Tomas Fox - The man with the Tashkeel tattoo

Tomas Fox - The man with the Tashkeel tattoo

This is my favorite episodes to date. Today I had the good fortune to speak with one of my dearest friends, my little brother Tomas Campos Fox. Iā€™ve known Tomas since he was a 14 year old grom attempting handplants on the ramps of Tashkeel. He is now 24 years old and grown into an eloquent, thoughtful, and dedicated artist and skateboarder. We discuss Tomasā€™ current state of affairs, where he wants to go in his artistic endeavors, and the impact Tashkeel had on him as a young adult. For those of you who donā€™t know Tashkeel www.Tashkeel.org is an arts hub located in Nad al Sheba Dubai. It was started by Lateefa bint Maktoum Al Maktoum as an incubator for promising artists in the Middle East to enhance their skills through creative collaborations and access to a wide variety of tools and resources. Tomas and I wax poetic on this place that is steeped in skateboard lore, discuss the impact it had on both of us, and how we can use those experiences to carry the torch forward for future generations of youth to express themselves as creatively and beautifully as possible. It truly was a golden era in the developmental years of many a young boys and girls in Dubai. Please excuse the weird audio syncing as Anchor.fm is messing up and I canā€™t fix it. Sooooorrrryyyyy

Wrong I tell you... and I have everybodyā€™s favorite pied piper of inspiration Scott Vollmer from the Great Lakes Science Center to discuss specifically how he packaged all that together into a wildly successful curriculum for the Cleveland City schools. Now sit back, relax, and take about 10 deep breaths. Ok, feeling good? Now... when youā€™re ready, on your own time... press play on yet another effervescent episode of Rad Vibes.

Episode 2.3: Skateboarding in Iran and other international locales (podcast format ideas)

Episode 2.3: Skateboarding in Iran and other international locales (podcast format ideas)

Kenny and I are just getting our feet wet with podcasting and decided to jump right in and take the plunge by recording an episode together. This is the unadulterated/unfiltered/uncut discussion we had. In this episode we made some pretty good progress by outlining an idea to showcase the people who spearheaded cool skate scenes around the world. Kenny has probably met and understood more of the personalities of skateboarding internationally than anyone else. We focused most of our talk around Skateboarding in Iran and then used that as a launchpad. We thought about telling the story of one countries skate scene a week and breaking it down into daily segments. Monday, as an example, would focus on the dude that started the scene. Tuesday might be about the person who was instrumental in the art around the scene... Wednesday, music... Thursday... etc etc. The main idea behind using this format is to stoke out people listening so that they start their own little skate scene. You never know... if a seed gets planted in one personā€™s mind you never know what could come of it. We want to stoke people by detailing those stories. If those stories spark another person to imagine how rad it would be to start their own scene then the goal has been achieved. This is a free form discussion simply brainstorming ideas. We plan to continue doing this as much as humanly possible to further focus the ideas into something super rad that gets people stoked.

We take a meandering look at the bubble of Bali and all that has to offer... thereā€™s no real intention for this episode except that I want to practice podcasting and using this Anchor App to publish better and better shit each time.
