We talk about how she handled notifying the other companies of her decision, and dive into the things she considered in taking this position.

Whenever we get a job offer, it may be tempting to accept immediately, but Carli took all the right steps before doing so and shares those details here.

Episode 3 - Kylie Hanley ‘20 Parks, Recreation and Tourism

In today's episode, Kylie provides an update on what's been going on for her the past couple of weeks and we talk about a pivot in her career search strategy.

One of the questions that we dive into is whether or not she should start to look at part time jobs. The answer is always going to be about your happiness. When you're looking at job descriptions, how do you feel? Are you smiling? Does it really resonate with you? You have to do what's best for yourself, so we talk about some strategies of how she might take a part time job and pair it with something else.

We also get into one of her side activities that could end up being a small business for her. It's something that students and listeners today could practically apply in their own lives.

Episode 6 - Carli Riibner ‘20 Business Administration - Marketing Focus

Today's episode with Carly is a really exciting one. Last week she talked about having an upcoming interview for a sales role, and we talk about how it went, specific questions she was asked, and how she responded to a salary request question. We also talk about another interview she's had with another company.

She's been executing against my advice and has opened up so many doors for herself. She's likely going to have a fourth interview because there's a new company that is creating a role, which she found out during a networking call!

Carly is crushing it and it's really exciting to see, but it's also very practical for you all as listeners everything that Caly has done up until this point you'll see the references to people that she has spoken with and how they've opened doors for her and it's just contributed to her success so far.

Episode 5 - Carli Riibner ‘20 Business Administration - Marketing Focus

In the 5th episode of the series with Carly, we have some really exciting updates!

Last time we talked about how she executed against my networking advice and ended up getting a few application referrals. She's had an interview since our last chat  with a small marketing agency and is  waiting to hear back if they're going to be able to hire her.

She also has another interview coming up and there's a potential third interview on the horizon. In 6 weeks, Carly's had four job application referrals. She's had a number of conversations with people I've recommended to her.  And she's had one interview with two more on the way.

We talk in detail about how to prep for Carly's upcoming interview, and she  shares how she was able to connect with someone who works at that company via someone I recommended she speak with a few weeks ago. She talks specifically what she asks in that conversation with the person who works for that company, and there's some really good advice in what you can do as you start to prep for interviews and as you have informational interviews with people where you're applying or where you're interviewing.

How following up and keeping a connection led to a application referall - with Carli Riibner ‘20 Business Administration - Marketing Focus

In this short clip, Carli talks about interviewing with the Wedding Wire but not being offered the position. She was told it was not her, but it was the timing for the position.

What she did next was crucial: she followed-up and asked to stay in touch if any roles opened up at a later date and eventually had an informational interview with the hiring manager.

That hiring manager eventually referred Carli for an open position because she had kept in touch!

Most people don’t do this and not only is it a way for you to stand out, you never know when a job might open up and who can help you get a foot in the door.

Enjoy!

Why Company Culture is Important When Deciding Where to Work - with Carli Riibner ‘20 Business Administration - Marketing Focus

In this short clip, Carli talks about the differences between her internships at Sirius XM and one for a professional women’s soccer team.

What Carli realized is that while she’s more passionate about soccer than music, she enjoyed her internship at Sirius XM more because of the company culture.

That’s why it’s important for you to study a company's culture and ask questions about it during informational and formal interviews.

Carli goes into much more detail about these experiences in her 3rd episode - be sure to check it out when it launches next week!
