Rest in the Pause

Over 40% of adult Americans don't get the recommended amount of sleep each night. Functioning on less than 7 hours of restful sleep each night is a contributing factor in chronic illness, overall fatigue and lack of resilience.

But is rest all about sleep? Many adults and children don't feel rested even when they get the prescribed amount of sleep each night.

This episode explores the importance of rest for your overall health and wellbeing. I invite you to experience pausing between activities during your day to take mindfully advantage of transition time rather than piing one activity upon another. I include a 4 minute guided "Pause" practice that you can use any time you transition from one activity to another. This trains your body to move into rest and digest mode throughout your day and helps to ward off hypervigilance which can leave us exhausted and vulnerable to chronic illness.

Fall is a special time of year where the trees shed their leaves and get ready for winter. We too as human beings are invited at this time of year to go through a shedding of our own, "leaves." Leaves are attached to the branches of trees and as humans we have so many attachments. Attachments to being perfect, to looking a certain way, to behaving as is expected of us, to being happy all the time, to thoughts that keep us stuck in harmful patterns, to material things and so much more. Tara and I invite you to use this Fall season to shed some of those leaves through the powerful practices of yoga, meditation, journal writing, and introspection.
