Episode 6 - Metadata with Jordan Lane

Episode 6 - Metadata with Jordan Lane

Episode 6

with guest Jordan Lane - In this episode we talk about organizing photos and what metadata is and why it's useful.

You can find more about Jordan here: https://linktr.ee/thefresheye

As promised, here are some resources for topics we covered in this episode.

This youtube playlist has data editing guides for the three software suites we discussed.

Here is an explanation of flat vs. hierarchal keywording structures.

Here photographer Michael Greco explains his naming system for both digital files and external HDs. The Pro Storage/How To Archive blog also has a lot of posts aimed at photographers.

Here's a piece aimed at optimizing image metadata for web SEO.

There are a ton of web resources to learn Excel and other database software; if you have a library card, there is often access to digital resources like LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda) to learn a ton of skills for free. Here's a two-hour beginner course and a more thorough 6-hour one, both on youtube.

There's a piece of software called Exif Tool that's extremely powerful for users that are looking to bulk-update *just* the metadata. It's a command-line type interface, but if you can get past the intimidation factor of what looks like coding (I'm not a coder either) it allows you to do all of the updates you would do via Lightroom, Photo Mechanic etc. without needing to view the images and all of the clicking.

Here is a link with more details about IG scraping for content and metadata:
