In this episode, I wax somewhat philosophic on lighthouses, in particular, on Castle Hill Light, which is seen if you visit the Inn at Castle Hill, Newport, Rhode Island. This week's art print recommendation is that of a lighthouse in South Portland, Maine, "Spring Point Ledge Light," from my collection of small studies in acrylic paint completed on wooden shingles, some years ago. I have only recently rediscovered this series and hope to be adding more prints to my website in coming months. Have a look! In a time when Covid seems to be making a comeback, stay healthy, be well. Buying art, giving art, even prints, is a joy-- is what I've found. What is it, for you? This week, I feature a print of an acrylic painting done on canvas board at a scale of 7" x 5" in which a single woman is the focus of the painting surrounded in an office setting by her three electronic devices and the single cheeseburger she eats, at the same time. The entire series of paintings follows this format, of which this is one of my favorites. I call this painting, "My Really Important Life #20." Thanks for your interest in my work. 

This week's blog in sound...references a graphic print, a typographic print featuring the verse from John 3:16 and its excellent suitability as a gift, this year. Blog 91, December 6, 2021 offers my first real winter image, one of a slightly blurry shoed-foot trudging thru snow that threatens to cover the ground any moment. This edition recalls Veterans' Day, 2021. A friend has ordered a print from my Americana Collection, the Battle Hymn of the Republic...and has requested this print on raw canvas. A first. What sorts of images grace your home in fall? Here is a suggestion-- from my Photo Gallery, "Maine Lobster Buoys in Fall." I comment on the photo selection in my blog, this week. 

As summer recedes in earnest now, do you have any visual records of this past season...on your walls? Here is a suggestion-- consider a bumble bee. Consider a honey-bee. In this image, you see them both dancing on the same late-summer Sunflower. "Honey-Bee-Bumble Dance." This is a bright, lively image, a remembrance of summer 2021...just as the somber colors of fall arrive with shorter days and dropping temperatures. Consider a photo gift print...this year, in the form of a bee-print from George Delany Art. 

This week's art print recommendation is one from my Americana Collection, the "Preamble" to the United States Constitution, in typographic form. The letterforms are a mix of sans-serif and serif, in reserved tones of red, white, blue and black. The image is dignified, and spare. This poster is only one from this collection, a series of images that have their history dating back to the horrors of 9.11.01 from which was born the first in this series, what I called at the time the "Who We Are Collection." You are invited to check these out. 

As summer falls away...no pun intended, one idea for your fall wall decor collection comes in the form of one of my favorite photos, ever-- taken on the shores of Crocker Pond in Jackman, Maine, after a series of storms blew through leaving behind clean air and brilliant skies as the sun went down over this pristine environment. We knew it was a glorious moment, as it unfolded. I am pleased to try to present this image...via sound!

Star-Spangled Banner: This was the first poster designed in the aftermath of 9.11.01, the first of the series I called, the "Who We Are Collection," in an effort to help bring us back after the horrors of that day. This is the most popular poster of that series, one that went thru two offset printings and is now offered on my website in the Americana Collection, on-demand, in customized sizes, frames, mattes and finished. This collection contains an overarching image of an American flag, one that flew outside this home on that day, one that serves as the common graphic element in all the posters in this series. Layered over the image of the flag are traditional American hymns and verses designed to help remind us in times of trial, who we are. How lamentable it is that on the 20th anniversary of this hideous event the country is taken over, apparently completely, by those who would continue to wish us harm, in possession of many of our most sophisticated weapons. I find it difficult to write this down, here. But here, we are. 

In this podcast, the artist describes his latest August print offering...prints made from an original acrylic-on-masonite highlighting the lone journey of a sailor and his boat off the Newport/Jamestown coast of Rhode Island. The image highlights the vastness of the sea and sky on a brilliant day, contrasted with the almost insignificant presence of the sailor...hence the title, "Sailor Off Newport.' In this image, one gets a sense of the experience of a cruise along Ocean Drive, in Newport, Rhode Island. Here, where the water meets the sky in no uncertain terms, you get a sense of the beauty of this spit of land jutting out into the Atlantic. One of my favorite Rhode Island spots, one of my favorite Rhode Island images. Perhaps you will find it a suitable addition to your August art print collection. In this image, taken from an original acrylic painting, small, on canvas board, you see an Executive VP HR entering the waves, topless, with her laptop-- a preposterous commentary on times. One of my favorite summertime painting art prints, and one I had fun painting. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm.

Another from my Americana Collection, this one, "American Revival," one created once again in response to the horrors of 9.11.01...and inspired by my observations on Americans seeking to rebuild our social fabric, our tattered culture and our national economy. Star Spangled Banner Poster: This poster was the first of many I was moved to design after the events of 9.11.01. It was my way of making a contribution I thought would be helpful to some Americans-- in bringing us together after a national tragedy. The entire first series (I called my "Who We Are Collection") later won a gold award with Graphis Poster Annual, and was at some point entered in its entirety, into the permanent collection at the Library of Congress. In the meantime, several of the posters in this collection have printed a second and even third time. Posters have found their way into classrooms, have traveled over seas, have been given as gifts. I have been gratified. Thank you for your interest and support. 

Honeysuckle Wall: This week's sound file describes my recommended art print this week-- an image of Honeysuckle at high season...such as is depicted in my photo. The charm and essence of the image lies in the interplay between the fine, white Honeysuckle plants and the wall of greenery, the leaves, that bind the image together in a rhythmical fashion. Thank you for your interest and support. 

First episode, George Delany Art Podcast, featuring an image of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center I painted in water color some two years before the horrors of 9.11.01. The image features the spectacular New York Twin Towers skyline in late afternoon, sun glistening off the buildings, set upon the deep blue of the Hudson River and its enormous, capital letters in stencil type spelling out the words, New York.  Prints are now available.
