We're back... Season Two!
with Laura Jackson
Our guest this week is an activist who founded the ‘Januhairy’ movement back in 2019. An initiative that encourages women to grow their body hair for the month of January and share images of themselves online, whilst also donating to ‘Body Gossip’, a charity that combines Arts & Education to empower everybody to be the best version of themselves.
Our guest first started growing out her body hair in May 2018 as part of her drama degree performance at the University of Exeter. After feeling liberated and more confident in herself, she thought of Januhairy and became eager to get more friends and family involved for the month of Januhairy.
The campaign hashtag has now attracted thousands of posts from women across the world. Januhairy is not about shaming women who choose to remove body and facial hair, as our guest has said for the Guardian online at the beginning of this year; “Shave whenever you want to, but make sure you’re making the choice for you... It’s not just about hair, it’s about building a conversation around the subject.”
We’re incredibly excited to announce our final guest for our first season. This week we’re getting personal with Laura Jackson.
Thank you so much to everyone who has listened this season, we'll be back very soon with our second series and some incredible guests! In the meantime, you can find us on Instagram @gettingpersonalpodcast. Send us a message with who you would like to hear on the show next, and make sure to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts.

He has also performed live at The Great Escape, Sundown Festival, and BBC Introducing Live. She has written extensively on what it is like to be an autistic woman and her personal experiences since learning she was autistic in recent years.

With each encounter during the evening, the vast discrepancies between what she is thinking, and feeling, and what she is able to say is revealed. with Lennon Stella
This week we are getting personal with the fabulous singer-songwriter and former ‘Nashville’ actress, Lennon Stella.
At 21, Lennon has already had over 9 years of experience in the entertainment industry, having been cast at just 12 years old for a leading role on the hit US TV show, ‘Nashville’ alongside her younger sister Maisy. The show gave them a unique opportunity to not only act, but to sing and even write songs for the series as well. They have since performed together as a duo for years, and have even released a children’s book together.
Since ‘Nashville’ ended in 2018 she has launched an incredible solo career collaborating with some of the biggest artists in the charts right now, including Liam Payne, The Chainsmokers, Meghan Trainor and Jonas Blue. In April of this year, Lennon released her debut studio album ‘Three. Two. One.’ Not only does she have an extraordinary musical talent, but she has a rare ability to tap into emotions with her songwriting and a beautiful connection with her listeners. Her songs are raw and personal and reflect a wisdom well beyond her years.
We sat down for a chat about how quarantine produced the biggest flood of emotions, her relationship with her sister, and what it was like to grow up in the public eye.
Thank you so much to Lennon for taking the time to speak to us, you can listen to her debut studio album ‘Three. Two. One.’ now and find her on Instagram @lennonstella

with Pervis Taylor
This week we sat down for an open and honest conversation with mental health expert, celebrity life coach and author Pervis Taylor.
Having recently published his book, Surthrival Mode, Pervis talks openly about his revolutionary views of emotions and mental health by depicting his own personal narrative of abuse, depression and low self-esteem.
Through his writing, Pervis has found a devoted audience of young men of colour who connect with his progressive vision of masculinity and emotional intelligence. In this episode, he emphasises the importance of acknowledging how labelling and stereotyping can leave black men and women unable to have a space to express and accept their emotions, and opens up a crucial conversation about the ways in which race and gender come into play in emotional situations.
Pervis currently lends his expertise to the New York City Department of Education, as well as several colleges across the city and has been invited to take part in CUNY’s Black Male Initiative, and honored as a ‘BE Modern Man’ by Black Enterprise Magazine.
Thank you so much to Pervis for taking the time to speak to us from New York this week about his personal experiences and journey with emotions. We are incredibly honoured. You can find him on Instagram here and his book is available to purchase here.
TW: Suicide. During the recording for this episode, there is brief mention of suicide and depression. Pervis also shared a story about a friend of his who died by suicide which was not included in the final cut. Whilst we think it is incredibly important to have discussions about topics such as this, after consulting with Samaritans guidelines for broadcast media, we felt that as distinguishing details were revealed, it was not appropriate to include this segment. If you or someone you know needs confidential support and advice, you can reach the Samaritans by phone 116 123 or via email jo@samaritans.org
We also apologise in advance for some of the audio in this episode, unfortunately we had a few sound issues as Pervis did not have access to a microphone.
