EPISODE 55: David Magley (revisits) - TBL's New Teams and Manageable Growth

Our guest today is David Magley. David is the president of The Basketball League (TBL). TBL is about to start their 3rd season in the early half of 2021. During this offseason they have seen significant growth. The league often compares themselves to what AA baseball is here in the US, meaning that they are the 3rd highest talent-level of basketball in the US; first being the NBA and the G-League being second. We talk about the teams that are no longer, the cut-short season of last year, COVID19 percausions for their current tryouts, the new teams for next year, and manageable growth (among other topics.) EPISODE 52: Chloe Young - Women's Hockey in Scotland and England

EPISODE 52: Chloe Young - Women's Hockey in Scotland and England

We've talked hockey before, and we have talked women's hockey before. In the past, we looked at a totally different region. In past episodes we have looked at the current state of hockey, specifically women's hockey, in Asia. For this episode, our guest, Chloe Young, helps us break down the current state of women's hockey in Scotland and England. Chloe plays hockey in Scotland and is an ambassador for women's hockey, so her insight is immensely valuable. If you haven't already, we would encourage you to go back and listen to to past episodes, episode 19 with Danielle Imperial and episode 29 with Kayla Franchesca. These two episodes also talk about women's hockey. We'd encourage you to listen to those episodes first and then this episode. Once that is done, you can compare and contrast the differences in the different regions when it comes to women's hockey. Both regions are in the beginning stages, but for what reasons? Are they both being held back for the same reasons? What can be done to change it? Where role international competition play when it comes to the growth of a league in a country? What is the future for women's hockey in Scotland and England? All this and more in this special episode of The Globally Ballin Podcast. Please enjoy, thank you!

EPISODE 51: Matt August - Men's Professional Volleyball in the Czech Republic

In the past, we talked with Zach Melcher, a professional mens volleyball player who played in the Czech Republic. For this episode we are also joined with a mens professional volleyball player who played in the Czech Republic, Matt August. While also coming from the same region of the country, Zach and Matt have different stories. We believe that this is a very important reminder to you listeners and athletes. While on the surface two stories may seem like they should be the same, all players are different therefore all their stories and experiences are also different. While you may not relate to one you may relate from another. This episode is absolutely the case. Matt and Zach's journeys are different therefore their stories and lessons are different. Please enjoy this episode with special guest, Matt August, while we talk about things like the regionality of mens volleyball, where it is growing in the US, the awareness of the opportunities at a high school level, the different leagues in Europe and around the world and so much more. EPISODE 50: Richie Burke - Head Coach of the Washington Spirit of the NWSL

EPISODE 50: Richie Burke - Head Coach of the Washington Spirit of the NWSL

First off, THANK YOU all for your support. 50 episodes is a major milestone and we thank all of you!

In the past, when we talked with Claire Winter in episode 22, we talked about the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League). We did not dive much into the league because Claire's journey did not include a stint in the NWSL. However, since then, we have been hoping to get to talk with someone in the league; today is the day. For this episode we were joined with head coach of the Washington Spirt, Richie Burke. The Washington Spirt are one of the teams in the NWSL. In the interview we discuss a few key things like, what is the effect of having two different teams in market that play the same sport? Does it split the market share? Does it develop a sense of partnership? Where does the NWSL rank in the rest of the world? What are the expansion plans of the NWSL? What was the effect of past attempts at professional women's soccer in the US? Pay issue, is there really an issue? Why do the athletes need more? All of these questions and more in this special episode of The Globally Ballin Podcast!

A special thank you is in order to our guest for this episode, Coach Richie Burke. Also, thank you to our sponsors and partners, Stanley Customs (Instagram @stanley_customs) as well as Creating Young Minds and the Lewisville Yellowjackets of TBL. EPISODE 49: Meghana Reddy Gundlapally - Rhythmic Gymnastics in India and Around the World

EPISODE 49: Meghana Reddy Gundlapally - Rhythmic Gymnastics in India and Around the World

This episode takes a look at the (for some of you, new) sport of rhythmic gymnastics in India as well as around the world. In addition to the basics of the sport and the growth of it around the world, our guest, Meghana, dives deeper into the motivation that it took to work on being the best in India. As a sport that is not given much spotlight in India (it is huge in other parts of the world) Meghana speaks about the looniness that was felt as she would go and train with just her mom watching. This is something many of you athletes can relate to. That massive amount of motivation that Meghana needed and the clear picture of her vision that she had was what made it possible for her to become a pioneer in the sport in a country that is second most populated. This motivation and vision of your goal is something many of you can relate to. So whether or not you know anything about rhythmic gymnastics, I encourage you to give this interview with Meghana a listen. Thank you and enjoy!

EPISODE 46: Mike Sugamosto - President of the Syracuse Stallions - New Team in TBL

This episode is another double feature. Our first guest is the President of the Syracuse Stallions which, at the time of recording this, was the newest team to join The Basketball League for the 2021 season; there have since been two others, Little Rock and another to be revealed later. Our second guest is the President of The Basketball League, itself, David Magley. You may remember David from a previous episode. David, if you haven't heard it yet was a guest on episode 7 (his wife and the CEO of TBL was a guest on the next very next episode). The Stallions started in the ABA and are now joining TBL, a league that considers itself third when it comes to talent level in The United States. The episode will start with a more focused look on the Stallions themselves and then close out with David taking a broader view of the addition of the Stallions and TBL as a whole and how it sits right now as they look to the 2021 season. Make sure you don’t miss this episode with both our special guests to get an inside look at The Basketball League and its newest (at the time) addition.

EPISODE 44: Beau Bell - NFL, UFL, CFL and the AFL

EPISODE 44: Beau Bell - NFL, UFL, CFL and the AFL

Full disclosure, I heard about Beau Bell from watching A&E's 4th and Loud. As I have mentioned before, this docuseries followed the LA Kiss' inaugural season in 2014 in the Arena Football League; we talked with the quarterback from this same docuseries, JJ Raterink, in episode 36. Once I started to look into Beau, who played a significant role in the docuseries, I found that Beau has quite the experience playing professional (American) football. As you can see in the title, Beau played in 4 different professional leagues. In addition, he was in upper management within the AFL at the end of his career. In addition to his playing experience and stories, Beau also, because of his management role and the time of this role, brings an interesting perspective to the fall of the AFL. As the GM for the Philadelphia Soul during the last year of the AFL, Beau tells how he found out about the fall of the AFL and what his reaction was. As you can probably tell by the time length of this episode, there is a lot here; this is because Beau has a lot of stories and experiences to pass on. Players like Beau are special and need to be heard. Their story is one of continuous work. Their stories do not contain multi-year contracts and job security, instead their stories require a day-to-day grind, otherwise, they are out of a job. Alright, that's enough, enjoy our episode with special guest, Beau Bell.

A special thank you is in order to our guests for this episode, Beau Bell. Also, thank you to our sponsors and partners, Stanley Customs (Instagram @stanley_customs) as well as Creating Young Minds and the Lewisville Yellowjackets of TBL. Also, thank you listeners for all of your support. Your support is the reason we are able to continue this.

EPISODE 43: Luke Hamilton and Brian Hertzog - College, Minor League, and International Baseball Umpires

EPISODE 43: Luke Hamilton and Brian Hertzog - College, Minor League, and International Baseball Umpires

Together, Luke Hamilton and Brian Hertzog refer to themselves as the "Luke Brian Tour." Their names coupled with the fact that they "tour" the world doing various baseball umpiring gigs results in their nickname.

I won't ask you, but, instead, I will admit that I have yelled far too many times at umpires convinced that they missed a call either on purpose or out of lack of ability and thousands more times silently in my head. I'm sure you all have experienced this as well. You may have wanted to immediately take back what you said. Maybe you hoped they didn't hear you. Maybe you even went to apologize to them later. The thing is though, you are not the first nor will you be the last to yell at these men and women trying to honestly do their jobs. Why do we yell? I bet if it was all computerized we wouldn't yell right? How does it feel to be the umpire being yelled at? What about when, as an umpire, you are yelled at and you were actually wrong, then what? All these questions and more including discussions on a general view of baseball around the world witnessed from a new perspective (the eyes of an umpire) on this episode of The Globally Ballin Podcast; don't miss it.

A special thank you is in order to our guests for this episode, Brian Hertzog and Luke Hamilton. EPISODE 41: Sports in Australia - Matt Ellis (Cricket) & Andrew Potter (NBL1 Southern Sabres)

EPISODE 41: Sports in Australia - Matt Ellis (Cricket) & Andrew Potter (NBL1 Southern Sabres)

This Saturday, we have a double feature. We decided to take two different interviews and put them together. Both these interviews have a very strong commonality and that is they are both talking about sports in Australia. For our first interview and the first half of the show, we were blessed to talk with Matt Ellis. Matt hosts The Cricket Library Podcast a podcast dedicated to,  you guessed it, cricket. Cricket is a sport that, here in the US, the average person does not know a whole lot about. So we called in the best cricket expert we knew to talk about one of Australia's most popular sports. Matt breaks down the sport and together we connect it to baseball to help some of you (including myself) understand the sport more. We talk opportunities in the sport, as well as, the grown and span of the sport. We also address the question, why is it not popular in the U.S.? All this and more is in our first half of the episode.

For the second half of the episode, we were blessed to have the head coach of the Southern Sabres, a team in the NBL1 (women's league), Andrew Potter. Andrew talks specifics of the NBL1, as well as, the other leagues in Australia. Even though Andrew is a part of NBL1, he gives a great overview of the different basketball levels and opportunities in Australia. For a wide grasp of basketball in Australia including opportunities for both men and women, and both people from Australia and from outside of Australia, this interview with Andrew is for you.

A special thank you is in order to our guests this week Matt Ellis and Andrew Potter. Also, thank you to our sponsors and partners, Stanley Customs (Instagram @stanley_customs) as well as Creating Young Minds and the Lewisville Yellowjackets of TBL. EPISODE 40: Oscar Lopez (Gridiron Beauties) - Women's Tackle Football

EPISODE 40: Oscar Lopez (Gridiron Beauties) - Women's Tackle Football

For this week, we were blessed to have our guest, Oscar Lopez join us. Oscar Lopez is the head of a media outlet entitled, “Gridiron Beauties.” Gridiron Beauties is an outlet that spotlights the best women’s tackle football as well as the best women’s tackle football athletes around the world. In the past, we talked with the owner of the Seattle Spartans of the WFA, Nicole Pelham. During that interview (episode 25), we took a more specific look at women’s tackle football by specifically looking at the Seattle Spartans, and using them as a “case study” of sorts. For this episode, we broaden the look of women’s tackle football. Oscar Lopez of Gridiron Beauties is perfect for this. Gridiron beauties takes a look at all the opportunities in this sport around the world. So, after we received great feedback from our interview with Nicole Pelham, we knew that we needed to get another guest to talk about the same topic, but we wanted to broaden it up. So, instead of looking at one team in one league, in our discussion with Mr. Lopez, we talk about the different leagues, the many different teams spanning both the country and the globe, and even compare the indoor and outdoor opportunities. We hope you enjoy this more broadened look at women’s tackle football around the world.

A special thank you is in order to our guest this week Oscar Lopez. Also, thank you to our sponsors and partners, Stanley Customs (Instagram @stanley_customs) as well as Creating Young Minds and the Lewisville Yellowjackets of TBL. EPISODE 39: Josh Boone - Basketball Around the World (China, Russia, Australia, and much more)

EPISODE 39: Josh Boone - Basketball Around the World (China, Russia, Australia, and much more)

Typically, I like to write, in the title, some of the countries in which my guest for the episode played. The reason why I did not do that this week is because my guest played in a bunch of different places. He started off playing in the NCAA for the UCONN Huskies. He was then drafted in the 1st round to the New Jersey Nets. Following his time in the NBA Josh traveled the world playing basketball with a few stints back in the US to play in the D-League (now the G-League) and tryout for other NBA clubs. His journeys overseas took him to such countries as, China, the Philippines, Estonia, Russia, Turkey, Bahrain, Hong Kong, and Australia. Out of all our guests, Josh probably had the strongest resume when he started playing overseas so, his experiences will be different from the stories that we have heard in the past.  Josh's journey is full of ups and downs, and this detailed interview will talk about a great deal of them. No two stories are exactly alike, and Josh's is definitely different. So, enjoy this weeks episode with our special guest, Josh Boone.

A special thank you is in order to our guest this week Josh Boone. EPISODE 38: Paul Boyette Jr. - NFL Training Camp, Practice Squad, and Football in Japan

Paul Boyette Jr, played football at Texas. Soon after, he spent his time on the practice squad for the Oakland Raiders. After, he spent some time competing for a few different spots in training camps. Most recently, Boyette signed on to play professional football in Japan in the X-Leauge. The defensive end has a wealth of information on the mindset of playing on a practice squad as well as the financial aspect of it. In addition, we talk about the balancing of hope when you get a call to compete at a training camp. Finally, we talk about his future in the X-League. Since, this is our first interview about Japanese [American] football and Boyette has not been there yet, together we look into his potential future in Japan.

EPISODE 37: Zach Melcher - Professional Men's Volleyball in the Czech Republic

EPISODE 37: Zach Melcher - Professional Men's Volleyball in the Czech Republic

This week, we get to discuss a new topic for the show. Our guest for this episode is Zach Melcher. Zach is a professional volleyball player. Most recently, Zach played professional volleyball in the Czech Republic until COVID-19 altered the plans for the season a little bit. Zach just finished his first year, so he brings an interesting perspective to the conversation as he can accurately compare his time in the Czech Republic to his time playing at GCU. In addition, since it is so recent, Zach can and does give step-by-step instructions to how he was able to play overseas. One awesome advantage to playing sports overseas is the fact that you are being paid to travel and play the sport that you love. Zach adds even more optimism to any of you hoping to travel when playing volleyball when he discusses a friend of his and all the places he was able to travel two while playing in Europe. We talk, process, atmosphere, money, travel and a whole lot more on this episode, enjoy.

A special thank you is in order to our guest this week Zach Melcher. EPISODE 36: J.J. Raterink - AFL (LA KISS, Iowa Barnstormers, and many others), AF2, CAFL

Here’s your first warning, if you have not done so and have the time, you should go watch “Fourth and Long” on Amazon Prime. The 10 part documentary details the inaugural season of the LA KISS of the AFL. One of the main focuses of the documentary series was the quarterback, J.J. Raterink. Now J.J. (our guest this week), played in A LOT of other places other than the LA KISS and I absolutely do not want to diminish his successful career with just his time in LA; J.J. played all over the place and was a very successful quarterback for many years in the AFL. J.J. also spent some time playing in the AF2 and arena football in China. Now that being said, “Fourth and Long,” was a large featured series on AMC, so we can’t just gloss over it. J.J. will walk you listeners through is time in the AFL, as well as, answers some specific questions about the documentary and his time with the LA KISS. J.J. also give a brief bit of time talking about area football in China, a topic we have yet to bring up on the show. Thank you J.J. for your time; we appreciate your insight on the AFL, AF2, and arena football in China. Also, thank you listeners for all of your support. Your support is the reason we are able to continue this.

EPISODE 35: Cory Riordan - Baseball in Korea, Taiwan and around the world

EPISODE 35: Cory Riordan - Baseball in Korea, Taiwan and around the world

When it comes to a podcast called, “The Globally Ballin Podcast,” it stands to reason that the more experiences in different places a guest has the better. That being said, Our guest this week, Cory Riordan, is a gold mine. Cory played in Korea, Taiwan, Venezuela Winter League, Dominican Republic Winter League, Independent Baseball on the US East Coast, Minor League Spring Training and I am sure more spots. Those of you listeners out there that play baseball or are big baseball fans, you have probably heard of winter ball. Cory, has an amazing perspective on what it is, it’s importance, and where some of the top leagues are for winter ball. In addition to all these different locations, Cory, talks about a story directly related to all this travel that, incidentally, is one of my top worries when it comes to travel. Don’t miss this Saturday Special, with our guest this week, Cory Riordan. Thank you to Cory as well as thank you to you listeners, it is because of your support that we are able to keep doing this.

With increased material for you the listener, it takes more time and money to produce. If you value what we are doing and would like to see us continue and would like to maybe see us increase the number of episodes we put out each week, you may want to consider supporting us. EPISODE 34: Carlos Mirabal - Baseball in Japan and Taiwan

EPISODE 34: Carlos Mirabal - Baseball in Japan and Taiwan

BASEBALL FINALLY! This week we will be discussing the opportunities to play baseball in a few countries outside of the United States. Specifically, our guest will be telling his story of playing in Japan and Taiwan. Most of you baseball fans out there know about Japanese baseball, I would guess. But I wonder how many of you know about Taiwanese baseball. Furthermore, I wonder just how many of you know what it is actually like to play over in these other leagues. Well, this week we will attempt to clear that up for you. Our guest, Carlos Mirabal, spent several years overseas and does a great job illustrating the journey of a baseball player as they bounce from league to league and level to level. There are ups and downs and promising opportunities and tough times. It is a journey with which any true baseball fan should be familiar. In addition, if you are a baseball player and you are unaware of the opportunities over seas and what it is like to play outside of the US (specifically, in Japan and Taiwan) this episode is for you. Thank you to our guest this week, Carlos Mirabal of the [Hokkaido] Nippon-Ham Fighters in Japan (among other teams) for his time, stories and practical advice. In addition, thank you to all you listeners out there, it is because of you that the team at Globally Ballin and I are able to continue this! Please enjoy this weeks episode, thank you.

EPISODE 33: Jeremy Burright - Basketball Around the World and TBL

Have you ever decided on something that you wanted to do or a field you wanted to pursue, but always had a back-up plan of sorts? Now, flip that; have you ever been so "for sure" about a decision that you slammed the figurative door behind you and burned the bridges on the way out to make sure that there was no going back? Well, you can probably guess by this style of writing, but our guest this week did the latter of the two. Jeremy put himself in a situation where there was no turning back. To many of you that may seem scary, but Jeremy's reasoning was sound; it was something he had to do, and he did it. Jeremy played in a few different stops in Europe, as well as, a brief stint in China and some time in The Basketball League (TBL). Jeremy is a fun listen and gives a lot of great insight. Thank you to all you listeners, if is because of your support that we are able to do this. Also thank you to our guest this week, Jeremy Burright.

EPISODE 32: Shaq Wallen - American Football indoor and in Brazil

EPISODE 32: Shaq Wallen - American Football indoor and in Brazil

Shaq, like a few of our other guests played some indoor football. He bounced around a few teams in a few different leagues in the indoor football world including the NAL. Following some time playing indoor football, Shaq was presented with a very intriguing offer (and something we have not had on the show yet), to go and play America football in Brazil. While still icing his knees, Shaq was given this option and he had to decide quickly (which is often the case with our guests). Shaq took the option and went to Brazil to play. What makes Shaq different than our other international American football guests, however, is the fact that Shaq is a lineman. Most of the leagues in Europe have a limited number of imports which usually leads to them only getting a quarterback or a running back. However, Shaq will make a decent argument for why these teams should consider taking a good lineman as one of their imports. Please enjoy this episode as we discuss some topics that are familiar to us and some brand new topics. Thank you to our guest this week, Shaq Wallen. Thank you also to you listeners, it is because of you that we are able to continue to do this week in and week out. Stay healthy and stay safe where ever you are listening and thank you again for your support.

EPISODE 31: Dr. Shira Ackerman & Coach Mathis Crowder - The Basketball League (Lewisville Yellow Jackets and Creating Young Minds)

EPISODE 31: Dr. Shira Ackerman & Coach Mathis Crowder - The Basketball League (Lewisville Yellow Jackets and Creating Young Minds)

You have heard of TBL before, but Dr. Ackerman and Coach Crowder have a lot more to say. Their interview is a lot more than just TBL talk. Dr. Ackerman and Coach Crowder, we at Globally Ballin can honestly say, have given us the most interesting perspective and view on the world of college sports. You have to give this a listen and see what you think. Their view of college sports directly connects to their work with "Creating Young Minds." These two are both wonderful people and a great interview. Enjoy this episode as we talk, TBL, college basketball politics, building a new stadium and "Creating Young Minds." If you have enjoyed our deep-dive episodes in the past and love people who think outside of the box when it comes to sports, this episode is for you. Thank you to our guest for this episode. And as always, thank you to the listeners for all your support, we could not be doing this without you.

EPISODE 30: Chris Tan - Basketball in the Philippines

EPISODE 30: Chris Tan - Basketball in the Philippines

Our guest this week is Chris Tan. Chris makes a wonderful guest, because besides his wonderful ability as an interviewee, his two past roles and now his current role make him able to check all three of the boxes of our mission statement here at Globally Ballin, "Promote leagues, spotlight teams & opportunities and tell players' stories." Chris Tan, first, played in the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association), next he became an import recruiter (someone who tries to get foreigners to play in the PBA), and now, currently, Chris is the assistant coach for the Meralco Bolts of the PBA,  We have talked about the PBA before, but not from a perspective like this. The PBA might shock you when you hear their "salary cap." It may shock you to hear who has played in the league. It may shock you to hear the number of players who continue to go back there to be an import for the league. I would like to thank our guest this week, Mr. Chris Tan. And, as always, thank you to you listeners, it is because of you that Globally Ballin can continue to do what we do, thank you!

EPISODE 29: Kayla Franchesca - Women's Hockey in Asia

EPISODE 29: Kayla Franchesca - Women's Hockey in Asia

Although she started off in the Philippines, our guest for this weeks episode, Kayla Franchesca is now in Australia playing hockey and training. Kayla experienced the very beginning of hockey in the Philippines. During a time when there were less than 10 women in the entire country interested in hockey, Kayla became passionate about the sport. Since then it has grown in the Philippines to the point of having a national hockey team; all of this change has happened in a relatively short amount of time. Kayla's story is important because it represents a scenario in which our increasingly globalized world has begun to change sports around the world. In the past we would not expect a hot country like the Philippines to consider something cold like hockey and, in the past, you would be right. In today's world, though, this is no longer the case. A passion for a sport knows no bounds or country boarder. Kayla does a great job speaking to this. Thank you to all you listeners for your support, it is because of you that we are able to do this. Also, thank you to Kayla for her wonderful interview. For the record, Globally Ballin officially supports D2 the Mighty Ducks as the best movie (not just sports movie) in history, no questions asked.

We have talked once in the past about American football in Europe a while back. Today, we revisit that topic with a new guest. Our special guest, Sean Shelton has spent several years in Europe including in Paris, Helsinki as well as some time in Austria. There are a lot of opportunities that are available for you football players around the world. Sean did a wonderful job giving very valuable detail on his time in Europe and what it might look like for you. EPISODE 27: Chris Thomas - The East Coast Basketball League

EPISODE 27: Chris Thomas - The East Coast Basketball League

If you have learned anything from the Globally Ballin Podcast so far, it is probably something along the lines of, "there are a ton of leagues...wow." Yeah, we are learning the same thing. Today is no exception to this. For this episode, we dive into the East Coast Basketball League (ECBL). This 19 team basketball league stretches from Virginia to Georgia with the two Carolinas in between. EPISODE 19: Danielle Imperial - Hockey in the Philippines

EPISODE 19: Danielle Imperial - Hockey in the Philippines

When you think of ice hockey what countries come to mind? I assume, Canada, the US, different parts of Europe all come to your mind. What about the warm countries do they come to mind? Do you think of the Philippines? If no, why not the Philippines, is it the climate or is there another reason? Okay, so maybe the Philippines did not crack the top of the list in your head for the top ice hockey countries, but consider this, although it's not the top of your list, what would it be like to be a part of the national team for hockey in the Philippines. What do you think it is like, how much do you think they get paid? How recognizable are the players? Do they have to have a second job? See for many of us, when we think of members of a national team, of some of the more major sports (hockey included) we picture a certain type of high-rolling life, but of course, that is not always the case. In this episode, we talk with the captain of the women's national hockey team for the Philippines, Danielle Imperial. Danielle does a magnificent job describing the current state of ice hockey in the Philippines and in southeast Asia in general, as well as, the life of the captain of a national ice hockey team in a country we don't normally think of when we think of ice hockey. Plus, we dive into some of the questions from the beginning of this description. All that and more on today's episode. We want to give another very special "thank you" to our guest for this episode, Danielle Imperial. And, as always, I want to thank you listeners again, without you and your support, we would not be able to continue the show, thank you so very much. EPISODE 15: JoJo Polk - Arena Football League (at its peak)

JoJo is a former star of the Arena Football League. While the Arena Football League is still up and running it is nothing like what it was in the past. During the height of the AFL in which JoJo played, figurines of the players were being made, Jerseys were being sold, stars were getting six figures a year, there was even a video game made about the AFL. The height of the AFL is not talked about much. So we, here, at Globally Ballin decided to change that. Join us in this episode as we interview former star of the AFL JoJo Polk. JoJo bounced around the AFL with stories from every one of his stops including my hometown Grand Rapids Rampage. Underlining this whole journey of JoJo in the AFL was a horrific injury that he endured that the decision and he had to make and what followed his decision. This episode covers a multitude of topics we, here, at Globally Ballin love including, obscure leagues, the truth about injuries, honesty about bright and dark sides of a league and, of course, awesome stories. EPISODE 14: Kevin Wezniak of the Jacksonville Sharks - National Arena League

EPISODE 14: Kevin Wezniak of the Jacksonville Sharks - National Arena League

American Football is very popular here in the US, that is not surprising. It seems as though the NFL stands alone, and while there is not another league close to them, to say they are the only option for football is not accurate. The world of Indoor Football used to be on a massive stage. The AFL used to have ESPN and ABC television contracts and the Arean Bowl used to bring in millions of viewers. Now, while, the AFL has seen some drastic changes as of 2009, indoor football is not gone in the slightest. The Jacksonville Sharks are currently the reigning champions of the National Arena League; ou guest, Kevin Wezniak is the majority shareholder of the Jacksonville Sharks. Join me in this episode as I learn all about the world of indoor football during and following the fall of Arena Football. Kevin does a great job detailing the ins and outs of both the National Arena League. If you love football (and potentially want to make a future of it) but are not familiar with the National Arena League, this is the episode for you. A special thank you to my guest for this episode, Kevin Wezniak. Thank you to the listeners for making this all possible, and enjoy!

Questions like this have fascinated me for quite some time. Now, in this shorter episode this week, I am joined with a promoter of the 2019 South East Asian Games (SEA Games) to be held in the Philippines in November, Karen Caballero. EPISODE 9: Hidilyn Diaz - Olympic Gold Medal Hopeful

EPISODE 9: Hidilyn Diaz - Olympic Gold Medal Hopeful

The Philippines is an interesting place. In terms of population, it is in the top tier of countries. When it comes to poverty, sure there are impoverished areas but it would crazy to say other places around the world do not struggle with poverty more on a wider scale. Yet, the Philippines is one of only a few countries left with so gold medal in the Olympics. In the 2016 Olympic Games, the Philippines was represented with a silver medal winner, Hidilyn Diaz, a female weightlifter. Hidilyn then went and won gold in the following Asian Games. Now, she is the favorite in the even more narrowed-competition of the 2019 SEA Games. Yet, her eyes are still set on the 2020 Tokyo Games. Hidilyn has a real chance to be the first ever gold medal winner in the Philippines. And, as a country that celebrates their athletes on a completely different level (when they are successful), that is an achievement that one can not take lightly. However, Hidilyn has had her share of controversy, some of which has damaged her reputation. Join me as I interview Hidilyn about a number of topics including her past competitions, the upcoming SEA games and Olympics, and the pride she feels representing the Philippines. And, as an extra bonus, the second half of the episode features a discussion I had with the host of the Limihan Basketball Podcast, Lance Fernandez (my go-to for all things Philippines sports) as he helps break down what Hidilyn means to the country and some of the controversy that has followed her career as of late. We apologize for the late post and plan to be back on schedule if not with the next episode then the one after that. Thank you all for listening and thank you once again to Hidilyn and Lance for their contributions to this episode.
