Gutters & Panels

By Gutters and Panels

Gutters & Panels is a podcast dedicated to new comics emerging on the horizon. The spaces between panels are called gutters. This is where the action takes place or events can transpire and the panel shows only the before and after. New comics need all the exposure they can get. Falling into the gutter while a more established title takes center stage can make the difference between a new comic succeeding or failing. I am lucky enough to access new comics when and sometimes before they are published. Hear my review and then make your own decision to purchase one of these wonderful books.

Evermore Falls

Evermore Falls

"EVERMORE FALLS is a love letter to the high-flying adventures of the Amblin era of excitement. Stories where everything was possible and anything could happen (and it usually did!). Worlds beyond our imagination - escapism at its finest."

Explore a new world and new possibilities. Start with a visit to Hopewood Hollows and then journey into a world of mystery in Evermore Falls. These characters are your guides.

Meet Izzy who is Precocious, Bored, and looking for adventure. Izzy’s friend Milo might seem like the type to hide but he is Izzy's faithful companion. Then there is Seth a Bully who calls Izzy Fang because she has a chipped tooth. And poor Parker is the Baby-Sitter who has seen quite enough and is ready to go home.

When they meet Reginald Copperbottom — the owner of a curiosity shop, and secretly a resident of Evermore Falls and an inventor they learn about Evermore Falls which is a book and a place and then they meet Clem. Clem is curious and fearless, which might explain why he stole the Eye of Lolar — one of three pieces that make up the The Triad. The Key to the gate that separates Hopewood Hollows and Evermore Falls.

And then there is Morgo the Big Bad and his henchmen Boog and Flitch.

Makhno: Ukrainian Freedom Fighter

Makhno: Ukrainian Freedom Fighter

Makhno: Ukrainian Freedom Fighter

Nestor Ivanovych Miknienko was born in 1888 to a peasant family in the Ukrainian town of Huliaipole.

He was a shepherd by age seven, and a farm worker at 12. Makhno earned his name as an anarchist during the 1905 revolution. At the age of 20, he participated in a failed assassination attempt. He was sentenced to death, and standing on the gallows with his comrades when his sentence was commuted to a lifetime of forced labo. Makhno remained incarcerated until 1917 when the second revolution arose.

His adventures became legends. Makhno led the Soviets in the Huliaipole region, organized communes with 100-300 volunteers, expropriated exploiters, put lands in the hands of poor peasants, placed businesses under self-management, and imposed Francisco Ferrer’s libertarian and avantgarde educational methods in the schools. He founded labor and agricultural unions.

In January 1918, he founded an army, the Makhnovshchina, with railroad worker Viktor Belash at its head. But hard times and the trials of his heart were coming. Whether it was Marusya, Haylyna or his own mother, every woman in Makhno's life paid a price for loving him.

PRESS RELEASE ON 3/22/22

Humanoids has announced that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their upcoming graphic novel MAKHNO: UKRAINIAN FREEDOM FIGHTER will be donated to the Ukrainian nonprofit organization Razom, which supplies medical aid to Ukrainian fighters on the front lines. “In the spirit of Nestor Ivanovich Makhno himself, a courageous freedom fighter who took more than once to the front lines of combat, Humanoids has chosen to donate to the organization working most directly with the freedom fighters of today,” said Humanoids Publisher Mark Waid.
