Hauling Off
By Erin and Mo
Hauling OffJul 25, 2022
#70: Culture Building, Part 2!
Round two of culture building…in which we go on about Latin, geography, reading drills and how the vision of the long haul makes the short term more palatable!
#69: Culture Building!
In which we discussed some random topics, and the nature of culture building. Are we all talking about the same thing? Ha!
#68: Sentimentality and Some Dogs Too
In which we discuss more dog breeds, this time Anatolian Shepherds and Border Collies, and the poison of sentimentalism!
#67: It's Not a Barbie World
The one in which we talk about name pronunciations, and rightly ordering priorities…until Aisha slips Erin a note about the meeting she failed to show up for, and then we stopped. 🤣
#66: Arguing Well
In which we talk about social standards for flourishing, arguing well about ideas (Momnibus, we are looking at you!), and Erin tries her hand at impromptu speaking in front of a bunch of secondary kids.
P.S. Sorry for the delay! Technical difficulties that have now been conquered.
#65: Faithful Transitions
In which we talked about Swedish Death Cleaning and the transitional seasons of life…and we made Kimmy join us again!
#64: Kim's Secret Instagram
Today’s Podcast: The one in which we confronted Kimmy about her secret Instagram account, and discussed the realities of pursuing a fruitful happy home.
You can find said account on Instagram - @fruitful.happy.home
#63: Raging Babies
We talked about parenting babies and what to do when they are raging, but on our way to this topic we wrapped up Advent and talked about being joyful while being pinched for others.
#62: Foggy Advent
A little more advent chat for you, just in the nick of time! Merry Christmas and enjoy!
#61: Contentment
We give a quick advent update at the beginning and then wander around about contentment! Enjoy!
P.S. Here's the gift wrap lady!
#60: Twitter Wars and Advent
We meant to talk about Advent, but spent a good chunk wandering around, mostly about Twitter wars...actually, I guess we are supposed to calling those X wars now, but that's dumb. Also, another Advent help came after we recorded! What Have You is doing a mini-podcast every day of Advent this year with all kinds of tips! Enjoy!
#59: Laughing
The alternate title of this podcast is "Millie Picks Corn", because it was a major distraction to Mo throughout the podcast. Millie is a DOG, guys. She kept going in and picking an ear of corn off a stalk and then taking it off to snack on.
But the actual topic is laughing when it isn't easy peasy. Enjoy! And laugh!
P.S. Mo apologizes for her really atrocious posting diligence. This is from August. Yikes.
#58: Hallie's Fault
Well...we actually recorded this (and the next episode) before our live recording at Titus 2. I think this is actually from May...let's just pretend that's not true. But it had been long enough that I could not remember a single thing about this episode, and Hallie offered to listen to it to find out for me. But she is her mother's daughter and was unable to sum anything up for me, so we are going to say it's her fault this doesn't have a title. Enjoy!
#57: Confrontation - LIVE at Titus 2!
Hauling Off hauled off at Titus 2, our church's ladies' group, and we had Jolie Hall as our guest. And it was fun! We talked about confrontation and the context our overall perspective on sin should give to our approach. Shockingly, our high tech audio set up (Mo's phone on a plastic stool), worked ok, so you should even be able to hear everyone. Enjoy!
#56: The Dad Episode
Well, let's see. As I post an episode, Spotify helpfully prompts me to answer, "What else do you want your audience to know?" Probably a lot of things. But we finally had our dads on the podcast, and unsurprisingly, one of them got away from us down some rabbit trails. If you like Dave Light (I know I do!), you will enjoy this. John Giddings did also get some good stuff in.
P.S. As I checked the recording to post it, I heard us talking about how we were recording this near Mother's Day, so we were really ahead of schedule with our Father's Day episode. It is now August 4th, and that's how it goes, lol.
#55: Fuji Apple
Kara Fujinaka joined us to talk about what it's like to marry your favorite soldier and immediately move across the country with him. Fair warning, due to allergies, Mo's voice makes her sound like a horrible hag. Sorry about that, and enjoy!
#54: Education Chat
We didn't want you guys to get too used to regular posting, so we recorded this one quite a while ago and saved it for this very moment. We talked about lots of stuff regarding education and ownership of that education. Enjoy!
#53: The Husband Episode, Vol. 2
We had our rad husbands back on to talk about coaching! Enjoy!
#52: Marriage is Everyone's Business
Continuing in our series, we talk about marriage! Also, Laird Marlatt pops in at the end as a bonus surprise guest star and invites you all to his business breakfast. Enjoy!
#51: Parenting is Everyone's Business
We talked about if parenting seminars are for everyone...and the title is a major spoiler regarding our position. Enjoy!
#50: Philosophy is Everyone's Business
Abigail van der Beken joined us again, hooray! She came to talk about education, philosophy and how big ideas are for everyone. And, here's the Mortimer Adler book we are talking about. Enjoy!
#49: Dabbler
We talked about experts and dabblers, professionals and amateurs, and some of the many ways this applies to life in Christian communities. Enjoy!
#48: Don't Be a Yente
Guys, four episodes in four(ish) weeks! Here we meander around in the how-to-find-a-spouse topic - we talk about if you should even be trying to find a spouse, matchmaking in both its good and bad forms, online dating, etc., etc. We made Erin nervous at one point, which then made Mo nervous, but probably we came back around to a balance of wisdom and...hauling off. Hopefully. Anyway, enjoy!
#47: A Lot of Interruptions
Well, guys, we recorded this on time, but then...life. Allow the title to warn you sufficiently - there are a LOT of interruptions in this one. Mostly we forgot to have a topic but did a lot on parenting. Enjoy!
#46: The Coaching Episode
We chat about coaching both as a thing and as a parenting and teaching metaphor. Or as an analogy? I can't remember. Maybe both! Enjoy!
#45: Free Range Chickens
We are back within a week!!!!! Enjoy some chatter about organizing books and free range children. Probably other things. Also, Mo realized the Hank picture didn't come through most podcatchers, so here it is just in case you missed it. Enjoy!
#44: I Don't Want to be Grabby, But...
People! We recorded an episode! AND WE POSTED IT!
Here is a nice Christmas fish skeleton for you to enjoy.
And, just for good measure, the Mission Impossible stunt video.
P.S. Here's Hank in case he didn't make it through your podcatcher.
#43: The Lost Episodes, Part 2
See Episode #42's notes.
#42: The Lost Episodes, Part 1
No idea. As I quickly checked the stellar audio quality, I did hear a joke at the end that we should name it "The Great Books Episode"...so maybe it's about books? I do know it was recorded in the new (well, at least at the time of recording), fancy Curriculum Room at the school, and the date of recording was September 6th, which means this is a new record for delay between recording and posting - 55 days! Go team!
#41: Dragon Training...and Stuff
For those of you who don't prefer our meandering, most of (all of?) this episode is to be avoided. We did try to talk a little about why the third "How to Train Your Dragon" is actually an excellent movie, but mostly Mo just mixed up all the character names and overall failed at the mission. Go find her somewhere if you want a better rant on the topic.
#40: Humility
We will let this episode title speak for itself. Enjoy!
#39: Emotional Control
We scratched the surface on emotional control, with a few interruptions along the way. There's still time to join Rachel's webinar on emotional control if you are interested! Just let Mo know that you want in. Enjoy!
#38: NOT About Beards
Well, we recorded this a couple of weeks ago and can't really remember what it's about. We did remember that beards were a suggested topic and that we rejected it. Maybe you can tell us what it was about! Enjoy!
#37: Popularity
We talked about popularity and lots of related pitfalls, sins and silliness. Also, Erin got a cute new shirt, so hopefully she is popular now! Enjoy!
P.S. ALSO. We recorded on Monday and posted only two days later!?!?! This may be a weird side benefit of Maymaggedon - being unsure of our survival, we post ASAP, lol.
#36: Unruly Headmaster
Jonathan Sarr, the illustrious Unruly Headmaster of our very own Evangel Classical School, joins us to talk about education. Other stuff too. Enjoy!
P.S. Just in case you aren't aware, Jonathan knows a thing or two about kettlebells. Here's some proof.
P.P.S. Fitness is a family thing for the Sarrs - look at Abbie pistol-squatting like not many four-year-olds can.
#35: Obedience
Kim Lugg joined us to talk lots of things related to kids and obedience. Enjoy!
#34: Rat Brain Smoothie
We aren't sure this episode has a topic...Mo skimmed through to jog her memory and came away without a topic but a very clear understanding that she shouldn't talk so much. It seems like we had some ranty rabbit trails mostly in the fields of science and education. Enjoy(?)!
P.S. Here's the Radiolab that Mo blathered on about.
#33: Something About Parenting
As our brilliant title suggests, we talked about parenting. We just can't remember what it was specifically. Enjoy!
#32: Road Noise
Erin and Mo bring you a special episode from the road! We visited Logos School in Moscow, Idaho on behalf of ECS and recorded on the way home, chatting about some of what we learned and appreciated from that visit. As the title says, road noise is featured heavily, for which we apologize. But as Sean pointed out, it's not like our audio quality is normally stellar. Enjoy!
#31: The Husband Episode
We had our much better halves on to talk about...a lot of things. And they/we did...so enjoy this double length episode!
#30: Friends are Drugs, Part 2
We came back around to explain our metaphor and were much less rabbit-traily than last time. But of course, much less is still a lot. Enjoy!
#29: Friends are Drugs
#28: Hospitality Club
"The first rule of Hospitality Club is...invite people to Hospitality Club." - Sean Higgins
We had Ginger Herr on to talk about all things hospitality and we had lots of fun! Enjoy!
#27: Crazy Jesus Lady
We had Sophie Pearson on to hear her testimony and to talk about hospitality in the situations God has providentially placed you in. Of course we also talked about a lot of other things. We also had another lightning round! Woohoo! Enjoy!
#26: Light Bat
We are back! Talking about all kinds of things, including New Years and cleaning, Edwin Friedman's theory of differentiation and a Lightning Round of Random! (Obviously the LRoR is way in our wheelhouse.) Also, we narrowly missed becoming a baseball podcast. You are welcome.
P.S. Here's Edgar Martinez and his light bat - quite entertaining.
P.P.S. Here's "Four Days in October" for any interested parties!
P.P.P.S. Whatever Mo said about The Natural had all the wrong details. SHOCKER. Spoiler alert! Here's a clip of the final home run.
#25: Merry Christmas!
With the Christmas roller coaster still careening the loop-de-loops, we talk about various sin traps during this time of year. Mo talks about the changing seasons of Christmas, with a newly married child, and Erin retells the Pakinas Christmas Tree saga of 2021. Merry Christmas to all, and BE JOLLY this Christmas!!
#24: Triangle Grab Bag
This is the podcast that neither of us can remember…like at all. So here’s your job: tell us why we named it “Triangle Grab Bag.” Enjoy!
#23: Friends are Friends Forever
"And friends are friends forever, if the Lord's the Lord of them" - remember these lyrics, guys? These are the only good ones. Skip the rest. Especially the part about the fertile soil of you. Enjoy!
#22: Teen Marriage
Chickenpox tried to stop us, but we have prevailed. Enjoy our super late episode featuring Mrs. Taylor Rothenberger!
#21: Enneawhat?
Abigail van der Beken joins us again, this time to unwrap the mysteries of the Enneagram personality...system? Religion? If you are already sick of personality talk, which we assume some of you are, get some Sea-bands before listening.
