EP 135 - They Are Coming For Your Children
On the first ever video episode for Latter-day Takes, Andrew Young joins the podcast to talk about his experiences at Dreamworks and how there is an open agenda by the studios (Disney, Pixar, etc.) to "social engineer" children to think a certain way. EP 121 - Bryan Goes Through the Temple for the First Time, Guys with Mustaches, REAL Super Bowl Feedback and much more!
On today's episode we talk about Bryan's experience going through the temple for the first time and the great time that we all had with his friends and family. We also give an ACTUAL recap on the Super Bowl as well as a little blurb about people that we may or may not be friends with and why we don't think we'd be friends with them (this is Harper's idiosyncrasies, not Bryan's). And much more!
EP 120 - Surviving Columbine w/Will Beck, NBA Youngboy is getting baptized? And other shenanigans
EP 119 - Chivalry for other men (in public), University of Idaho Murders, The Death Phenomenon and Bryan's talk in Sacrament
On today's episode Bryan and I discuss a bunch of random topics on our mind (get used to it) from opening doors for other men in public and a weird experience I had to Cam Rising's return to Utah football next year to the University of Idaho murders and the weird attraction people have to the dead. We just keep rolling and I think it's a great time. And then we close it out with a spiritual segment going over Bryan's talk that he shared in his own sacrament meeting just a few weeks ago. Enjoy!
EP 118 - It's A Wonderful Life - Why it's a fantastic movie W/Screenwriter Andy Wankier, Advice for Nephew Mark on his Mission, etc.
On today's episode the main segment revolves around why I think It's A Wonderful Life is the best movie ever. I bring in a friend who's a screenwriter out in LA to debate and discuss the topic. Specifically if it's really a Christmas movie and what about the movie we love, what we think is weird and the many nuances therein. I start today's episode giving some advice to Nephew Mark on his mission and give some thoughts in the intro about the state of BYU sports. Enjoy!
EP 117 - The BYU Sports Bros Fallout, Aftermath of My Last Episode and the Link Between Repentance and Conversion
On today's episode I'm joined by Aaron Kartchner of the Sports Bros Podcast. Aaron and his brother ran the Sports Bros podcast successfully for over 10 years and it has since come to a somewhat controversial ending in the BYU world, unfortunately. Due to their critical approach to assessing BYU coaches and players, the softies of BYU sports fandom called for their boycott. Well, Aaron and I get into all that and his thoughts on the current state of BYU sports. Before Aaron joins me I talk about the unfortunate and sudden passing of Mike Leach as well as the Britney Griner prison swap. And then I close out the episode with some follow-up to my disciplinary council episode as well as some thoughts on the scripture that my bishop shared with me during my council. Enjoy!
EP 116 - My Disciplinary Council w/Bryan Harper
In this episode I bring back Bryan Harper to help facilitate the conversation of my own conversion story (so to speak). I go into some detail about how I veered off the path of the gospel but found my way back via a disciplinary council circa 2017. It's an experience I'll never forget and one that I cherish quite a bit. My goal is for this story to resonate and to help others in their journey if they've fallen off the path to come back and find the courage necessary to come home. Enjoy!
EP 115 - How To Not Leave the Church When You Make A Lot of Money, Why God Allows Bad Things To Happen To Good People, etc.
On today's episode I bring on Kyle Deever who has had an awesome entrepreneurial background and does very well in business AND has stayed an active member of the church. Kyle and I touch on a lot of different topics but one that stood out to me is why a lot of people will leave the church when they become successful in business. Kyle and I discuss some thoughts on that topic among many others. And I close it out sharing some thoughts on why God allows bad things to happen to good people. Enjoy!
EP 114 - No, The Church Doesn't Hate The LGBT Community - w/my mom Dr. Lili De Hoyos Anderson
In this episode my mom comes on again to discuss the recent support of a same sex marriage bill by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My mom gives her thoughts on what this really means for the church and its members. In the beginning we also discuss the recent shootings in Colorado Springs perpetrated by a member of the church. And then I close out with my thoughts on why people are so hesitant to repent. Enjoy!
EP 113 - Hocus Pocus 2 is a Dumpster Fire, and Return of the Goat Man!
On today's episode I give my thoughts on the incoherent John Fetterman running on the democratic ticket for the Pennsylvania Senate against Mehmet Oz. Then I read an email update from Nephew Mark on the mission with a question he had for me that I advise him on. Then I re-share the Goat Man story that was told earlier on in the podcast and then give my review on Hocus Pocus 2 and how much of a garbage movie it is. Then I close it out with a gospel thought on what indicates blessings. Enjoy!
EP 112 - Maybe Trump Is Captain Moroni...IDK, How to get RIPPED, w/Dr. Mike Hansen, and Other Shenanigans
On today's episode, I'm back from a random week off (sorry) and I give my breakdown of the coming elections, including the Mike Lee and Evan McMullin race and why some people are turned off by Mike Lee's comments a few years ago comparing Donald Trump to Captain Moroni...then I get into a conversation on how to get ripped (so I can win a body fat percentage competition with my friends) with Dr. Mike Hansen who has one a couple of form competitions of his own. And then I close it out with some gospel thoughts. Enjoy!
EP 111 - I'm Homophobic?? Apparently? A General Conference Recap, Mission Anniversary, etc.
On today's episode I talk about a recent discovery of homophobia in myself according to "Bros" star and producer, Billy Eichner...as well as a recap of general conference last weekend, my biggest takeaways and how the church's hands off approach is going to lead to more polarization (which is fine, just more daunting) and some thoughts on the foundation my mission set up for me 16 years ago today. Enjoy!
EP 110 - Former College Baseball National Champion and Minor League Pitcher Extraordinaire, Bryan Harper on His Conversion to the Church, A Funny Missionary Email, And Trials of Faith in the BoM
On today's episode a friend of mine, Bryan Harper, comes on to talk about his unique upbringing in the church and how baseball played a focal point for him and his entire family and then his eventual return to the church due to true conversion to the gospel. Bryan has lived a unique life as a college baseball national champion for the University of South Carolina, a minor league pitcher for multiple years at all levels and a brother who is still heavily involved in the baseball world. However, Bryan's journey revolves around how he came around once again to the church and re-discovering his testimony and solidifying himself in the gospel through true conversion at a much later age in his life. Outside of my conversation with Bryan I share a funny missionary email from my nephew as well as a trial of faith highlighted in the Book of Mormon through prominent figures. Enjoy!
EP 109 - Eric Moutsos, Former SLCPD Officer and Freedom Fighter (my words, not his), My Experience at Oregon/BYU, And Don Lemon Gets Owned
On today's pod I start off with a recap of my experience at the BYU/Oregon football game, I highlight a clip of Don Lemon getting completely owned on his own show and then I am honored to bring on Eric Moutsos who made a name for himself by being fired from the SLCPD for refusing to hit citation quotas (when he was already the best on his squad). From there he started pushing back on government overreach wherever he saw it and specifically during the COVID lockdowns when he refused to let the government dictate how we're able to live day-to-day. Eric and I talk about his background, what led him to where he is, the idea of fighting back and what motivates us to do so, Book of Mormon parallels to today, and much, much more. Enjoy!

EP 108 - *SPECIAL* Episode - Jeff Hansen (who I had targeted last episode) Comes on to Clear the Air
On today's special Friday episode, Jeff Hansen comes on to clear the air from my gripe that I had shared on the most recent episode of Latter Day Takes and all the twitter exchanges we've had. Per Jeff's suggestion, we talk it out and both give our view of the situation and it was a very pleasant and positive conversation. Really cool of Jeff to suggest this and I love that, although we don't agree 100% on everything, we're able to come to an understanding that is mutual and very constructive. It's a reminder that we don't all have to agree on everything (even though Jeff points out that we mainly did and do agree more than we disagreed).
Enjoy!
EP 107 - BYU Was Never Racist - Featuring the BYU Blog Boys That Came After Me, Mental Health and Repentance, And a Funny Softball Story
On today's pod I give a recap on why the BYU blog boys came after (spoiler alert: I had it coming). And yes, it involves the racist allegations that have to this point been unfounded. My gripe mainly revolves around their spineless response and unbelievable willingness to throw BYU and its fans under the bus. I give the whole break down in the middle segment. I start off the episode with a funny/crazy softball story that I've been told is pretty entertaining. And I sum it up talking about the connection between mental health and repentance. It involves a parallel between Coriantumr (from the end of Ether) and Alma the Younger. Enjoy!
EP 106 - I'm Coaching PowderPuff Now? A Crazy Softball Story, and A Ute Fan Casey Sato Claps Back
On today's episode I share a crazy softball story that shouldn't have ended the way it did. Then Casey Sato comes on to talk about his experience witnessing the heartbreak in Gainesville as a Utah fan and also to defend his boy, Cam Rising. Then we discuss our game plan for PowderPuff football that we'll be coaching this weekend. And then I close it out with a spiritual segment on what trials are actually leading us to with specific examples from the Book of Mormon. Enjoy!
EP 105 - Are BYU Fans Racist? Or is this Jussie Smollet 2.0? Church response to AP article, and more!
On today's episode I go over the church's response to the AP News article on the abuse hotline scandal. I then bring in BYU sports insider, Jake Hatch to talk about the racist accusation at the BYU women's volleyball game last weekend and then we get into the BYU football season expectations, etc. And then I close it out with some individual thoughts on the incident at the volleyball game and then a spiritual thought on why I think some of the younger people are becoming more and more disillusioned with the church. Enjoy!
EP 104 - Student Loan Forgiveness is a JOKE, BYU Fall Scrimmage Recap w/Austin Story and Chase Bartholomew, and Two Types of Sorrow as Pointed out in the Book of Mormon
On today's episode I give my thoughts on the student loan forgiveness plan that the White House has come out saying they're going to implement. Then I kick it to the recap of the BYU Fall scrimmage with Austin Story and Chase Bartholomew. We witnessed the event live and give our thoughts on that. And then I close it out talking about two types of sorrow that is highlighted by the prophet Mormon in the Book of Mormon and how we likely conflate happiness with pleasure, etc. Enjoy!
EP 103 - Why is Everyone Leaving the Church?
In this episode I fly solo. I share five reasons why I think a lot of people are leaving the church these days. I'd be curious to know your reasons as well. To hear the reasons you'll have to listen to the episode! And of course I have a news segment and a gospel thought to close it out that shares one of the most prescient Neal A. Maxwell quotes I've ever heard. Enjoy!
EP 102 - The Dating Game (In Utah) and other amazing stories - w/Audrey Chugg and Brooke Woolf
In this episode I get into a little bit of the incompetence of the White House (I can't help myself) and talk about a body fat percentage loss competition I'm in with a few friends. Then we get into the meat of the episode with two lovely ladies, Audrey Chugg and Brooke Woolf. We talk about funny dating stories that they have either perpetrated or experienced and then we get into all the nuances of dating as an older single as well as being in Utah and if Utah is any more unique than anywhere else. It's a fun conversation, I think y'all will enjoy it. And then I wrap it up with a scripture that commands us to identify ravenous wolves in the church and to make sure we eradicate them. Who could I be referring to?? Anyway, enjoy!

EP 101 - The Church Abuse Hotline Scandal
In this (special) episode I highlight my thoughts concerning the scandal around the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the victims that were harmed in the process. It's only slightly nuanced, but I wanted to share what I believe the main problems are.
EP 100!! - My Mom comes on to tell me why I'm not married, I did a Triathlon, etc.
On today's milestone of an episode I bring my mom back on the podcast to talk about why I'm not married, her thoughts on Daniel for her third Follow Him appearance later this year, thoughts on Julie Hanks and why she just doesn't get it among many other things. I start the episode off giving a recap of me doing a spur of the moment triathlon without any training and I close it out giving some thoughts circulating around my talk that I gave last Sunday in my ward. Enjoy!

EP 99 - What would you do if you had 6 months to live and couldn't tell anyone? And other hypotheticals w/Jake and Josh Cutler
On today's episode I get into the news of the week that includes the discontinuing of one of my favorite childhood treats growing up, a Jonathan Tavernari weight loss update and more. And then we get into more hypotheticals with the brothers Jake and Josh Cutler that include having to eat a hot tub full of peanut butter, crawling everywhere for six months to win a house in Chattanooga, Tennessee and saving the life of Abe Lincoln and much more. Then I close it out with a rant on the White House attempting to change the definition of recession and how we shouldn't let the government dictate how we feel about our own fate and how that relates to all the people in history who have elected to not be kings when given the opportunity. Enjoy!
EP 98 - Zach Wilson's Loves [BYU] Cougars. We have a name and a picture of the other woman...and Julie Hanks clapped back
On today’s episode John Boy comes back in the studio to talk all things Zach Wilson. We give a background of everything, we give an overview of the situation at hand and we dive deep into who the other woman is that is friend’s with Zach Wilson’s mom. Because I have her name and a screenshot of her facebook profile that she has since deleted. Once we wrap that up with a nice bow I go into a Julie Hanks update because she decided to clap back at me over the weekend. We had a beautiful exchange and we are now lifelong friends. She’ll be on my podcast for episode #100…not. It was not friendly, but it was fun. That’s for sure. She’s a gem. Enjoy!
EP 97 - Julie Hanks is Nehor, Conference Expansion Talk w/Casey Sato and Chase Bartholomew
In this episode I bring on recurring guests and avid U of U and BYU football fans, Casey Sato and Chase Bartholomew, respectively. We discuss expansion and talk about the hypotheticals going around, how this has forever changed the landscape of college football in a bad way and more. Then I close it out with my quick and dirty interaction with Julie Hanks over twitter and why she is basically a moder day Nehor. Enjoy!
EP 96 - Abortion...and Hair Transplants w/Dan Ostler
In this episode I talk about two things that go together like peanut butter and jelly...sorta. I can't help myself and feel the need to give my take on the overturning of Roe v. Wade as well as asking today's guest, Dan Ostler his thoughts on it. Then we get into his experience going to Turkey to get a hair transplant. And it's wildly entertaining. Dan is as interesting as they come and really easy to talk to. I love the way he detailed his experience and I know you all will find it interesting as well. Enjoy!
EP 95 - TikTok Star Almost Gets Canceled? w/Darby Maloney - The TikTok Star, My Mt. Whitney Experience and More
On today's episode I have the privilege of conversing with TikTok star, @durbinmalonster - who went especially viral for the wrong reasons...in a way.
