance. Sookie is the best friend ever and gets Lorelai her dream tickets to see The Bangles, before Lorelai (thoughtfully?) offers them to the girls. The five of them head to NYC where Lorelai and Sookie scream with laughter from the nosebleeds and L & M take off with some randos, only to be caught and chastised by Lorelai in full-mom mode. Also, Luke loses his cool over an article of clothing, and we hear some tall tales about one of Stars Hollow's most infamous former residents, Rachel.

Rory Climbs a Tree???: Gilmore Girls S1 E12 (Double Date)
We're re-titling this episode, "The One Where Lorelai Finally Acts Like the Best Friend Sookie Deserves." After a nervous spatula hair flip and leaving Jackson the cutest voicemail of all time thanks to Lorelai's prompting, Sookie makes her move and sets herself and Lorelai up on a disaster of a double date with Jackson and his itsy-bitsy bowling obsessed cousin, Rune. (What kind of name is "Rune" anyway? And who asks a woman her shoe size at a fancy French restaurant?!) Lane asks Rory to ask Dean to ask Zack on a double date, only to find that Zack is not "the one" before being grounded and nearly shipped off to a convent in Siberia. Luke *almost* asks Lorelai out on a date (so close people!), but is interrupted by by a very upset Mrs. Kim, and Lorelai dishes out some actually great parenting advice at the end of this whirlwind episode.

"E" is for "Echolocation": Gilmore Girls S1 E11 (Paris is Burning)
We're back with another hot fire flames episode -- literally. Paris is burning while her mom is getting plastic surgery in parts unknown, and her parent's marriage goes up in flames and the papers. Lorelai and Max are snogging at school during parents day after he makes her his ex-girlfriend's Osso Bucco recipe, and naturally the whole school is abuzz with a hot new vat of steamy steamy gossip. Plus, Sookie is taking life by the squash blossoms and asking out her produce guy. This is an action-packed episode you won't want to miss.

Sorting Stars Hollow: Sorting of the Schoolmates
Welcome to our second Harry Potter-themed mini-sode! In this episode, Morgan and Rachelle combine their decade (plus)-long obsession with Harry Potter with their love of Gilmore Girls to sort the residents of Stars Hollow into their respective Hogwarts houses. In this sorting episode, we're tackling the schoolmates of season 1: Lane, Paris, and Tristan. We also discuss what animal each would bring with them to Hogwarts, their best or favorite Hogwarts class, favorite or most used spell, and what their occupation would be in the wizarding world. Let the magic begin, muggles!

Halloween Will Never Be Cancelled in Our Hearts: Gilmore Girls S1 E10 (Forgiveness and Stuff)
"Forgiveness, is more than saying sorry." - From the 2005 film, Just Friends, starring Anna Farris and Ryan Reynolds. It's the holiday season, which means it's time for the annual Stars Hollow Holiday pageant, and Emily's famous apple tarts. But thanks to the blowup fight between Emily and Lorelai last episode, Lorelai has been uninvited to Christmas dinner and instead spends her Friday evening at Luke's eating a holiday-themed burger in the shape of Santa Claus. However, an urgent voicemail from Rory have Luke and Lorelai rushing to the hospital where Richard is being treated for a minor heart-related scare and Emily is rolling her eyes at Luke and Lorelai's obvious attraction for one another between bouts of yelling at defenseless nurses (shout-out to Coach Sue!). Plus, we discuss the Hawaii missile crisis of 2018, and Rachelle introduces a new segment of the podcast: Pop Culture Corner!

I'd Rather be a Snack Than a Dish: Gilmore Girls S1 E9 (Rory's Dance)
"Ro Ro needs a schnack." - Morgan. What else is new? This episode, of course! And boy oh boy have we got dish for you. Rory and Dean are headed to the Chilton formal, while Lorelai is stuck on the couch with a back spasm after duking it out with a dress before being nursed back to health with Emily's smashed banana toast. Turns out, Lorelai isn't the only one going fist-to-cuffs in this episode: Dean and Tristan have a small altercation on the dance floor. And when Rory doesn't come home after the dance, chaos ensues in a screamin' kitchen showdown. Grab your snacks, because this episode is about to get juicy.

Sorting Stars Hollow: Sorting of the Suitors
Welcome to our first Harry Potter-themed mini-sode! In this episode, Morgan and Rachelle combine their decade (plus)-long obsession with Harry Potter with their love of Gilmore Girls to sort the residents of Stars Hollow into their respective Hogwarts houses. For this first (of many) sorting episode, we're tackling the suitors of season 1: Dean, Luke, and Max. We also discuss what animal each would bring with them to Hogwarts, their best or favorite Hogwarts class, favorite or most used spell, and what their occupation would be in the wizarding world. Let the magic begin, muggles!

Frozen Pizza is a Staple of Life: Gilmore Girls S1 E8 (Love & War & Snow)
We smell snow! It's the first snowfall of the season and that means everything's magical in Stars Hollow. Lorelai and Max have their first date over fiesta burgers and a scary movie, Rory gets snowed in at her grandparent's house and introduces them to national treasure that is frozen pizza, Lane makes her move with Rick Bloomenfeld's thick mane of hair, and Luke's heart is left broken and freezing in the snow alongside the Battle of Stars Hollow reenactors. So grab a slice of pizza or cozy up by the fire with some cocoa and join us for this episode of Friday Night Dinner.

Nothing Beats a Freshly Cracked Walnut: Gilmore Girls S1 E7 (Kiss and Tell)
If you like Pina Coladas, then you'll love this episode, because we've had two or three of them. Rachelle and Morgan sit down, drinks in hand, to talk about Rory's first kiss, and their own first kiss stories. (Spoiler alert: They both involve vehicles, funnily enough and unbeknownst to each other.) We also discuss the shortcomings of deep dish pizza (no one orders pizza for the sauce, except apparently Sookie and Chicagoans), why soda should never be called "pop" (again, looking at you, Chicago), the insane amount of junk food in this episode (Swedish fish dipped in Nutella anyone?), and Lorelai playing matchmaker mom. Share your first kiss stories with us!

Town Meeting: Bag Boy, Bag Boy, Whatcha Gonna Do?
Settle in, folks: This mini-sode town meeting is being called to order! Join us for our second unofficial Stars Hollow town meeting as we discuss the heart-throbbingly handsome Chi-town transplant Dean Forester with special guest (and fourth unofficial host of the pod), Morgan's husband Rudy. Rory's got her first beau, and we're eager to see if this relationship is one for the ages, or doomed to Dean-solve. (See what we did there?) Cast your vote in our DMs on Instagram @fridaynightdinnerpod, or drop us a line: fridaynightdinnerpodcast@gmail.com.

Post-Its, Puddings, & Pluots: Gilmore Girls S1 E6 (Rory's Birthday Parties)
Like this episode? Put a Post-It on it! It's Rory's birthday and we're celebrating with a brand new episode of Friday Night Dinner. Emily's serving up pudding in crystal bowls and shopping for Mont Blanc pens and pink guitar-shaped purses with Lorelai, Richard is taking Cosmo quizzes to find out if he's an Autumn or Summer, Luke is baking coffee cake and blowing up balloons, and Rory's sneaking around with hunky Dean, who is the most thoughtful gift giver that ever lived. (*Swoon*) So join us for the party, and don't forget to bring the ice, because it's rude to show up empty handed, and parties *always* run out of ice. (Just don't leave your wallet in a grocery cart.)

Town Meeting: To Max, or Not to Max?
In our first official minisode (and unofficial Stars Hollow town meeting), Rachelle and Morgan are joined by a special guest to discuss in true Gilmore Girls fashion the pros and cons of one Max Medina, English teacher at Chilton and potential suitor of Lorelai Gilmore. Is Max the right man for Lorelai? Is their relationship in the best interest of both parties, or doomed to fail? Cast your vote and let your voice be heard: fridaynightdinnerpodcast@gmail.com, or on Instagram (@fridaynightdinnerpod).
